I mean, they almost won b2b rings only to get bitchslapped by Horry in game 5, and TD in game 7. Next year they look good again, only to run on to Wade and the eventual champs and the year after that they got beaten by Lebron James alone. And then the last year of their core they were raped by a newly formed super team in the Celts. Wow :lol

Dallas would have waxed that 06 Pistons team in the Finals and they went way downhill in 07 and 08.

On a decade dominated by 2 teams, they did well considering they didn't have a Superstar in their team.

I consider Chauncey and Sheed as at least borderline superstars. They had the either charisma(sheed) or leadership(chauncey) and balls(both literally and figuratively in the clutch.

This. Rasheed wasnt even a superstar in college and the heels are my 2nd fave college hoops squad.

this place is way to loose with superstar. By that criteria KL, Tony,Manu, Horry are superstars

Game 7 officiating was horrendous against the Pistons. Sheed, Ben Wallace, and McDyess each got in foul trouble in the early 3rd quarter. They never really had a chance.

Nah, you don't trade a superstar for a washed up Allen Iverson.

Saying Melo wasn't a superstar is about as much bullshit as saying Billups and Sheed were. He's like T-Mac. Just because he turned into a TOSB way earlier than expected, doesn't mean he wasn't a superstar at one point.

FkLA
03-19-2015, 06:24 PM
That term gets thrown around way too loosely. If we assume superstar is the highest tier then there should only be a handful of them. Probably only Bron, KD and AD atm with Curry, Harden and Russ a tier below them imo.

tmac had a good two years or so but did nothing in his career so he cannot be a superstar.

I guess they were unlucky, but they also weren't as good as any of those other teams. So the 1 ring was an accurate representation of how good they were.

The thing is, Sheed's brain is the only thing that kept him from being a superstar. He's one of the most naturally gifted players to ever pick up a ball.

You don't go from superstar to traded for nothing 2 years later. Chauncey was never a superstar. There are only a few. Melo is borderline. KD is a superstar. Lebron is a megastar.

Pistons Big 4 were All NBA/All Star caliber players. None produced consistent high level production with versatile skills, not to mention the marketing tag that goes to "Real Superstars" who are widely popular compared to other players.

Ben Wallace was extremely one dimensional. He got more love from the mainstream basketball fans than his game dictates tbh. I don't have a problem with people putting him in that elite superstar group, but personally his peak was extremely short and his offensive was a huge liability to be considered as one.

And? Trading isn't the standard for being a superstar, it's the drop-off in your game

i still dunno why they broke up that core...is it because bwallace left so might as well break up the team?

they couldve competed for a couple of more years at least 4yrs

breaking up that team, open up the way for celtics big3 and heat 3 easy competition

Detroit wasn't unlucky. They were a victim of the same thing other teams fall victim to; themselves. So many teams have a good thing going and fuck it up by shuffling the deck again on a win streak. You see it all the time. Hey we made the Finals... let's let this guy go, acquire this overrated guy and next year we'll be even better. Hey we won a ring, let's blow it up, it's easy to build a championship contender.

Can't really blame them for not being able to afford Okur, and McDyess was a great replacement. They would have needed to salary dump one of the Wallaces to pay Okur, which would have been ridiculous.
