" Despite the reputation of the job, there’s nothing glamorous about life as a flight attendant, especially in the first few years. New flight attendants who work for major carriers start out making $18,000-$20,000 a year. Flight attendants at smaller airlines and regional carriers? They make even less."

I've read recently too that new pilots are sort of in the same boat.

Why should they make more than that? Seems about right for traveling waitresses.

Add the perk of free standby travel anywhere they fly and it can be an attractive job for some.

$40k looks like median, not starting salary
Worst Jobs of 2013 - 10. Flight Attendant
BLS National Salary Median:$37,740
Projected Job Growth:0%
Jobs Rated Score:970
High stress, low pay and a shrinking job market all contribute to flight attendant’s inclusion among the worst jobs of 2013. The BLS projects virtually no change in job prospects, as airlines continue to consolidate and reduce staff.

Airport jobs that don't require higher learning generally earn pretty poorly, tbh..the most appealing incentive is the flight benefits..I know several people that kept 1 shift a week at the airport, even after getting a better job, just to keep the flight benefits..

That was not new hires, and the article goes on to say $40k average.
I do find it hard to believe they hours don't start until the airplane doors close. I think that's incorrect.
Stewardesses having many roommates?
Maybe I should find one and offer her a free place to say when in Portland!
