View Full Version : About to drop some $ on a new car

So i've made up my mind that I'm spending some $ on a good car in the next 3 months .. but not 100% sure what to get. The options, in my preferential order atm;

1. Nissan GTR
2. Merc C63 AMG
3. Audi RS5 (problem is my bro has one :lol)
4. Chevrolet Camaro

Ive taken the GTR for a couple of test runs.. and its fucking incredible.. like literally take your breath away power and speed.
Have not taken the C63 for a run.
My bro owns an RS5 and while its a awesome car in terms of technology.. beautiful V8 rumble.. all wheel drive.. it just doesn't leave your brain scrambled like the GTR.
Haven't taken the Camaro for a run either.

Interested to here your thoughts/opinions.. doesn't matter if you don't own one or haven't driven them.. just want to know what y'all think and what you would get... ps i live in Australia.

not sure how much corvettes cost there in relation to the others. also, unless its a Transformer, not sure why a Camaro is on the list with those other cards

Just really think about it before you drop the cash on it. Unless you have the cash to pay for the car, you can't afford it if you are going to finance. Those cars are really all around the board too. I'm a big fan of the GT-R and can afford one but wouldn't get one. The newness of the car wears off after a while and you get used to the power. If you are going to get something get it used, theres really no point in getting something new just to tell yourself, "No one else has driven it". C63 is fast but a little boring and small, RS5 is meh, not a huge audi fan, and Camaro is all over the place here and doesn't really handle that great. Unless you are looking at a ZL1 or new Z28 Camaro. Whats your budget? And what do you want out of the car, just speed, handling, looks? I bought a M3 last year and regretted buying it almost the next day, eventually sold it 6 months later. I was always worried about it getting messed up or something breaking on it. You also gotta remember the maintenance and upkeep on some of the cars.

there's a nice stretch of highway between where i live and the city where everyone goes 80+. It's usually chumps in mustangs/camaros/chargers/etc that clog up the fast lane. they're too scurred to work that V8 (if they even have one. posers will have the V6 :lol). even so, no point in owning one these days since they usually don't come in manual. i mean hell i'd get one if they did so i could drop a gear, rev up those rpms and slingshot that shit.

point is if you want to get a sport car or muscle car might as well get the most fun out of it because any regular auto these days will do the job just fine, be reliable, and get 30+mpg.

and if you're getting one to get pussy...well then you're just a fucking tool.

I've never driven the GTR, but I hear it's pretty hardcore. I think I'd prefer a more everyday type driving car like the RS5.

It depends on which Camaro. I remember reading an article that they had to redesign the wheels and tires from standard, because the car had so much torque and the tires so much traction, they kept spinning the wheels inside the tires. Camaros came with different packages from a low budget six cylinder, to hundreds of HP V8 power. My first Camaro was the 2002 Z28. My first Trans-Am was a 1977. Great cars.

They should have made you work for your first car. My first was a 1970 Charger, I paid $600 for. That's a lot of saving money making only $3.50/hr, part time in High School. At least I was making more than minimum wage. Minimum wage was something like $2.15/hr.

It's a typical straight line muscle car. GT-R and RS5 are high tech track day cars that can still be driven everyday.

Two Camaros can cost $100k+

The ZL1 MSRP is $55,505.
The Z28 MSRP is $72,305.

It's the bottom of the line V6 that is at $23,705 MSRP. That's a girl's car.

Love the look of the R5. Understated for it's price yet undeniably sexy.

You're really looking at 3 different classes of cars. The GTR is a performance demon. The Merc and Audi are sport/luxury cars that do both well. The Camaro is a sporty car with a subpar interior but obviously much cheaper.

I would drive the first 3 and see which I thought I'd want to drive every day for the next 15 years.

In Australia the GTR starts at 180k and the R8 above 220k I'm pretty sure.. we pay through the nose in tax for luxury car's.. if you try bring one in from overseas you still need to pay the tax.

Cant believe you guys can get a GTR for 100k :lol

How much do you make a year to be able to drop 180k on a car? Holy shit Greece is poor.

180-200k ..About the same as the GTR costs in Australia ...basically my limit on a car has always been maximum one years salary :lol.. Ie I wouldn't spend on a car more than what I earn in a year..it's all relative I guess.. but without sounding like a dick that's definitely not the average salary in Australia or anything ...although we do tend to suffer from inflationary effects more than other countries it seems .. we seem to earn more than most countries but everything is fucking expensive.. it has slowed a little in the last couple of years.

That brings me to my next question.. what's everyone's limit on what they would spend on a car relative to their yearly salary?

hater
01-28-2015, 08:27 PM
:lol holy shit never heard of such limit. My cartel advisors tell my workers to not spend over 30% on their cars. It's nuts to spend more tbqh.

I bought a brand new Jeep for my brother and the damn police pushed it off a cliff with my lil brother in it the same day :pctoss goes to show shit can happen anytime

That said I would tell my berracos not spend more than 40% salary on a car unless they have a 4 inch limp cock and need it for the perritas tbqh

It really depends. If your job is stable, you're single and have no other major commitments, and/or have a wad of cash saved, it could be fine.

Right now I'm looking at a new GTI or Fiesta ST and it either be around 30% of my salary. But my car is doing fine for now and gets 38mpg so it's hard to justify upgrading.

Same. I love driving but not to and from work where there is no room to let my car stretch it's legs. A new car would have super limited enjoyment in that case. Short of sitting in a lambo or GTR in traffic would be very enjoyable. I don't really have much time for recreational driving, so it's a purchase that probably won't be made until 3-4 years down the road (pardon the expression). I'm planning a few trips over the next couple of years, and that's definitely something I'd rather throw down cash for.

Out of the 4 cars you posted my choice is the AMG. The Merc has great power and handling along with
a good ride for the long highways the have in the bush. The resale value is very good for the AMG. I
love the Nissan but do they have ride adjustments settings for like track and street. Driving a go kart is
fun for around town but long trips not so much.......

Things are a bit inflated in Australia both in terms of salaries and cost of living especially imported cars.. 180k here is probably the equivalent of about 100-120k in the US.

Like Bene said sub 3.. Nissan say 2.7 secs but think fastest any tester has got it was 2.9 or so.. The launch control is insane .. you put the adjustable performance settings (transmission, suspension and traction) all in R mode .. One foot on the brake and one on the pedal flat to the metal hold for a few seconds and let go f the brake and it feels like your guts are gonna come out of your mouth .. You actually lose a bit of feeling from the waist down for a moment :lol.. It's even better around corners .
