Seriously, great game AD. 36 pts, 14 Rebs, 7 Assists, 9 blocks. ESPN is touting your performance as one of the best in NBA history even though it came in a loss and against the hapless (26-41) Denver Nuggets.

This dude thinks your numbers are cute:

Tim Duncan
(21 pts, 20 Rebounds, 10 Assists, 8 Blocks)
Game 6 vs. Nets (Closeout game for Championship)

I know I'm being a dick, but the Big Fundamental still deserves his props.

ESPN is a sales network these days in the sense that they are trying to sell you a product which includes hyping and lying about it in order for the casual fans to watch it. I think the other day Wilboun compared Irving scoring 57 against the Spurs to Isiah Thomas' historical game against the Lakers where he went off for 40 plus which happened in the finals. With that being said Davis is the second best player in the league right now but I do find it annoying how they keep comparing him to Duncan when his game is actually more similar to David Robinson.

ESPN and the NBA are in collusion to sell you (as the poster above pointed out) a product that's not as good as they advertise it to be. Davis is damn good, but we haven't seen a dominant big in a long fucking time.

How does ESPN giving Davis credit diminish Duncan in any way, tbh?:lol..

It's unrelated to Davis, but guys like Duncan and Hakeem are always going to be overshadowed, though, because of the era they dominated in..Olajuwon's peak was when Dad Killer retired, and Duncan's was during the least popular era in NBA history(2003 to 2007)..

OP got defensive for no reason. Nobody was trying to diminish Duncan in any way by hyping AD.

Tim's peak and "least popular era" are intertwined. They are cause and effect, not chance happening. Tim isn't flashy, and the Lakers were destroying everyone. The lockout pissed a lot of fans off who abandoned the sport (fair weather guys mostly). Hockey had the same issue not long before (like they could be any shittier to watch on TV, fun in person though).

The Pistons and Spurs is not a popular rivalry. Neither team was flashy, they both played stifling defense and played half court offenses. Even Shaq's Lakers were a half court team. Then came the Suns and Lebron, running and shooting all the time. The script was written for Lebron/Kobe but one of them always shit the bed ala Dan and Dave (that'll take you back). Now you have OKC, GS, Houston and Portland, all jumpshooting teams. Fans love that. No one likes the post up game anymore. It's like preferring the slugger over the technical fighter.

He is awesome. A top 5 player in the league. He will be a 1st team All-NBA. What more you want?

Not defensive. Its undeniable he had a great game. My negative tone is reserved for ESPN and its over-the-top hype but I couldn't say it without sounding asshole-ish. Can't we just say he had a great game instead of saying it was one of the best in NBA history? One of the best games of the season by anyone for sure.

He played 50 minutes. Sorry, but no, and he still lost. Good game, but not Earth shattering.

I might agree with this. Actually I do and probably now have him over KD. But he has to win. We all love Davis he is a stud. but some of you shit on Love, Kyrie etc for putting up stats but not making playoffs. Davis should not get a pass or you are being a hypocrite. The eye test tells me he is that, DMC ... but you guys (not you per se) love to change criteria for shit base don whose "style of play" you like.

And I will also add as much talent as Wiggins, Okafor, Towns, Lillard have none of those guys will be better than ADvais is right now!

Love has been in the league long enough for everyone to know him. He's had teams around him that were capable of making the playoffs. He's a stat whore, this is certain. He's a good player, can hurt you on any given night, but rarely does his game translate to a win because he plays Kevin ball, boxing out his teammates for rebounds, watching guys blow past him as he rotates away from them so he can box out for another rebound. He shouldn't be in the same conversation with Davis. However Davis needs to be consistent.

I agree. But Im still asking the question why does Adavis get a pass? his team is in the hunt. They have some solid and mediocre talent around him. dude is being compared to timmy .Not sure how Minny should make the playoffs in a stacked West anymore than NOLA should. Nola when healthy has arguably more talent than Love's teams ...I am in no way saying Love is close to Davis. My argument is you cant shit on LOve for not making playoffs but suck off Davis without mentioning he has not made it either.

Davis is the better defender, shot blocker almost as good a rebounder, better dribbler .. heck ,Davis is better at everything except deep shooting and outlet passes.

But again he still needs to make playoffs stacked West or not. Pau got Memphis to a playoff. And around here he is MVPau but Love is a stat whore loser. Just sayin'

Davis doesn't get a pass. If you're a box score watcher then any good stats game is the same, but if you watch the games you'll see that Davis has it all. How far he takes it is another thing, but you look at Kevin Love in Cleveland, what has he done? Where are those stats? Put Davis there instead and you might as well close up shop everywhere else.

I cite Davis missing the playoffs in another thread, said "call me when he makes a playoff appearance". Still, he's the best since Lebron. That's not a compliment to the league.

If Kevin fell into a role where he was an asset to the team, that's fine but what I've seen is that he gets his when he can. He still has good numbers, but he's nowhere near as gawdy as he was in Minnesota. He's now closer to Zach Randolph level. Maybe not that even.

I know it's early. and I hope Lakers get Towns OR Okafor and that I am wrong about it ...but I dont see either guy being as good as Davis is right now. Same with Randle, Exum, Mudiay and Jabari. Davis is the best talent I have seen since Lebron and maybe Pre-injury durant. Am I the only one worried that Durant may never be as good again as his MVP season? I was still saying he was #2 to James (over Davis) a month ago. But this latest foot "setback" makes me think his future has dimmed a bit. Hope I am wrong ...

I think Durant reached his peak already. Once Lebron owned him in the Finals, Durant should have been working on a post-up game. He didn't and doesn't seem interested in it either. With his injury, he will be even more of a jump shooter.

Davis has the potential to be great but time will tell. Right now he is putting up some solid numbers, but he doesn't deserve to be mentioned with the all-time greats. Its not fair to him either. Plus...the brow. C'mon man. That hairy Caterpillar needs to go.

I hear ya but just speaking of natural talent. Lebron has a Rudimentary post-game but it's effective. You can tell he has worked on his talent he doesnt just overpower people for 48 mins ... and to be fair so has durant. Sure, he has less
of a post game than James. but he is skinnier and has added some Dirk to his game. People forget just last year some argued if Durant has passed James. Soem argued if he was a better offensive player than Kobe was in his prime. Both of those are crazy but the point being is Durant was really good. I just wonder if we have already seen his best.

Davis seems to have a prime still out there ...

Davis passes the "good stats on a bad team" test for me, as his team is without a doubt a playoff caliber ball club that is just on the wrong end of a brutally tough western conference. This is a terrible roster that he is leading to a ~45 win season in the West, and he would definitely get them to 50 wins in the East. Love, for example, never really led Minnesota to any season as good as the one the Pelicans are headed towards. And Davis is a rare exception to media overhyping someone in order to sell the product, he's a legitimate superstar that would be great in any era and, health permitting, will go down as an all time great most likely
