View Full Version : Thunder: Durant still experiencing soreness in foot with screws inserted

More doubt got doused onto whatever hopes remain that Kevin Durant will return to the court this season, and if the Thunder star actually does come back you can’t help but to now wonder whether he will again be himself in time for it to matter.
Durant sat out practice Thursday while dealing with another bout of soreness in his surgically-repaired right foot. He already has been ruled out for Friday’s game against Atlanta.
(Story continued below...)
Thunder coach Scott Brooks repeatedly referred to what Durant is experiencing as “peaks and valleys” in his recovery. But by the sound of it, the operative word seemed to be “setback.”
Sunday will mark four weeks since Durant underwent a second surgery that was scheduled specifically to eliminate soreness in his foot. And now soreness has re-emerged. And with the calendar inside of a week of his announced timeframe to return to the lineup, there is no telling when Durant will be back.
Brooks announced last Wednesday that Durant would return to the lineup “in a week or two.” But after delivering Thursday’s news, Brooks couldn’t say whether Durant now needs a new timeline.
“I don’t know that yet,” Brooks said. “But with all of our players’ injuries we’ll always take the best interest of the players and always have a cautious approach

I'd still prefer OKC to make it. They have a better roster than the Pels and it's gonna be fun watching RWB trying to take on the whole GSW team on his own. Who isn't going to pay money to see that???

GM's for New Orleans and GSW want a lottery pick. Both teams would rather have that than a 1 and done. As for GS, they aren't winning a title this year. Too green, too much perimeter shooting and no post game to speak of.
Lol, Houston is heading for a 1 and done too. The Bearded Flop is going to run out of gas w/ no one to back him up.

I suppose you are assuming Durant and Ibaka are on that "better" roster. I wouldn't count on it. No Durant, No Ibaka, No Perkins, No Fisher, No Reggie Jackson...Let that sink in for a second. Okc's ship has sailed yet some people think they are contenders or "dangerous". C'mon now, OKC is officially a one man show. Lol, Westbrook - Adams - Kanter - DJ Augustin - Dion Waiters and whoever the hell else.
If Okc made it, GS would be thrilled. Pelicans - if Davis isn't injured (Big if), will probably give the W's a better fight at this point. Similar results though. Probably 4-1 Warriors no matter who they face.

if they hang onto KD/Westbrook they'll be able to sell way more tickets, get playoff revenue, etc

Great call out, Bum. (BTW, wow a goaltend!!!)
Like I said this was the reason, along with ADavis I felt Durant wa sno longer the #2 player in the world. I asked in the great game Anthony Davis thread if his best days are behind. Simmons just wrote in his NBA Trade value column the same thing and cautioned you dont EVER mess around and risk a player's feet.
And I get the hate OKC garners around here ... and I agree they should have protected KD from himself...but some of this is on him too.
Shame. Lebron is the only recent MVP IIRc, (Last 7 years?) that is healthy and playing.Heck if you go back to Nash I think it's even longer but I dont care about the award and could be wrong ...

This. And it's funny it's not just the chickenshit contingent of SPur fans but I keep hearing analysts say the same thing. I think both SA, and OKC are in danger come playoffs but for SA it's just danger of missing Finals (WCF or NBA) tbh and for OKC they could miss the playoffs if Davis could stay healthy.
And last as much as I Want to crown Davis (he is a beast and if Im NOLA right now LEbron is the ONLY guy I would trade him for ...and even that might not make sense) his health worries me. I have said it repeatedly ... he seems to fall awkwardly, like a teen in puberty who sprouted too high to fast.
He is so quick and athletic driving to the whole but when he gets hit he falls like a pre-teen. and I am always nervous for him. Like him and love his game and I wouldnt call him fragile ... but I dont trust him health-wise yet ...it's never anything big but he always has nagging stuff every few weeks and again he just falls in ways that makes me uncomfortable.
Hope I am dead wrong about Durant & Davis. Those are two of my favorite non-Lakers right now.

I always wonder what would have happened to Duncan without Pop when he tore his meniscus in March 2000. Of course Duncan wanted back and I think most teams would have played him to defend their title, especially since there was a good chance he was leaving in the summer anyways (like with Grant Hill). Would have been sad seeing Duncan's career end up like Brandon Roy's had Pop not said fuck if he leaves, he's still not playing hurt.

I've got a friend (true story) that has that same injury and has for over a year (from a jump in the "stan"). The goddamn screw still hurts his foot. You can see the screwhead pushing the skin on top of his foot. The doc says it will take time for scar tissue to grow around it. Sounds fucked up.

Just couldn't understand why OKC didn't throw this season, get a good draft pick, and go for next year. Both Durant and Westbrook were hurt at some point, just shut them down, let them rehab slowly while keeping them in shape. Let Ibaka develop his game, integrate Kanter and guys into the offense, and force Brooks to play guys other than those two for major minutes.
Doesn't OKC have an analytics team? Did they calculate how likely it is to destroy a player's career by rushing him back too soon?

As much as I would like to blame the players for rushing back I have to put the blame on the FO. All great players are highly competitive and want to compete regardless of how bad the situation is. I remember Duncan wanting to play in the '00 playoffs with his torn meniscus but Pop forced him against his will not to play. Even Duncan has confirmed this in interviews that he wasn't happy about it at that time but now is grateful for what Pop did.

I don't necessary disagree, but players are supposed t want to rush back and the front offices job is to evaluate the risks and reward to clear a player to play or not. That's not the job of an athlete. An athlete is there to play.

Its awesome seeing their championship hopes go down that drain. They've put all their eggs in one basket relying on that asshole Westbrook and now that franchise is gonna burn. I can't really blame OKC's front office, either, they know Durant isn't going to stay there, tbh..they tried to make a last attempt at winning a championship, which would have helped convince him to stay long-term, but the plan failed..
They'll lose both Westbrook and Durant, will have to re-tool by loading up on White players in an attempt to keep their fanbase, probably fail, and everybody will want them to relocate in 5 years or so..

Year after year Thunder making huge mistakes. No wonder Durant wants out.
The thing about the Thunder's "talent" over the past few years is they are all mostly isoballers. You don't see any ball movement, they all need the ball to be effective. Otherwise they are standing around. What kind of defensive identity do any of them have outside of Serge and his goaltending blocks?

Okie City is a shitty city with a shitty fanbase. The only reason they have a team is because of Hurricane Katrina. They don't deserve shit. Its awesome seeing their championship hopes go down that drain. They've put all their eggs in one basket relying on that asshole Westbrook and now that franchise is gonna burn. Worst city in the league, worst fan base, and worst brand. They have the look of an ABA franchise.
They're called the Thunder for fucks sake. What is this, a youth soccer league? Who approved that shit?

TMZ Sports spoke to Lil B and he told us Durant's BasedGod curse remains, and it's the reason for all of KD's current career struggles.
"He's still under it. Everyone who disses Lil B pays for it."*
According to Lil B -- who dropped a hilarious song called "F*ck Kevin Durant" last year -- there's only one way to break the curse ... Kevin has to play him in basketball.
"All he has to do is meet on the basketball court for a friendly game of 21. I'm passionate about my game, my defense, if he doesn't beat me 21-0 he should be embarrassed."
"He knows the curse is affecting him. Everyone knows. He needs to see me on the court."

It's not bad considering Oklahoma City has been the tornado capital of the entire world for the past decade or so. I mean, we have the Pelicans, had the Bobcats (have you ever seen a Bobcat? Not the most frightening creature) and the Nuggets. Wizards are Nets are fucking terrible as well.
