In all seriousness, the game result would've been the same either way. Deflated footballs don't make up a 38-point difference.

obviously. but that's not at issue. Sosa's cork bat got exposed on a groundout. its not like his cheating affected that specific play, tbh. but that's not what matters.

its not like they only deflated the balls afters securing a 38 point lead

Has yet tbd, but the NFL stated the penalty is a fine and loss of draft picks for this violation.

The Patriots will have already caused an NFL rule discussion about deception involving eligible receivers. They are geniuses at getting any advantage they can. It's thoroughly believable they would deflate balls.

Pretty soon each player will have to be body checked like in wrassln for weaponry, illegal fluids, etc... This is becoming amusing. I look forward to Bellycheck hobo prefacing each required interview droning on about no questions, concerning deflation.

Goddamn, it's fucking crazy. The media should go HARD on the patriots right now. The patriots cheating for over a decade and the league never doing shit, tbh. If the NFL doesn't want to lose legitimacy, they should honestly think hard about sending the Colts to the SB. This shit looks bad. :lol

I really don't think this was doing of the players. If they intentionally deflated balls to gain a competitive advantage, which it appears they did, it was likely the equipment manager's doing by direct orders of one or more of the coaches, likely the head coach. It would be beyond dumb to tell your players that you had done so, as they likely wouldn't have been able to tell a difference. Maaybe Brady, but that's it (although he laughed at the notion that they had done so when asked the question).

2-3 days before everything fully comes out on in regards to the situation from what I'm hearing. But on the surface, this doesn't look so good. Hopefully this doesn't overshadow the S.B. Absolutely. I could care less about the N.E organization and how it negatively affects their players. But our players don't need to be bothered with this, and even feed into this as it is only a distraction. They only need to be focused on the task at hand.

So they can notice a ball being underinflated by 2 ounces but they can't find a casino elevator tape?

I'm not sure how potential cheating, and domestic disputes are analogous. But, they both definitely have a negative image on the brand. There's a big difference between the legitimacy of the product, as opposed to the personal conduct of players off the field.

Anyways, I don't really have some sort of investment in the matter, I just hope it doesn't affect the Hawks as far as preparation and focus is concerned.

pounds per square inch (psi) is a unit of pressure not weight (lbs). Pretty disingenuous to report it as pounds since the average person will probably think of lbs and assume it was a bigger advantage than what it really was. If it had actually been two lbs of weight pretty sure the football would've looked noticeably deflated. :lol

2 psi really isn't much and pressure is dependent on temperature, so depending on the weather (didn't watch the game) that could be a reason for a drop in pressure.

Given the history of Spygate, this could spell 1 of 2 scenarios or a mix of either two:

Scenario 1) Pats get a 'financial' fine of $100 k or something like $1 million to 'hush up' fans which would be an insult. They go on to win the SB and all their fans say suck it, where the haters at :cry

Scenario 2) Pats get hammered hard, take away draft picks, stick all kinds of dicks up their franchises ass for the next 10 years. It distracts them and they lose the SB, thus the beginning of the end of their franchise.

Again, it could also be a mix of scenarios ie Pats win regardless of the punishment. But I like the drama that is a cookin' for the Cheatriots

whether it made a difference in that specific game is irrelevant to the fact that rules were broken. if a student cheats on a test and still gets a D, they will still get punished for cheating, even if it didnt impact their grade. if you are driving drunk, you get charged with that even if nobody was hurt

I have no idea if it's done inside the locker rooms or on the field but from my understanding they are checked prior to the game. Don't home teams provide the footballs for both teams? If not it could be that the Colts inflate theirs to a higher pressure (there is an acceptable range). Say the Patriots inflate theirs to the lower end of the range and the Colts to the highest...once the temperature/rain effects kick in the Patriots could fall unde the acceptable range but not the Colts.

Besides in the event that the weather isn't responsible the real question should be why did they pass the pre-game inspection?

Starting to doubt the accuracy of the '2 pounds' too. Did a quick google search and plenty of outlets are referring to it as lbs and claiming that refs were weighing footballs during the game to check them. :lol

I'm with FkLA. I think the balls were inflated to the lower end of the 'acceptable' spectrum and that when they were exposed to the cold weather they fell just below. Maybe one of the balls was kept close to a heat source or something on the sideline and never exposed to the cold like the others. I just don't see how underinflating all the balls except for one would be any sort of advantage. Something about this just doesn't feel right.

There is no doubt or debate, if not for deflated balls Tom Brady, Bill Belichick and the Pats ain't shit. If they had to play with ordinary balls they'd be lucky to go 2-14.

So if they beat the Seahawks in the SB it was all about under deflated balls. Obviously all their other SB wins....tainted.

You could take the Jags and if they played with under deflated balls....SUPERBOWL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The key to winning in the NFL....air pressure. Give Lagarrette Blount an ordinary ball, he's averaging 3.4 a carry.

Cam Newton's problem is he plays with ordinary balls.

"NFL Investigations" never move quick enough for him to get suspended for the Super Bowl. You will hear the cliché bullshit from PR: "we are still gathering all the facts, we are in the process of determining how severe the actions were, and who exactly is involved", blah blah blah.

But Belicheck could definitely be looking at the Sean Payton treatment and be suspended next season, and like you said, if that happens, I could see him ride into the sunset, especially if he is holding the Lombardi next Sunday night.

Andrew Luck will throw more INT's than half the QB's in the league and still look goofy.

The Raiders will still need a QB.

Darren McFadden will still be a pussy.

No rookie will make much of an instant impact on the offensive side of the ball.

Eli Manning will continue to suck.

Peyton Manning will start showing his age.

Aaron Rodgers will be better than ever.

We will hear about the "world class speed" of Sammy Watkins despite the fact he doesn't possess that kind of speed.

Michael Vick will end up the Eagles QB.

RGIII will end the season on the bench.

The Steelers will win their division. And do it with a stud running game/defense.

Brad Johnson paid for Super Bowl footballs to be doctored

As deflate-gate (http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/nfl-shutdown-corner/deflate-gate-report--11-of-patriots--12-game-footballs-were-under-inflated-043620937.html) reaches DEFCON 1 levels — refocusing on Bill Belichick, Tom Brady (http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/players/5228/) and the New England Patriots (http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/teams/nwe/) under the microscope — we are reminded of former Tampa Bay Buccaneers (http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/teams/tam/) quarterback Brad Johnson's admission he paid to have footballs doctored prior to Super Bowl XXXVII.
Tampa Bay Times reporter Rick Stroud recounted the story (http://www.tampabay.com/blogs/bucs/bucs-qb-johnson-paid-to-have-footballs-altered-before-sb-37/2214490) he originally published in 2012 (http://coulure.rssing.com/chan-1152381/all_p868.html), when the 2002 Bucs were honored during the 10th anniversary of their championship season. Johnson told Stroud he shelled out $7,500 to ensure "the balls were scuffed and ready" when the title game kicked off in San Diego.
"I paid some guys off to get the balls right," Johnson now admits. "I went and got all 100 footballs, and they took care of all of them."

How much did it cost Johnson? "Seventy-five hundred [dollars]," he said.

"They took care of them."

There are several important distinctions between Johnson's revelation and Chris Mortensen's ESPN report (http://espn.go.com/boston/story/_/id/12202450/nfl-says-new-england-patriots-had-inflated-footballs-afc-championship-game) that 11 of the 12 footballs used by the Patriots in Sunday's 45-7 AFC Championship win over the Colts were under-inflated. The two-time Pro Bowl QB makes no mention of inflating or deflating those 100 footballs, and teams are permitted to condition a dozen balls to their liking in games prior to the Super Bowl.
However, just as Aaron Rodgers prefers an over-inflated ball (http://deadspin.com/aaron-rodgers-likes-to-tamper-with-footballs-too-1680676328), Johnson's bribe of an NFL representative suggests quarterbacks are willing to go to extraordinary lengths to ensure a football meets their standards.

Oh so because PEDs are a problem, breaking other rules don't matter.

Again, someone please explain why the NFL let this out if it was not worrisome.

This was expected. No way the NFL would be stupid enough not to cover this angle.
And I am amazed at the idiocy of Pat fans not getting it.

They won, a crushing win, so to hell with any possible rules violation, it would not have changed the outcome. If anything, it shows the paranoia surrounding the Patriots. They did not need to do anything, yet the NFL has let the story lose.

Good question and I bet you see a new procedure.

NE have been masters at taking advantage of every possible situation. The NFL needs to give Bill B and associates a huge contract to work on ways to circumvent rules after they finish their tenures. Hire the hackers so to speak.

well part of the problem with that is pats have a rainman on their staff, no other team does, so even if other teams wanted to take things this far, like recording walkthroughs, using private radio frequencies, reviewing recorded footage at haltime (all things they've been rumored to do by former employees), it still wouldn't be as useful unless you have some savant who can understand that shit like very few others. that's what makes the pats so fascinating but troubling imo.
The deflated balls is probably for Brady and anyone else to avoid turnovers.

All of it is pussy-chickenshit business plan. Right down to their dependence on the hard count shit. They practice that gd protocol. And it's not to garner the 5 yard penalty. No, not at all. It's sole goal is to afford Brady to drop back in a (no lose situation). This way he can pass without risk, none, no risk. It's so pussy that it should turn the stomach of any decent man. Makes perfect sense that a man, BB, an organization that would condone this shit would foster an atmosphere where other corruption is produced:::secretly tapes his opponents final walk thru so there is no risk, there is no worry, or, rumination...now this ball cheat.

And all the shit this motherfucker and his organization have done that hasn't been revealed or ferreted out.

That hard count shit is disgusting. It's akin to that idiot in NC, Dean Smith running that 4 corner offense. It nearly ruined the game.

Christ, just take yearn & try and beat theren. If it don't work out, shut your fuckin' mouth and try again.
