That Ghostbusters thread made me think about the comedy actors from the 80's. Maybe it was because there were soooo many good comedy's. But some of these guys could take shitty movies and turn them into something watchable. Is there any other decade that can compare to...

Bill Murray
Dan Aykroyd
John Belushi
Steve Martin
Eddie Murphy
Chevy Chase
Robin Williams
Tom Hanks
John Candy
Richard Pryor
Rick Moranis
Leslie Nielsen
John Cusack

Can't have a list of '80s comic actors without Michael Keaton, imo.

Can't put Richard Pryor on the list unless you add Gene Wilder...fucking hilarious together.

John Clease

I thought about him but he didn't seem to fit in as far as making many comedy movies in the 80's.

Yeah...that's true too. I originally was going to stop after 5 or 6 but then kept adding one more. Wilder wouldn't be out of place except that he's maybe the only one that didn't lead in a movie (that I can remember).

He didn't make a whole monster amount of funny movies in the time, but he did make some of the more quality ones. Also, if you're a TV nerd like me, his BBC shows were pretty hilarious. Your list is solid...so it can go in a bunch of different ways.

Don't get me wrong...I loved his work. All the Monty Python stuff. Fish Called Wanda. Time Bandits was awesome.

My original list was getting out of hand wack anyway. I was just thinking of Murray, Aykroyd, Belushi, Murphy, Chase, and Martin. Which I guess it all SNL.

Can't knock it. It was the pinnacle and demise of the American comedy film. Sure the 90's had its moments but the 80's had the likes of those you mentioned and the John Hughes' Brat Pack and that's where you had John Cusack, Molly Ringwald, Matthew Broderick, and the like.

LOL. I almost started a thread last week. RIP Taylor Negron.
He had a decent stand up routine. He was played a decent bad guy in Last Boy Scout.

I had this exact conversation with my brother a week ago, how the 80s (and really starting with the 70s) were a golden age of comedy. I just can't think of too many comedy classics from the 50s and 60s. Maybe bob hope or jerry Lewis, and those guys had their moments. But starting in the 70s and through the 80s, you have prime Mel Brooks, Woody Allen, Zucker Brothers, Monty Python, all the SNL and SCtv guys mentioned above, Lampoon types like John Hughes, etc....

Not sure why comedies haven't been as good, could be the rise of the phony PC culture, because you couldn't even make a Blazing Saddles nowadays. Maybe the 4 quad filmmaking shit.

damn I didn't know Taylor negron died. RIP. That guy was a trip in movies, especially last Boy Scout. "Push this vile fuck off the road man!"

Cosby was never funny on TV. Interesting, but not funny. He was funny on stage though. One of the few people, along with Richard, who could make you laugh without opening his mouth, just by staring at the crowd. Richard was the funniest person who ever lived.
