When the game is close we have no one who can make a clutch shot. Tim was just awful throwing up a one handed prayer begging for a foul and then throwing the losing pass, Kawhi fades away in the fourth not only misses a game winner, but misses a FT and almost turns the ball over. Tony didn't wan't to be a hero and Boris is too fat to do anything. Danny epic fails. You can see why they can't win close games now. There is no one who can handle the job. Instead of Green or Beli bring in Patty. He'll shoot even if he misses it at least there is no hesitation.

BTW the female referee was god awful. She couldn't even find her whistle when Kawhi got fouled. So she wasn't planning on calling anything. She was looking right at the Kawhi fumble and she called it the wrong way. On her side of the floor no fouls were called. She shouldn't be in the NBA its true, I saw why.

They just won an NBA title last year with the same roster..not only did they win, but they were arguably the greatest playoff team in NBA history:lol..

Well last year we had Kawhi, Boris, and Patty playing over their heads. This year? Everyone but kawhi has regressed. The OP's point stands. The spurs do not have anyone other than parker who can win via sheer will. Kawhi has almost got it.

Its not bleak, it's just that this team isn't 100% motivated and many key guys are playing less than well. It happens

sure. Last year was unique. You brought it up first though. Maybe i misunderstood. I thought you were arguing that either 1) we do have that guy 2) the system transcends the need to have a dominant player

I agree with #2 but think it's not guaranteed we'll be able to make the ball movement system work with so much lackluster players and the generally unmotivated regression. AS a fan, i believe in the switch, but rationally, I have to concede the odds are against the spurs without home court and without motivation.

I don't think the Spurs are going to turn it on, it's probably too late and too many players have declined/regressed, I was just saying that the team doesn't need "a guy" like Lebron, etc to dominate, it's not what the system calls for..

The guy...

That was Tim, a while back.
Last years team, arguably one of the best in NBA history did not have, The Guy. We had a lot of guys.

right. Spurs system is based on all five players being unable to make a clutch shot or defensive stop.

So fans in panic wainting for Lebron takes his talent to Texas...:lol

We don't have "The" guy since Tim in his peak years and the Spurs still won rings.

Well, if both kawhi, Parker, and green play well, we'll usually win. I'm not ready to write the spurs off, we've seen signs that they give a shit. Now they just got to be ready to give a shit every quarter, every game. Ho boy, this season has been a challenge.

The spurs have never been good in crunch time situations. I've always felt that the spurs need to win by double digits and not have the game come down to the wire. The reason we won last year was because in pretty much all our wins, we blew out the opponent and didn't give ourselves a chance to choke. I can only think of a few games that came down to the wire and in those close games, we choked in most of them. There was the vince carter buzzer beater, game 6 vs dallas that we choked away a lead late in the 4th, game 2 of the finals that we choked cuz we couldn't hit ft's. The only close game we managed to win was game 6 vs okc and even that game we had a big lead that we lost. It took a tough manu 3 and a lucky bounce on duncan's shot to win that game. What I'm saying is I think we need to have something similar to last year where we won by double digits in most of our playoff wins in order for us to repeat.

Kawhi as much as he has improved can't compensate for the decline of the Big Three.

Kawhi playing like tonight game? Not really.

Kawhi playing at high level like last 8 games? Maybe.

But we need to be realistic, nobody can't expect one player replace 3 HOFers and the best PF of NBA history.

Not a knock on Kawhi just the cold hard truth

Wow incredible that 10 years later Ginobili is the only player in the team who can create from thin air either from himself or other.
No wonder why pop still trusts him key possessions at the end of the game.
I cannot believe that Pop and RC weren´t able to find someone who can partially replace what he brings to the table at creating for others. Last year´s Diaw was the most similar we had in years. Hope Kyle Anderson develops.

Diaw last year was a different player. He was the "it" player a lot of the time like Horry was on the 2005 team.

I'm not giving up on this team yet. I'm old enough to remember the 1995 Rockets who won 47 games and finished 3rd before repeating as champions. Since then several teams have tried to do the same thing including the 2003 Lakers.

This is a strange season because the West is so deep that seeding is practically irrelevant. While home court is important, I just don't know that the motivation is there yet.

Diaw, Ginobili and Patty are the question marks for me. I think everyone else will show up.
