LOL at this in particular. I haven't' heard either the Beck or Beyonce album. But I would bet that Beck probably made a record that he wrote, played on, and arranged himself and probably had a hand in engineering. And I would bet that Beyonce had a team of writers, musicians, and engineers to put out an overproduced CD.

Beck's probably cost a few hundred thousand at most to put together. Beyonce's a couple million.

Of course, Kayne's definition of great art also probably includes the Transformer series.

I was going to check it out last night but after reading the reviews, I gave Sea Change a listen instead which was pretty cool. I still like his more upbeat stuff...Guero.

I listened to that Beck album more than anything else this year (close second was the latest War On Drugs record). The Grammys actually got it right for once imo. I am shocked really. I know everybody loves Kanye, but I don't get it... I've tried, but outside of a few tracks, I think his music is bullshit. Beyonce too. I don't know why anyone would think that her album is anywhere near as good as Beck's. It's preposterous.

never got into Sea CHange, except for Sunday Sun which is one of my favorites. But when SeaChange came out, my old roommate and I used to get into arguments about it :lol, i sort of hated how the media was like "this is Beck's post-breakup super serious effort". I didn't get into Mutations either which has a similar vibe. like you, i haven't heard some of his recent stuff.
I really like Guero a lot and Midnight Vultures will never get old, an ATF for me.
