View Full Version : Lakers: Kobe's 81-point game..

Regardless of opponent, 81 points on 46 shot attempts is unreal, tbh..

Do you guys think this performance receives the proper respect and appreciation that it merits? Scoring 81 points against NBA competition is outrageous..

Think about the hype that Klay Thompson just received, followed by the praise that Irving was showered with last night..their scoring outputs pale in comparison to 81 fucking points:wow..

As of November 16, 2014, Bryant has played 134 games in which he has scored forty or more points; of these, 5 were sixty-plus point games and 26 were fifty-plus point games.

his 67 point game was much nicer. That was one of the greatest scoring performances I have ever seen

True, and outscoring the Mavs(an elite team) in 3 quarters was the stuff of legends..

I don't know how anybody can deny is spot in the top 10, tbh..

81 points on 46 shots is efficient imo. He shot 60% from the field

Granted that it's appalling that he needed to take 46 shots but they were dead if he didn't do that.

hey lol if it makes you feel better about taking the time for that ace Huffington Post blog content I immediately ignored under the assumption it was the equivalent of an old man fart, then sure I read absolutely every word Mr. angry living example of nostalgia bias. I wish you'd at least remember the millennial cliche of us having super short attention spans tho and not just selectively be the neighbor from Dennis the Menace, because if you actually think I read that then lmao. If you wanted millennial readers you needed to keep it tweet-length (TRITE MILLENNIAL BURN!!! turns out I can be you better than you, actually).
then again for a guy with over THREE THOUSAND POSTS (lmFao) I doubt you really care if anyone's reading them anymore. you could actually be Bill Simmons IRL, in which case who cares if a DANG ENTITLED WHIPPERSNAPPER like me reads what you have to say anyway. I mean I don't really need to read it anyway, let me just summarize: "DANG X/Y THESE DAYS ISN'T ANYWHERE AS GOOD AS IT USED TO BE!!!111".
damn never heard THAT hot take before! Do you also have some totally profound thoughts on music these days? :lol:lol MILEY CYRUS JUSTIN BIEBER INSTAGRAM TWITTER MILLENIALS FART FART FART FART LEMME TELL YOU WHAT I THINK ABOUT HIP HOP THESE DAYS FART FART FART FART

(p.p.p.s. it's all love, person who will definitely be dead long before I am, I will keep your spirit alive by shouting at 18 year olds in 2045 and telling them basketball in 2014 was way way way better than this cybernetic pussified bullshit!!!!!)

What's up with your anger and emotions lately, tbh?

You been hanging out with Brazil? :lol..damn, a lot of salty discharge..

it's stupid though, if you're pointing out that it's totally different because basketball changed as a sport with the institution of the three point line then doesn't the road run both ways? Your record is no longer applicable to the sport we play today? So your record is what, fucking ETERNAL now if any of those points higher than your total come from the three point line? Dudes gotta play like it's 1978?
I love the Iceman but I'm always not-down with old basketball players bitching and moaning about contemporary trends and players (it's getting even fucking worse with dudes from the 90s or dudes STILL in the league like Kobe, back in my day blahblahblahblah grit heart DANG THESE STATS!!!) and I'm not really changing that opinion because he happens to be a Spur. Retired players unable to play anymore, stuck in the past, just grasping at whatever they can in the present, often diminishing the achievements of contemporary players, whatever dude stop shouting at me to get off your lawn.
You better believe this just makes him look like a petty hater to all the non-Spurs NBA fans unless they're specialized fetishizers of the past or fucking Bill Simmons. :rolleyes Like sorry dude, I'm pretty sure most of those glorious classic Celtics teams would look like old men on the court in today's NBA. :lol
And before you start ranting about monkeyball vs. b-ball IQ and all that bullshit, we wouldn't be anywhere in this current era without Kawhi Leonard's athleticism and physical abilities so you can stick that racist Eurotrash bullshit right back up your ass (UUUHHH YOU'RE RUNNING FASTER AND JUMPING HIGHER IN THIS SPORT OF BASKETBALL, HOW DARE YOU FILTHY AMERICANS!!!!! WHAT WE ARE BAD AT IS CLEARLY CHEAP AND DUMB!!!!). Except for a set number of old legends (including admittedly dudes like the Iceman, and obviously Wilt was enough of a unique specimen to own the top athletes of today's age) a lot of those dudes would get totally owned by today's athletes.

Retired athletes just need to be able to nod, smile, and go, "Not bad young fella". Keep that petty "BUT WAIT A MINUTE!!!!!" shit to yourself dude. There's a reason it's funny. There's a reason everyone laughs.

PPG is a weak stat, as I've been saying for years..you can throw it in as an add-on, that's fine, but like assists and rebounds, it should just be a throw-in, peripheral stat, not your main argument(really easy to poke holes in it)..

RAPM is a good stat to evaluate individual performance, which you can't find anywhere on the internet unless you still use Lotus-123 on a 2400 baud modem with Compuserve service, so my argument wins by default.

Meh, Kobe scored 63 points in 3 quarters against an elite Mavericks team a few games before that. Dipshit Phil Jackson decided to take him out of that game. He was well on course to score 75-80+ points on that team. I remember being extremely upset at KFC man for taking Kobe out that game.

It is underrated by haters, but Players true hoop heads give it it's due ...game recognize game. Kobe disciples overrate it. The tao of pass first crowd probably underrate it too even if they dont hate Kobe.

People here were shitting on Kyrie's game the other night ...some Spur fans act like you never try to score over 30 points a game.

True, and outscoring the Mavs(an elite team) in 3 quarters was the stuff of legends..

I don't know how anybody can deny is spot in the top 10, tbh..

a) Players are ranked based on entire careers, not 3 quarters, one or two games
b) Nobody will ever rank Klay, Gervin or Anthony top 10 because of one quarter
c) No advanced stats will support Kobe in the top 10
d) Those 81 points was done during an "antiquated" league where iso play was the norm, and sophisticated defensive sets were not the norm. The championship team run iso plays for Dirk and Howard non-stop, the runner ups run iso plays for Wade relying on FTs all year, the defending champs were all 4-down with iso plays for Manu sprinkled in.
e) That Raptors team had a defensive rating of 112.7, which is worse than every single no-defense playing team in the 1986 AND 1987 season, only 0.2 better than the worst team in 1988, and 03 better than the worst team in 1985.
f) Charles Oakley once grabbed 35 rebounds in a game, nobody will ever rank Oakley as a top 10 of all time talent.
g) Bill Russell owns 3 of the top 5 rebounding games in NBA history. I don't know how anyone can deny his spot in the top 10, tbh
h) It's apparent that your sudden 180 turn on Lebron is causing you to overrate Kobe so that you can push Lebron out of the top 10, but too bad, there is a whole list of players who are better than Kobe. And if you use advanced stats, which is what you have been pushing for a while now, Kobe would have trouble cracking the top 20.

I have the 81 and 67 point performance saved on my computer..The best scoring performance in the history of the NBA is the 81 and second to that is the 67..

And he did it against modern players and not some 6'3 white guy playing center.

If some playoff scrub like Butler or thompson did it, it's a different story but we're talking about a 5 time NBA champion here.

Mr Bones

.

The starting center for the Knicks in Chamberlain's 100 point game was 6'10"... the same height as Matt Bonner, who started at center for Toronto in Kobe's 81 point game.
