In light of recent reports regarding the status of UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo, UFC has received official medical confirmation from several doctors that Aldo did not suffer a broken rib. Following a review of the scans, it has been determined that the champion suffered a bone bruise to his rib and cartilage injury during training.

With this news, Aldo has expressed that he has every intention of facing Conor McGregor at UFC 189.

While Aldo has indicated that he will compete in Las Vegas on July 11, UFC has confirmed a contingency plan. No.1 featherweight contender Chad Mendes will face McGregor for the interim UFC featherweight championship in the event Aldo cannot compete.

UFC remains committed to delivering the featherweight and the welterweight championship fights at UFC 189 during UFC International Fight Week in Las Vegas.

First of all, I absolutly love this card - Mendes, McGregor, and MacDonald are three of my favorite fighters in the UFC

Chad Mendes v. Conor McGregor - I love both fighters, and honestly have no clue how this fight will go, but I gotta pick someone...

Robbie Lawler v. Rory MacDonald - this is all Rory. He's going to get revenge for their last fight and become the new GSP.

Dennis Bermudez v. Jeremy Stephens - close fight, but I think that Bermudez's wrestling takes this

Gunner Nelson vs. Brandon Thatch - Thatch is too big and too strong for Nelson. Also, dude is violent as hell.

Brad Pickett v. Thomas Almeida - too easy

Matt Brown v. Tim Means - toss-up fight, but it's hard to pick against the Immortal

Rory had him hurt badly. I honestly thought it was over. Lawler comes back and breaks his nose I the 5th and Rory just grabs his face and drops to the mat. One of the greatest displays of fighting heart I've ever seen. It was like some shit out of a Rocky movie.

This had to be one of the greatest cards ever. It felt like after every fight my buddies and I were asking each other, "was that fight of the night?", and then the next one would be even better.

Sucks for Rory, I'm a big fan of his, but Robbie earned a lot of my respect last night.

Conor silenced a lot of doubters last night, but I wish Chad could've survived the round - he only had 3 seconds to go. It would've been cool to see at least another round.

Also, Bermudez v. Stephens anyone? That fight was absolutely nuts.

Well the fight didn't go the way of Pettis/Guida in terms of the final result but it possibly could finally jolt the realization that Connor needs to work on his wresting and become an even better all around fighter.

Mcgregor looked really good, I still don't see him beating Aldo though. Aldo is just a different beast. Would like to see Mcgregor/Frankie if Aldo cant be back soon. Would be a great fight for UFC, Frankie is pretty much the real life rocky.
