I still don't expect a trade by any stretch of the imagination but just read this little bit about Kanter:

http://www.sltrib.com/sports/2170975-155/utah-jazz-frustrated-enes-katner-said

He's better than some of the old farts some of you have been mentioning out there but yeah, he's no defensive-wizard. He can rebound a bit and shoot and he's miles better than Boner and Errors. Wonder where he'll end up. Probably the Paper Clips with Griffin out a while.

not going to happen...

he'll probably be resigned next year and be used as trade chips...

If Kanter could play a lick of defense, he'd be a good fit for us, but he can't, so he isn't.

It would be great if some three-team trade involving the Spurs, we can trade Kawhi for picks and the 3rd team would get Kanter. :tu

Yeah, but your franchise is always active in terms of trades, whether the player fits or not.

LOL, Boner's D makes his D look like Duncan's. Again, I'm not clamoring for the guy but he's better than the geriatrics that have bandied about here lately.

Lol nope.

Anyways, I'd like Kanter on the team, but I don't want the team to surrender draft picks to get him. Also, the Spurs can't match salaries very easily at all.

Bonner makes $900K and is content to come off the bench. I'm guessing neither of those will apply to Kanter on his next deal.

Kanter's D is suspect, but he is young and can work on that. His offensive game is quite polished and he could be developed in the right environment.

Best I can see (that the team would do) is Kanter and Ingles for Ayres, Baynes a first either this year or next. Maybe throw in LJC (I wouldn't want to) or some other non-Bertans prospect.

I'm not sure the Spurs want to move two centers for one, but the value is certainly in SA's favor. Ingles would be a great backup for Kawhi, which would make trading Beli more desirable, but there's very little doubt in my mind that Marco will both remain on the team this season and be re-signed in the summer. I wouldn't hate that, honestly, if the Spurs could acquire a Kanter's Bird rights.

The other big hang-up would be Baynes' de-facto no-trade clause. If he's concerned about getting the minutes to showcase his talents, he would veto the trade. I could see him going to be with Ingles, but obviously, that wouldn't happen here. There'd be a hole in Utah's big rotation, but it would probably be filled with a PF, since Favors and Gobert are both centers.

Here's the thing. Kanter is trade bait because Gobert. If the spurs cant get Kanter for Ayers and minimal filler, id pass. Look at it like this, "forget Kanter, focus on why the spurs didn't get Gobert." don't bother telling me the spurs couldn't have gotten Gobert. That is bogus, and you know it. the proof is found where Gobert was drafted, where he went, and the difference.

I promise that if you look at why the spurs passed on making a Gobert deal, and why they also passed on a Tavares deal. You will realize that that moving the spoon is impossible, instead you will realize the truth.

There is no spoon, but unfortunately, there are still your posts here.

14ppg and 7 boards in 27 minutes. On a team like the Spurs with better spacing (Utah is 20th in 3pt shooting) and coaching, he could become a consistent 17 and 10 type guy. Still really young, only 22, maybe is ceiling is higher than that.

What does "there is no spoon" have to do with the spurs, Kanter, and missed Gobert and Tavares trades?

His defense is so bad that he has one of the worst real plus minuses in the league last gear. He's a real horrible rim protector and none of our PFs are rim protectors so he would struggle to be good fit here

I actually think he is better off playing the 4 spot.

More scorers at that position would expose his defense even more.

AaronY

He's too slow footed to play PF and he can't defend the rim at all so he's no good at the 5 either from what I've read

I think some of his defensive struggles could be minimized in San Antonio. According to that real +/- list, Green is 7th and Leonard is 3rd in positional rankings. Splitter, who is having a down season, ranked as the 6th best center defensively last season. I'd rather go after him as a consolation prize if and when we strike out on Gasol & L.A. as opposed to trading for him, though.

Kanter is a pretty good player and would have fit in decently here. Was worth the price. But this WAS against Denver and without Durant. May well be Kanter's best game as a Thunder this season.

Plus it's always "the first few games in a new uniform" syndrome. Josh Smith played great his first game as a Rocket, but hasn't been that good consistently since it seems.

Kanter is playing some great basketball right now. OKC did the best at the trade deadline by getting rid of Perkins' awful contract and getting a decent backup point guard in Augustine for Jackson who didn't even want to be there. Even though they are the 8 seed I see them as the favorites out of Western conference especially with Westbrook playing at an MVP level.

agree except the part they are favorites in the West. With Durant's condition and question marks they can't seriously be favorites. But they are contenders.

Spursfans need to pray to all the Gods out there that OKC remains in #8 seed so they can face the Warriors. Actually ALL NBA FANS need to pray for this.
