Marks' deal is believed to be for the veterans' minimum, in his case just under $1 million. It will bring to 13 the number of Spurs under contract, putting them at the NBA-mandated minimum. They retain the right to match any offer sheet restricted free agent Devin Brown — yet another shooting guard — might receive from another team.

Popovich has no worries that Marks, one of the most popular Spurs among his teammates, might pout about his role this season.

Freakin awesome. I love Sean. Even if he doesn't bring anything to the court, everybody on the team seems to absolutely love the guy and he really seems to unify the locker room. Honestly, for as little as he has done for this team in gametime, I would've been really upset if he had left.

And I had been expecting it to happen, so this comes as quite a pleasant surprise. Welcome back, Kiwi! :king

Damnit... I had high hopes that the #4 jersey would actually be worn by a good player next season.

What will Finley wear now?

OMG Make Marks change his jersey number!

Finley can ask for the number, and I'm sure Sean will hve no probably giving it up.

With how deep this team is, I'm not even sure they'll bother giving Marks a number.

Good news. I agree Sean may not always be crucial on the court, but he does bring a spark, goes all out and obviously loves being on the team. Welcome back, kiwi!

I would expect the Spurs to bring in 1 or 2 more guys (swingmen). The new CBA stipulates that the league guarantees that, on a league-wide basis, teams will maintain an average roster size of 14 players over the course of the season. That includes NBADL players listed as Inactive. There is a maximum of 3 inactive players, or 15 total players on each NBA team's roster.

The Spurs may want to have someone like Melvin Sanders playing as one of it's IR NBADL players.

Aren't we pretty full up with centers? I don't understand this at all. Do we pay a guy a million dollars to be the team mascot that everybody loves?

Or is there someone who justs wants him around a la Jack Haley?

You like to go into training camp with 3-deep, if possible. Three full teams. The Spurs don't always keep 15, but they frequently keep it close to that.

This leaves a 2-guard and SF remaining...or if you keep 14, just one G-F.

Do we pay a guy a million dollars to be the team mascot that everybody loves? We actually pay him about half that -- the league picks up the rest.

He knows the system and is a great practice player.

It's a group of 6 bigs like last year.

I guess the Euro teams didn't make much of an offer.

That's what I was thinking. Supposedly Euro teams were going to offer him big money. I wonder if they did and he turned it down ... or whether those offers just never came.

I thought Marks did well last season when he got PT. You can't ask for more out of your 14th man.

Gives us another big who already knows the system. Already fits in with the team. The more guys you have the same, the easier it is for the new guys to transition in. This is awesome. Also gives us insurance in case of injuries or struggles.

Or is there someone who justs wants him around a la Jack Haley?

Kind of like...everybody?

Supposedly Marks is one of the most liked guys on the Spurs roster.

Timmy loves the guy, so does Bruce...and I read that Manu has been reported as saying that Marks is one of his best friends on the team.

If you can recall one of the most memorable pictures from right after the Spurs clinched the championship, Marks was like the first guy Manu ran to, for a celebratory piggy back ride.

With a roster already as stacked as ours, you can afford to sacrifice one dead slot for a guy who is going to keep people happy and unify a locker room. We still have two spots left for developing players if we want to use them.

That's cool, it can't hurt having likeable guys in the locker room. Sean impressed me in the Olympics, and whilst I know it's a different ball game, he has some nice attributes for a deep bench guy.

I was watching WOAI news at ten tonight and it looked as if Finley's Spurs jersey had the number 4 on it. I only caught a quick glance.

Does anyone know if I am right and if so, what Sean's new number will be?

Marks is Rasho's replacement when rasho gets traded? and I bet Raso gets traded by Christmas. We need his $ to keep Nazr. I really think Barry is a keeper, and won't be traded.
