Sign a good defender PG, one that doesn't only rely on his O but also in his D. 10 PPG and a good D would be OK imo.

That said, trade Enrique

point guard-led teams dun win championships. Pop and RC didnt plan to defend against that. They only planned to defend SFs as the rising stars were all SF-PFs.

Does Magic Johnson counts as point guard?

Is "Enrique" Tony? Cause he is currently fat. Better perfect his job shot

Manu was the deference maker. With enough slashers on the court, Bulls have no answer for him

Edit: Leonard played well. The front court was MIA

Depends on the situation. Spurs have defended Curry in the playoffs. But they also have not defended Lillard or WB for example.

I think Pop is still testing the waters.

I think props should be given to Tim Thibodeau. He like Carlisle know how to play the Spurs. let's hope Kerr doesn't know or we might be in 2 deeep

Danny? he got destroyed by rose

So you mean the Spurs have no defender who can always contain star PGs in each and every game? Which teams have such a player then?

you said Green and I pointed out Green got killed by Rose.

I only meant Green can defend some PGs but not all. it seems Green can defend smaller or slower PGs but not a strong fast PG

Well Green is about as good as you can dream having when it comes to PG-defenders. Of course he can't always stop all of them but there's no one who can.

I love Verde as much as the next guy and he is our backcourt defensive stopper, but penetrating PG's have always been the Achilles heel of the Spurs defense. Anthony Davis and Boogie Cousins do damage in the regular season but the Spurs destroyed the Grizz in the playoffs. Penetrating PG's from Ty Lawson, to Connely, to DRose all the way up to Damian and worst of all Monte and Westbrook gives the Spurs defense fits ALWAYS. They don't have an answer for it. TP has never been a defensive stopper but that isn't his role, Danny is the two way defender but he doesn't have the top end speed to stay in front of the upper echelon PG's. This is the golden age of PG's and there aren't more than 4 defensive players in the game that can check the best of them when they are being aggressive. The best defense is a shot blocking presence in the lane, good defensive principals and weathering the storm. This isn't just a Spur problem it is league wide.

Kawhi can do a decent job on most of them but against teams like OKC/Cleveland obviously he'll have to man Durant/Bron instead.

With that comes the risk that some unknown guy (like Snell) will go off on Enrique though. Inserting Cojo into the starting line-up would do wonders, he's somewhat of an overrated defender but atleast he's not a complete liability like Enrique. He won't ever be as good of a player as Enrique once was but he's a much better option than present day Enrique. At this point saying the Spurs would be a better team with Enrique as the 3rd PG shouldn't even be considered trolling--it's the reality unfortunately.

This. The team was clearly disengaged last night

Tim has gotten slow, giving up way too many uncontested layups. Tiago isn't much faster.

Spurs' interior defense was always the surefire backup for the perim defense.

Duncan's D was terrible. he looked old

Splitter took the night off and Diaw was more worried about posting up than doing anything else.

Baynes tried to play but the refs didn't let him.

complete off game

pretty much. Duncan's D was worse than any other spur. yes including Parker last night.

Their problem is Parker, always has been. This year he's ranked 460 out of 463 when it comes to DRPM, defensive real plus minus.

That's out of all the players/positions in the NBA.

The Spurs have a very solid defensive core, they're just missing 1 more defender, Parker drags them down a lot. He's always been killed in the playoffs by opposing PG's.

Rose made a bunch of terrible shots..he has terrible all year, you live with him making those shots, tbh..

The past 2 Finals runs, the Spurs have went through Lillard, Westbrook, Curry, Conley, Ellis, etc and it didn't affect their playoff hopes..even the guys that had "good" series' against the Spurs(Westbrook, Ellis) were actually pretty inefficient, further demonstrating how teams can live with PGs trying to beat them at any cost..

At the moment, Duncan's defense is horrendous, and it has been for a few weeks, after having a DPOY-level start to the season..it's evident that the minutes have worn him down..

Overall, the Spurs have been one of the 3 best defensive teams in the NBA the past 3 seasons, it's not really a problem for this team..

Those two are great guards. No one is going to stop them, but we have several guys who can limit them...just not every game.

People can talk all they want about this being a golden era of PGs, but as each year passes and none of those elites ring, it really doesn't matter.

It's on the big guys to stop guys at the hoop. And Rose was killing us from the outside more than anything. I bet he's not able to replicate it.

Yeah I agree 100% with your post on the point guards. You can also ad Conley to the list as all the above plus Conley had season high totals against us. Our point guard D is killing us. Time to go get one who can come in and play some D.
