News from a few days ago - Rangers send Luis Sardinas, and RHPs Corey Knebel and Marcos Diplan to Milwaukee in return for Yovani Gallardo (http://espn.go.com/mlb/player/_/id/28650/yovani-gallardo).

http://espn.go.com/dallas/mlb/story/_/id/12195572/texas-rangers-trade-milwaukee-brewers-yovani-gallardo?ex_cid=espnapi_public

He should be a solid #3 behind Yu and Holland.

Looks like the seasons over for Darvish as he got a third opinion on his elbow. He is seeing
Dr James Andrews who is probably the best shoulder and arm doctor in the US and every
one is saying Tommy John. Once again a Japanese pitcher flames out with arm trouble.
The never use pitch counts in Japan and they have high miles on the arm from high school
to the pros.

Darvish officially out for the season and prolly a good chunk of next.

I'm really glad they didn't go the Profar "rest and relaxation" route with Darvish. Have the surgery now, get it out of the way, and come back mid-season in 2016.

Heard that he'll be shut down for 4-6 weeks, which means we won't have him for 2 months...

Rua is also headed to the DL, and Choo was pulled from yesterday's game with back spasms. F this shit.

I am deciding to get into MLB baseball. It's not the action of basketball I'm used to, but I've always enjoyed playing baseball so, I'll try it for a season and see what happens.

I've decided to be a Rangers fan... they're shown locally and I always thought the actual Texas Rangers of the old west days were pretty damn awesome.

Yeah, Im expecting as much. Last night's 14 inning game was ugly for the 12 i could catch. I actually enjoyed the whole idea of low pressure, though, personally. Ive been so amped up about the spurs for so long... also gives me something to watch between NBA and NFL.

Basically they are giving up nothing, and getting Josh for 5 mil a year for 3 yrars. Possibly cheaper.

Not a bad deal at all. If this goes through, then that means Detroit and the Angels are combining to pay $100 million of the Rangers players salary :lol

Robz4000

txstr1986
04-25-2015, 11:19 AM
Pretty much no risk for the Rangers - latest reports are that the Rangers might be paying less than $15 million of Hamilton's contract. I wasn't happy with how he left, but there's really nothing to dislike about this. If he sucks, we didn't lose anything, if he's decent, we got ourselves a productive OF for cheap.

Chris
04-25-2015, 07:34 PM
Yep 5m a year is a good deal Angels really want to wash their hands which is good for us imo

I don't get it. He started having substance problems at Texas before he went to the
LLA. He is suspended /or not playing right now for the same problem. Are the
Rangers now run by Jerry Jones? Ham is not worth the luggage he has with him.
Move on ...But as a Astro's / Red Sox fan , I think Josh will be a good fit for the Rangers ....Kind
of like Rondo was for the Mav's......

Chris
04-26-2015, 08:24 PM
nice win tbh where will Banister put Hamilton? Smolinki and DeShields have been pretty awful, but DeShields has only had a handful of AB's, and Peguero has been pretty average with a ton of strikeouts.

While I'm not predicting they will make the playoffs or anything, they literally had an absurdly bad slump to start the year, and everyone overreacted as if this team is going to barely win 50 games or something. It was hard to imagine that Choo/Andrus/Beltre and another 3-4 regular lineup hitters was going to keep hitting under .200 for an entire season. The starting pitching has actually been pretty solid overall, aside from Detweiler. The bullpen has been streaky, but I'd imagine that Feliz will get his stuff together quickly. Tolleson and Kela have been fantastic with the exception of one poor outing per person, which is normal. Pimentel has had some nice appearances too.

This team is much better than how they have started the season, with a winning % of .333. This should be around a .500 team if they remain relatively healthy, which is pretty solid considering they have lost Darvish, Holland, and Perez all to injury, and they are arguably their 3 best starting pitchers. I think there is a lot to like about this team, especially with all the youth they have that is developing, especially building up for next season.

Looking forward to adding some power to the lineup with Josh. They definitely could use it. I don't have massive expectations of him, but fact is, you really can't get too much worse than what Smolinski and Peguero have been offering (with the exception of these last two games from Peguero lol)

Rangers won big time in this trade. We have Cole Hamels for 3 years plus an optional 4th. We gave up Harry, and some prospects-Williams, Alfaro,Thompson,Asher, and Eickhoff. Plus Philly apparently ate a lot of Hamels contract and all of Harry's. A+ trade imo

Chris
07-30-2015, 12:36 AM
Rangers also got Diekman, a below average relief pitcher in his 4th year, but possibly could do well with a change of scenery. We gave up our 4th, 5th ,6th, 17th, and 29th best prospects, not THE best prospects but Rangers ranked prospects so its not like we sold the farm.

At some point though, don’t you actually need good players that can produce? I don’t have a dog in this fight but it doesn’t seem like they’re that far off from contending. Their two best pitchers haven’t even played this season and now they’ve added another ace. Basically next season they’re adding 2 aces and one pretty good #3 in 2016. That’s a huge difference.

Yu, Hamels, Holland, and a few quality options at 4-5 is a playoff rotation if they’re all healthy. Also, I don’t think they gave up any of the “can’t miss” prospects the Phillies were asking for. On top of that, Philly is paying some of his salary. Right now it looks like an even trade for both clubs.

In baseball it's really hard to sustain success unless you have a good farm system. Trading 6 guys a few top prospects in their system for a guy who is 31, who will likely be on the decline in a few years is dumb, and will lead them to where the Astros were with those 100 loss seasons once their farm is empty and their guys are hurt yet again.

Kefka1

You must be seeing something I'm not. From what I've read none of the guys they gave up have looked anything special this season or are expected to be stars. time will tell, though. Seems like the Phillies were thinking quantity over quality

And because the Rangers have a great farm system, they were able to make this trade without "mortgaging the future". They kept Mazara, Gallo, Brinson, ChiChi, Jackson, etc... One of the main benefits of having a deep farm system is that you can make trades like this.

LoL Rangers. Geez that was horrible.

Looking like it's gonna be a wildcard game loss in NYC. Oh well. No one expected the Rangers to even have a winning record.

After what the Rangers did in 2011, I expect nothing. The 2006 Mavs taught me that it's not over until it's over.

Hamels came through today, proud of this team. I can think of only a handful of games that I've missed or turned off this season, even after Darvish went down. Bannister has been terrific with the quick turnaround, and Jon Daniels made some great moves (per par) This team is dangerous, and a perfect dark horse to go to the World Series again imo. NL looks scary, but who knows what can happen?

Blue Jays are a beast at home. Sucks Hamels pitched today. Price will start game one for them. Hopefully the Rangers can get a split.

Toronto has an unbelievable offense, especially at home and they're starting pitching is very good. However their defense and bullpen is iffy.

Their ace is David Price, whose soul is owned by the Rangers. Dickey is also a playoff virgin so who knows how he'll handle playoff pressure.

People really sleeping on the Jays? They've been absolutely insane this year.

Are Texas fans annoyed at the awful start times? Who the hell schedules playoff games during work hours??

Nah, most Rangers' fans have a ton of respect for the Jays. 11:30 is weird for a playoff game, but these guys have been playing day games at noon all year, so no excuses there.

They were great in the RS, but now it's the playoffs and a lot of guys on the roster haven't even played in a playoff game, and some of those who have are notorious playoff chokers (Price). Not saying y'all shouldn't be the favorite, but a lot of that roster is unproven going up against a lot of vets in the Rangers.

I just find it odd that such a big game, or any playoff game would be during working hours although the regular season in the MLB does do that for sure.

That's fair, I don't follow much baseball to be honest and I worry about the Jays bullpen but should be an interesting playoff run hopefully.

A lot of Jays fans seem kinda nervous about the Rangers, were hoping for the Yankees instead.

Been saying for weeks I'd rather get the Jays than the Royals in the ALDS. Should be a great series; if the Jays get by the Rangers they should be battle tested enough to go into Kansas City and get the win they need to get to the WS.

Their starting pitching ended up being better than I thought (sans Price who still looks like a playoff choker), but let's not pretend the Rangers didn't have another meltdown for the ages.
