I'm always a cynic to "donations" like this. If it was out of the good of your heart, why name the business? Just deliver the pizzas.

100K pizzas is a cheap price to pay for the type of publicity Papa John's is getting.

Did PJ's name themselves or were they named by the media coverage?

Yeah. Big difference.

I'm sure the media just covered it when PJ pizzas arrived.

If the media says

"Papa Johns has donated"

Does that mean they are advertising themselves?

Should they be donating the food in plain boxes and plain clothes??

I agree though with the companies that make these donations, they try to do it for publicity purposes..

well I'm sure it was hard to miss all the PJ delivery cars adn trucks showing up at the Astrodome.......even if they didn't announce it (which i don;t know either way) it was gonna get out what company was responsible.

The media named it....and it would have been easy to determine anyhow, as I'm sure they'd all came in Papa John boxes. Unless they were supposed to go buy a bunch of plain, non-descript ones?

Whether naive or not, I just like to think that people do things out of their goodness of their heart and leave it at that. It's not worth another thought...other than a whole 'lot of hungry people got something to eat.

Papa John's is my favorite anyway....and now you can even pay online. I like Pizza Hut too, but their internet capabilities have not extended to letting me order online yet. :lol

Well people, whether they did it for publicity or not, they did it. So major props to them. I'm sure the people receiving the pizzas don't give a hoot what the reasons were.

Yeah, but you can't order anything Deep Dish or extra on any of the specials without calling anyway.

I was laughing the last time I ordered it...I told User..."Damn...I actually had to call it in. That was weird, I almost forgot what I was supposed to say..."

:oops :lol

And I'm sure they didn't give a shit if PJ's were doing it for advertising, either. What's your point?

I don't care how they look at it...as long as they aren't hungry anymore.

Props, either way. It's probably a little bit of cheap advertising mixed with good hearted people trying to make a difference.

At least the people are getting food now. Can't complain about that, especially seeing how those still in NO are being treated.

I guess you don't like it when they announce stuff like:

$17mil from Wal-Mart
100,000 from HEB
Nissan donating vehicles

and so forth.

I don't think it is a problem whatsoever. It is just the networks announcing donastions with nothing premeditated like you suggest.

I'm a pretty cynical guy, but 100,000 pizzas, 100 jobs for people who have nothing, and putting your employees to work in the name of charity is pretty remarkable to me. If you give the people of New Orleans a bunch of pizzas with no name of course they'll be glad as hell after what they've been through, but to give them a brand that they pay good money for at home has to be nicer. To have that brand name and know they're getting quality has to be good for something. That brand name tells people that.

100,000 pizzas is $1 million if they could have sold those. This is no drop in the bucket or small-time thing to get your name on tv... 100,000 pizzas is a hell of a commitment from a company that could have gotten the same airtime for delivering 5,000 of them.

Besides, I haven't seen a Papa Johns commercial where they're self-fellating over their donation.
