Ibaka and the Three

Should Ibaka be shooting 5 3's a game? Ever? Dirk is a much better 3pt shooter and I remember when Dirk used to fire from downtown all the time. When he stopped doing that and went inside for short fadeaway patented jumpers (unstoppable), he was a beast. Ibaka is a decent shooter, borderline good. Why is he drifting out to the 3 just because he can hit one now and then? Is he trying to be like Bonner, pulling other bigs out of the paint? Who respects his 3pt shot? I'd have his ass 18' and under.

A big part of the reason why his game is so perimeter oriented is because of the constant high pick and roll offense the Thunder run. The lane needs to be open for a Durant or a Westbrook to be able to drive without worrying about an extra big coming for the help D. Keeping Ibaka at the corner 3 makes the defense stay honest. Not to mention a 2 is worth more than a 3.

I actually believe that Ibaka knows that he's also limited in his post game, and prefers to conserve his energy on the defensive end. Being able to hit the standing midrange/3 makes him a threat on offense.

I do agree that he shouldn't be taking so many 3's/jumpshots. It seems that if those perimeter shots aren't dropping then he's a non-factor offensively.

Serge has been hitting close to 40% of them this year though, so i dont think its a huge problem. he should be more active going towards the basket though. his athleticism isn't being used on offense

As I said in another thread. I don't see the problem with Serge taking 3s when he's the team's best 3 point shooter. Besides it's not like the Thunder have tons of shooters on their team. Most of their guards can't even make 30% of their 3s.

It's a give-a-way (mental) when he does it as part & parcel to his team's strategy. OKC is allowing themselves to be seduced by this tact. Complicit in their own destruction. Get under the fuckin' cylinder---both ends---.
