OL and WR coaching vacancies have been filled. Wanted a HS coach but can't complain given his resume. :tu

"I knew there were a lot of things I needed to work on. I felt I had underachieved. I worked really hard this year, and owe (offensive line) Coach (Mike) Markuson and (strength) Coach (Don Decker) a lot. I think I'm almost ready for the NFL." - Sandra Bullock's son aka Michael Oher

Regarding Midland CB Cairo Attaway, apparently that dude has been catfishing recruiting sites/coaches lol (props to Johnathan Wells from InsideUTSA for putting in the detective work on this one). He was on the JV his junior year yet managed to be mentioned in articles and receive Junior Day invites. Claims to be on all sorts of c/o '16 Elite DB watchlists, etc.His hudl looks average even for JV standards. Last I heard he had decided not to attend UTSA Jr Day bc he was planning on attending Texas Tech's Jr Day instead. :lol

C-USA West Stock Exchange

Jason: Buy. UTSA is a case of a large market program doing things the right way. FIU should be looking to UTSA for a game plan. With a strong fan base, market, and recruiting base; UTSA should be a major factor in the West every year.

Steven: Push. I really thought UTSA was about to explode on the scene last season before crumbling down the stretch. Recruits love the chance to build a new program, but having seen Coker's "influence" in Miami, is he really the man to lead a team out of the ashes? These next few years are crucial to the Roadrunners success in C-USA.

Jared: Buy. Even after a four win season UTSA continues to attract talented athletes and beat out P5 schools on the recruiting trail. With $45 million in renovations coming to the Alamodome UTSA heavily benefits from its status as the only FBS program located in one of the largest cities in the country.

Much needed upperclassman at QB, even if he doesn't win the starting gig. The battle was going to be b/w three freshman.

Mainly a back-up during his time at Michigan, hope that ACL injury didn't affect his mobility much:

Senior/Junior (2014) ... has appeared in one game ... PENN STATE (Oct. 11) ... made season debut.

Junior/Sophomore (2013) ... injured ACL during spring practice ... did not see game action.

Sophomore (2012) ... appeared in five contests as a reserve quarterback ...NEBRASKA (Oct. 27) ... completed three passes for 38 yards ... registered first career completion for eight yards vs. Illinois (Oct. 13) ... made career debut as reserve quarterback vs. Alabama (Sept. 1).

Freshman (2011) ... Sugar Bowl champion ... did not see game action ... redshirted.

If Tulane had put as much effort into the program after 1998 as UTSA does now, they would be in a P5 conference by now. They finished 12-0 and ranked 7th in the country with Rich Rodriguez running the offense. Also had a 20 win basketball season and a nationally ranked baseball program which ended up going to the College World Series 3 years later. Instead, they passed over RichRod for the head coaching job after Tommy Bowden left for Clemson, hired numerous loser basketball coaches after Perry Clark left for Miami, and now have one of the least successful sports program in the last 15 years with no hopes of going anywhere. Too much potential back then playing in the Superdome and in a market like New Orleans to no go anywhere.

Wasn't Tulane SEC at one point? Seems like schools with elite academics have purposely made athletics secondary to strengthen their academic's image. Rice pretty much did the same thing after their SWC days. Tulane's new stadium is nice though. :tu

Representatives from 14 NFL teams -- including Oakland Raiders (http://www.nfl.com/teams/oaklandraiders/profile?team=OAK) director of college scouting Shaun Herock -- were present for Texas-San Antonio's pro day on Monday, when 28 Roadrunners players worked out.

» 2015 pro days schedule, results and analysis (http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000000471580/article/2015-pro-days-schedule)

Defensive tackle Ashaad Mabry (6-foot-2 1/2, 322 pounds) ran the 40-yard dash in 5.33 and 5.37 seconds. He had a 22 1/2-inch vertical jump and an 8-foot-3 broad jump. He did the 20-yard short shuttle in 5.18 seconds and the three-cone drill in 8.35 seconds. He also performed 26 reps of 225 pounds on the bench press. Mabry had a good workout, and is described as having very good quickness for a guy of his size. He is a potential free-agent pickup for a team following the conclusion of the 2015 NFL Draft (http://www.nfl.com/draft/2015).

Defensive back Triston Wade (5-10 7/8, 185) ran the 40 in 4.52 and 4.55 seconds. He had a 35 1/2-inch vertical jump and 10-foot broad jump. He did the short shuttle in 4.22 seconds and the three-cone drill in 7.29 seconds (though, his time wasn't as good as expected since this drill was run on a slippery surface). Wade also had seven strength lifts. Wade is a potential rookie free-agent pickup for a team following the draft.

Texas-San Antonio's pro day, along with Texas State's pro day (http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000000481136/article/will-johnson-of-texas-state-puts-on-a-kicking-show-at-pro-day), helped kick off on Monday what many refer to as "The Texas Cattle Drive." This is a busy week for pro day activity in the state of Texas. Texas' pro day is Tuesday, and SMU's is being held Wednesday. On Thursday, Houston and North Texas will host pro days. On Friday, TCU will hold its pro day.

Nah but S Triston Wade signed an UDFA contract with the Seahawks and DT Ashaad Mabry signed one with the Saints. Woudln't be surprised if a couple more sign within the next couple of days as well. I think Wade's aggressive style fits right in with the LOB tbh.

There's always a chance Austin's CW or MyTV networks pick up some games, but they already play Big 12 and Texas State games. TWC SportsNet in Austin picked up more than a few basketball games and maybe one football game last year IIRC. Even if it's just online, I hope there is a consistent way to view the ASN games up here.

How many players have accepted offers as of now? It's cool to be new to this stuff, but the idea is to progress. Maybe that conference is out of their league. They should be better than this. Coker got them started, they may need to pay more and get a next step staff. Cmon Dickey, get it going.

They're 1-2 in conference. Got manhandled this past week but the week before that they only lost by 3 to the West division favorite. Should be favored the next three games too...UNTand two other start-ups that are even newer to CUSA than we are.

Also playing solid teams close raised our expectations a bit, but truth be told they're a bunch of underclassmen. Probably the youngest team in all of FBS. Being 1-6 shouldn't be all that shocking especially with that OOC schedule. If once these underclassmen are upperclassmen we're still sucking then I'll start getting worried tbh.

If it's another season of tailing off...

This is a big school now. They may need to put more money on the table for a coach. Coker got this thing started with his name. That's not gonna cut it anymore. How many recruits have committed?

I have a stake in UTSA doing well in everything. Yes, including academics which have definitely improved.

Big school only in enrollment. Don't really have the resources to be a big school in other areas (including athletics) yet. Don't get me wrong I wish I could say we are a big school but just being realistic about it. Coker just got a substantial raise and he's still one of the lowest paid coaches in all of FBS. On the bright side, UTSA is indeed growing pretty fast in a lot of areas just gotta give it time.

Only five recruits so far but last class was a full class, and the team is full of underclassmen so not sure how many guys they're taking this year.

Best UTSA news in a while. OC Kevin Brown is officially out. Anybody that has seen the post-Soza offense knows this was long overdue. He was never qualified for the job, his experience prior to becoming OC consisted of a couple of years as RBs coach at Texas State+1 year as TEs coach at UTSA. He was compensated like it too ($112.5k/yr), the Scout site is saying the next OC hire could be in the 250k range.

UTSA fans want Mike Jinks from Texas Tech/Steele to come in as OC and basically be the head coach in waiting for when Coker retires in 1-2 years.

Saw that yesterday. Didn't know his contract ran out at the end of January. Won't win a bidding war with Tech but I wonder if he would take less to be a coordinator knowing that Coker retires soon. Probably not but that'd be awesome, only negative would be that it's really close to signing day.

Timing is very odd, especially since UTSA's last game was 5 weeks ago. I'm curious what caused this action. If it was Hickey's actions, then Coker would have been fired after the season. If Coker realized it was time to move on, I think he would have had the decency to resign sooner to allow a new hire and not cause as much damage to recruiting. My guess if there was some power struggle between Coker and Hickey on something like an extension or the amount of money he could pay a OC.

Well sports actually has a large impact on overall perception for a school like UTSA. Even in academics. I openly want UTSA to excel in sports. It's good for the entire community IMO. Okie St recruits Texas hard, especially SA. They have more players on their roster from SA than anyone in the country. His defense last season had Ramon Richards (Brackenridge), Jordan Sterns and Ryan Simmons (Steele), Tre Flowers (Judson), and Vincent Taylor (Madison). He has plenty of Texas connections tbh.

Horrible hire in my opinion.

He's only been a position coach/recruiter. It's easy recruiting at LSU. It's the only P5 school in a state loaded with talent. LSU has recruited well way before Wilson got there. I'm sure he will recruit solidly, but he has no coordinating experience. Just because he's a good recruiter, doesn't mean he will be able to coach these guys up.

This guy was clamoring for the Tulane job and the New Orleans media was hyping him up because he could recruit well and was from the NOLA area. Tulane hired a similar guy instead in Curtis Johnson who could recruit well, but couldn't coach worth a shit. When Tulane fired Johnson after this past season, people in the NOLA area were clamoring for Wilson again, but Tulane rightfully went with a proven winner at head coach in Willie Fritz. Wilson doesn't have that kind of experience as a coach.

Memphis hired a similar guy to Wilson in Larry Porter in 2010-2011. He was the RB coach at LSU for 5 seasons and known as a big time recruiter. His record at Memphis in two seasons was 3-21. The guy had no idea how to run a program or coach up players.

I could be wrong and will be the first to admit so, but I think UTSA will have the same fate with Wilson. Being a head coach will be too much for him. UTSA should have hired someone who has led a winning program whether it was from the FCS or a lower level FBS conference.

His inexperience is part of the reason why I was in the Spencer camp. I remembered Johnson from Tulane and how that turned out. He was successful in turning a New Orleans high school around though which somewhat eased those concerns. Then I saw his press conference and heard his interviews and I was sold. Well spoken and dude brought a schedule of his 22-day plan (leading up to NSD) for the program to his interview before he even got the job. He also took a paycut to be a HC so he's hungry.

Only time will tell though. It's definitely a high risk, high reward hire.

You have to take risks when you have the budget UTSA has (which is quite low). I think he's a good hire.

Hard to hit a home run hire at head coach for $800k. No matter who they had hired, UTSA is probably gonna have at least three or four losing seasons in a row.

I think they swung as well as they could playing with a wiffle bat

No.

Sorry but you don't get to have Nick Saban for 800k.

Not even Dennis Fran tbh

$800k coaches can't have winning seasons?

Check Fran's salary at TxSt.

Of course they can, but it's the current state of utsa football plus the brutal out of conference schedules that make losing seasons a probability more than a possibility.

And then not being able to hire a top flight coach makes it that much harder.

2015 was supposed to be a down year. It was mostly all underclassmen. Major changes happened not because expectations were high but because there was gross incompetence shown at times by the coaching staff. It's unfair to automatically assume that because these guys didn't win as freshman they won't win as upperclassmen.

Take a look at upcoming UTSA schedules. OOC eases up starting this upcoming season.

That's the spirit. Set yourself up for disappointment so we'll see lol posts like these again:

We suck. Not like last year's kind of suck but like bottom 3 in all of FBS kind of suck. Drawing attention to the program is probably the last thing I want to do right now.

Oh ok. Guess instead I should just assume a new coaching staff+players getting older will produce the same shitty results.

If you choose to go DI and get accepted I expect to be able to hire coaches. What about DII or III coaches who have winning programs? I am worried about hiring a coattail DI "coach"

They could have hired a successful FCS coach or an excellent coordinator from a higher level conference whether P5 or AAC. But they chose to go with a recruiting coordinator.

Decent hires. Reason to be fairly optimistic for a Popeye's Bahamas Bowl berth in a few years.

Frank Scelfo was Tulane's offensive coordinator over a decade ago. He was pretty solid. Has plenty of experience.
