TX wins in the 5th Circuit court of appeals, extremely conservative/activist, with dubya-appointed risible fool, judicial garbage Priscilla Owen, right up there with dubya's mascara lady for SCOTUS.

Interesting.

Most of the ones that Texas won were about the state letting industry pollute more. Greeeeeaat.

Feds will appeal Repug judge Hanen blocking the immigration Exec Order and end up in the extremist right wing political hacks aka New Orleans 5th circuit with dubya's garbage jurist Priscilla Owen.

Greg Abbott has long used his position as AG as a platform for political aggrandizement. The Obama Administration has certainly been among his preferred targets, but I don't see most of these suits as particularly questionable or wasteful -- honestly, many of these suits make sense as efforts by a conservative state to fight off policies that are inconsistent with its own laws and policies regarding business development/regulation or the environment.

The greater toll, I think, has come when the State has fought Constitutional cases brought by citizens for infringements of liberty when the calls haven't seemed (to me, at least) to be particularly close and when the State was just fighting a purely political battle that seemed intended only to ingratiate officials with conservative voters. The seemingly relentless effort to prohibit same-sex marriage and the apparently unending effort to ignore the fundamental parameters of the First Amendment's religion clauses are among my favorite of Abbott's big stage plays, mostly because they seem so quixotic from the start.

"regulation or the environment"

... are FEDERAL laws, regulations, not state laws. Petro-state TX is the biggest polluting state in USA.

Right. And it appears that even the uber-conservative Fifth Circuit has agreed with you (and decided against Texas) in a significant number of those disputes, likely on that very basis.

blind squirrel cases. If there were dissenters in those 5th circuit cases, who were they?
