May as well start it off, since last year's thread was so popular.
Starting with sad news: The Ravens released Jacoby Jones today. :cry
benefactor (http://www.spurstalk.com/forums/member.php?u=13284) at least they got the best of him.

It's interesting, because they don't even save a lot of money be releasing him. You can't cut a player and designate him a post-June 1 cut until March 10, so if the team released him now, then they only save $750k (really only $400k when you count the replacement salary). Not worth it for a guy who's already shown he can bounce back.

also i've heard Torrey Smith is good as gone. with Smith Sr. another year older, that position is of big concern

Torrey Smith should be packing his bags after he blatantly quit on his team, tbh.

If PI goes to a 15 yd penalty, Flacco is screwed.

Eh, with Jones cut and Torrey unlikely to re-sign, I dunno if it's a big deal. Joe doesn't project to have speed targets next year.

:lmao Good point.....
But, that rule hasn't been passed yet. I'm still sticking with him until then.....

His entire career has been throwing up jump balls and praying for a bullshit PI call. He rode that shit to a fucking Super Bowl win.

They cut Chris Canty today. That bummed me out, because I actually really liked him as a player. Needed to happen, though. The Ravens are now under the cap, and if they get an extension done with Ngata, they should have enough room to sign a couple of cheap players. We'll see what happens over the next week or so.

As of now, Baltimore has 9 players with cap hits higher than 6 mil... the most of playoff teams from a year ago

Torrey and Pernell gone. Not a great start to the off-season.

Ngata and Daniels gone. No Andre or Cary, either.
This is going to be painful, but at least the team has about $10 Million in cap space with the ability to add another $10 Million with extensions of key players. And they have 10/11 draft picks, including a projected three in the fourth and three in the fifth.

had to dump ngata for cap purposes even after Suggs restructured... and next year Flacco's cap hit is monstrous

"Had to" is relative. They were still in the black after the Suggs restructure, and they have a few million in contracts they could dump easily. They definitely could have afforded to ride out this season if they didn't get value for Ngata. But they did, so it's all moot.
Agree on the Flacco contract, but the Ravens will be free of Rice's deal then in addition to being able to free cap space from cutting Pitta and Webb. They'll be fine.

It depends on how they finish out this year. Cutting Webb and Pitta should give them the space they need to offset Joe's increase, so if they have a good team this season, they could be able to stay good next season. They have a few guys I'd like to see them extend, but it's not dire yet.
I'm much more worried about their draft panning out this season than I am about free agency next season.
