I think he will fill the wright void nicely but with better offense and will be great on the pick and roll with Harris/barea. The less we see of Charlie Villanueva and Greg smith the better.

It's a low risk move, but I'm not sure that it moves the Mavs likely ceiling of a second-round exit. The West is just so good this year that there's no shame in Dallas being only 4th or 5th in the conference. But Cuban sees this as a two year window with this group. Best-case scenario he gives the Mavs some good minutes in what's left of the regular season so they can keep Tyson and Dirk's minutes down before the playoffs, and maybe in a specific playoff series against a specific opponent, he helps them in some sort of matchup advantage.

This is the first Mavs team since 2001 where I don't think you can say Dirk is their best player. I've never seen him miss so many open jumpers as he has this year. Some nights he just doesn't have it. But he's still a very good player. I just don't know that they can win a title when Dirk is probably 70 percent of what he was 2006-2011.

Then again, isn't this Amare Stoudemire for 20 minutes a night replacing what Brandon Wright did for this team?

No matter what every single year or so they switch rosters, even after the title year lol. They always look different next year, that you can count on. I am not saying they are worse off but honestly they never keep a team together long enough to really gel and that is why they only have one title IMO. They don't have the continuity but yes after missing the playoffs that one year and last years 8th seed I thought dark days were ahead, they did turn it around with some moves and are better this year.

Josh Smith is actually league average from 3 with the Rockets while he has been here and usually fills up the entire stat sheet. Amare is not the player anymore that will move the needle much for the Mavs imo.

After some early struggles Josh has been good. Especially since Dwight went out. I was hating on the move at first but it was a good pickup especially with Coward's bulky knee. Harden has been able to feed him for some easy scores I dont know if it's a "lefty" thing ...but I think their chemistry has been solid.

I'd have loved for the Mavs to keep more of the 2011 team. If anything they could have used that as leverage to bring in better FAs.

Oh well, at the very least that did rebuild a nice team now. But keeping a core 3 as the Spurs have, seems to have been a better option in the long run.

this. that was all I was arguing. If you kept tyson and Dirk and added VC and or montae that is a high level team. Do you beat Spurs any of the years after 2011? Maybe not, but with RC working his magic they pushed them last year ...

hilarious to see spurfans and all the spermshooting that was going on upstairs over the possibility of getting Amare for 15-20 bench minutes a game, and the second he goes to dallas for the exact same purpose, suddenly he sucks, its a horrible acquisition, and hes the worst basketball player on earth

Even more, I think by keeping Tyson and having VC and Monta you then have enough assets to go and pull a trade for a big time player. Maybe you can package Monta and Rondo, with expiring deals and go get Melo. Or use Tyson and VC/Monta to go and get Cousins. A better team is always much easier to re-tool around because you have more assets to play with.

They add a piece or two as they did in the 00's title runs but usually keep the core. Mavs have had so many re shapes it's hard to keep up.

Hilarious to see the backpedalling after Josh Smith decided to go to the Rockets instead of the Mavs.

Stat might be good, but im predicting his knee problems will emerge at the worst time. Especially how O'Neal was talked about as the saviour.... now Stat has become the go to guy.

Brandon Wright was that glue guy and more important than mavs fans want to admit

If every team could put together a Big 3 of the caliber of Tony, Tim and Manu and convince somebody of Pop's caliber to coach them, then they would. Outside of a few incompetent franchises like the Knicks or the Wolves, most teams could execute such a plan. The Spurs have shown what that kind of continuity can do in terms of keeping your window open, but for most teams it's not realistic. Stuff happens - injuries, salary cap problems, contract disputes, etc. It's very hard to keep a team together in the NBA for longer than 3-4 years. What the Spurs have done is very special and outside the norm in terms of keeping their core together in contention for so long. I don't think Dallas has a problem being impatient and shuffling deck chairs, maybe when Cuban first bought the team and tried to buy his way into contention, but not anymore. But compared to the Spurs, any team looks ad hoc in comparison.

He's had a mini hot streak like anyone who is poor at something can. If someone bats .220 for a season they will have a few 4-4 games mixed in maybe even a week or two where they bat .300 thats why you look at a larger sample size. He's at 28% for his career on over 1300 attempts so there'll be regression to the mean. This hot streak is even worse since its fool's gold and is only gonna encourage him to keep shooting.
