View Full Version : Expect a quiet trade deadline for Spurs

Most seasons, the NBA trade deadline is but a rumor in San Antonio. Typically light on tradeable assets, and with an organization-wide ethos that values continuity above all, Spurs coach Gregg Popovich and general manager R.C. Buford are generally content to let the day come and go without making a splash.

Expect Thursday’s deadline to be one of those.

“The chances we get anything done are probably zero-point-four,” Popovich told the Express-News after the Spurs practiced Wednesday in Santa Monica.

We might be a little more active on the waived player market.

I really don't expect a trade, tbh. The buy out market is where I think we make a move.

If they can get at least a 2nd round pick for Parker, I'll literally cry of happiness, tbh..

The Spurs make their moves come buyout time.

That's when you get the bargains.

No use trading for those who want out at this point -- a little later you can get em for free. :)

Perhaps a metaphor - people never thought it would happen but in the end they were stunned. Or likely him just trolling...

This news is hardly surprising. But it's a major bummer for people like me who were holding out hope that a miracle last-minute deal could happen. :lol

Honestly we can hope but you and I along with all Spurs fans should know by now it never happens. I expect nothing at all and am fine with that.

More than likely it will be a quiet trade deadline. The only real question I have is what are the Spurs going to do with CoJo in the offseason? With him being a restricted free agent I sure some team will pay him well enough that the Spurs would not want to match. Right now they 3 quality point guards. With Beli back that most likely means he is not in the postseason rotation.

Ayers hasn't been played for a while... trade him! But for what?

Knicks need to shed $2.8 to get under the tax and Jason Smith makes $3.3. Perhaps a third team with cap room can take on Ayres. One of Knicks or Spurs would have to give something to team three to incentivize them and Knicks would need to get back something (protected 2nd?).

Smith provides some better floor spacing while Ayers will see no playing time so long as Baynes is around.
