View Full Version : Props to MVPorker for going toe-to-toe with Ray McCallum

MVPorker - 19 pts, 4 assts, 7/16 shooting
McCallum - 20 pts, 3 assts, 10/17 shooting

Yeah, McCallum is averaging 4.7 ppg for the season and his previous career high was 12 points but so what...MVPorker played some tough ass defense on him. Also the Spurs were only up by 10 points before MVPorker decided to go hog wild and close the game out. He's back!!

Yeah it's kinda sad at this point. Parker absolutely deserves criticism for his shitty performance this year, but this board is getting ruined by all these stupid topics. It's not even funny most of the time. The occasional Parker is a fat cancer post is fine...but this shit is obsessive.

BTW, McCallum's career high isn't 12 points. He's scored 20+ points multiple times in his career. Also, Mills gave up at least 8 of those points.

tbf, as I said after the Portland game, I don't want Rique to play well. Mediocre shit like today is just enough for Pop to continue playing him. It's like being a perennial 9 or 10 seed.

If Parker fell off the face of the Earth, and any of your favorite Spurs lead us to a championship, I would be ecstatic. I don't give a flying fuck about Parker's contract now, it's done, just let us win. You name the GD starting lineup and your MVP, if we win, I'll take it in a heartbeat. If we win, and it requires Parker never seeing the floor again, I'm fine.

Ever felt this way? Ever? But with Parker as our improving star again? Parker leading our team in everyway AND us winning? Give me this as well. I don't give a fuck who our leader, our best player is. I want another championship.

Wasn't going to reply to this, but i'll bite... If you're going to post box score stats, some context should be also made available, unless of course, you have an agenda or something.....

McCallum's made 10FG's Breakdown:

1st FG- Came off a P&R while Splitter was guarding him, and he drove past him
2nd FG- Drove by Parker, scored over TD
3rd FG- Came off a fast break after a Duncan miss
4th FG- Parker not in the game. TO lead to a fast break basket past Patty
5th FG- Parker not in the game. Got by Patty and hit jumper over Duncan
6th FG- Parker not in the game. Got by Patty, and lay in over Splitter
7th FG- Parker got around screen, and Ray hit a contested jump shot over TP
8th FG- Fast break basket off missed FG over Parker and Boris
9th FG- Shot clock winding down, great defense by Parker, Ray had no choice but to throw up a prayer, it went in.
10thFG- Garbage time. Parker not in, drove by Cojo

I could probably go back and see how many the 7 misses came were off Parker but it's not worth it. Your agenda is pretty sad if you are reverting to McCallums box score stats and insinuating Parker failed defensively. I gave you the benefit of the doubt and highlighted 4 of them that came with Parker playing defense, but even 2 of those, were very well defended by Parker, and it seemed the 2nd one was by design where we like to funnel wings into the paint where TD/Splitter are.

All this is readily available on NBA.com/stats

http://stats.nba.com/game/#!/0021400867/

Video box scores are awesome.... You can see every made FG, every missed, assist, turnover, etc.... Helps to refute the garbage threads like this.

Try being objective, man. I saw the game. He's statistically a bottom 5 defender in the league for a reason and it's no coincidence McCallum nearly doubled his career high against him. He sucks at 'fighting' through screens and his 'contests' are weak. CoJo came in for one defensive possession in the 4th when McCallum was getting anything he wanted vs Rique--just that one possession made it obvious that McCallum wasn't very good he was just exploiting a terrible defender in Rique.

FkLA
02-28-2015, 07:38 PM

02-28-2015, 09:19 PM
You basically ignored the argument. I'm not disagreeing his defense hasnt been subpar the last few seasons, but if you think his closeouts were weak last night, there's no point in discussing anything. The video proof if there.. I am simply discussing his effort and defense from last night

His closeouts are weak by default, like Bonner, Belli etc. guy just doesn't have the physical ability, even when they look good they're bad. Same thing happened to him against ORL against Payton, dude was tearing him up.

Plus when a player is penetrating as much as McCallum it means he's sucking in the defense, breaking it down, so if he passes out and they continue to move the ball, he won't get the assist. Constant penetrations that suck in the defense also lead to rebounding, more high % put back shots cause they're around the paint, a discombobulated defense etc.

This is a nice get. CoJo would have never been a defensive guard if he had not been coached by Pop. McCallum is more athletic, better off the dribble, still young, and is a coaches son, so he will listen, and pickup things quicker. The Spurs, doing things the Spurs way, are gonna coach this boy up, and he is gonna get rewarded with a nice pay day in about 3 years. Book it.

Tony saw a long time ago the potential of McCallum, he just wanted to make sure while getting the win by playing smart basketball to let the kid shine to convince PATFO to follow him as a potential back up PG

Damn... dat Parker is the best thing that happened since the invention of the burger tbh... Diaw, JCL, Nando, Ian, McCallum, key role in LMA's recruitment. Parker will retire as a Spurs and will part of Spurs Front Office right after tbh
