Manu can't hit the 3 ball tonight... good looks
No one on the Spurs can.
Just delete the entire game tape save for that Kawhi sequence in the first where he ripped the ball out in open court, took down an offensive board over two guys and then hit a runner.

Awful shooting, poor ball movement, sloppy defense. Hopefully they can regroup for tomorrow, I doubt Pop will bring in the starters unless something drastic happens and at this point he should take out Manu.

Cliff jumpers. Team just blew out a much better team than Dallas. When shots aren't falling, it can look ugly as entire offense is out of ... in the end Atlanta does not have much motivation right now ... so we beat an EC team, but WC playoff teams are dominating us ... all of them

Unrelated but Rondo is pretty awful.
We don't have HCA, only one team seeded lower than 4 has ever won the title, and other teams ahead of us have an easier schedule than us the rest of the way. Meanwhile, we're losing to inferior team's like the Knicks in March, while choking games against elite teams. There's a pretty good reason to be worried.

Atlanta was also playing their 1st game back home after a 6-game road trip..teams generally play poorly on their 1st game back after a road trip, so that win is a little skewed..

Last years Spurs were better though, no doubt about it at all. This team is frustrating this year and all over the place, no consistency at all.

I agree 100% and yes that is a huge concern. 13 games left and they still look like this? One game they appear to be back or even two or so, then they go and do this after a big 1st Q. Very frustrating team to watch this year, period.

It's not really cliff-jumping this year, tbh..
People were absolutely cliff-jumping the past 2 years when they were concerned, as this team did look dominant during the regular season and didn't have too much mileage on them..it was foolish to doubt them, as I said many times..
This year, considering all the mileage from the past 2 years + the fact that they're still playing inconsistent basketball in March, there's no reason to believe the Spurs are anything more than a wildcard contender(meaning, if everything comes together in time, they can contend), it's not cliff-jumping IMO..

This is dead on 100% accurate. Nobody is cliff jumping it's just the fact it's this late in the year and they still are playing like this with 13 games left. This is reality at this point, no if ands or butts about it.

This season:
$3 mil - Kawhi's salary
$13 mil - Tony's salary
One of 'em is the best player on the team and top ten in the league in overall impact. The other looks like a role player on most nights and has trouble defending D-Leaguers.
Blows my mind that Spurs were hesitant to give Kawhi the max but rushed to give Enrique that ridiculous $45 mil extension

How many times are they gonna learn though? I know its just the regular season but they can't be a low seed heading into the playoffs especially with how subpar they've been on the road this season. they need to get into rhythm. Pop's rotations and coaching this year isn't helping as well.

How many times are they gonna learn though? I know its just the regular season but they can't be a low seed heading into the playoffs especially with how subpar they've been on the road this season. they need to get into rhythm. Pop's rotations and coaching this year isn't helping as well.
What's with his continued love affair with Matt Bonner? I don't get it. What does Bonner actually contribute in a game these days besides supposedly spacing the floor?

I agree. Pop needs to solidify the rotation, and give the big three and Kawhi a swift kick in the ass. Trickle down to the bench.

ISO chuck it monkeyball will translate into a short playoff for the Mavericks.
The Spurs had a chance to put the Mavericks away and just farted around in the second quarter.
I am sick of the retard Monta Ellis palming the ball EVERY time he makes a move. It's a joke.
Dallas basically tries to slap a team together year after year and was lucky enough not to fail once - of course it helped that Manu Ginobili broke his elbow that year.

It's crazy how he's gone from the best post player in the league to one of the worst. He also can't hit an outside shot consistently anymore... :/
He's had spotty stretches before, as far back as the Finals in 2005 in game 4. He's still very important to the team, he's not causing problems. Errors needs to go. I give Tony the benefit of the doubt because he's paid his dues time and again, but Tony isn't the Tony we need him to be.
The truth of the matter is that this team is a system run team. There is no great individual talent. It's as if the team is one player, and when that one player isn't feeling right, he doesn't play well. Some other teams that play more isoball, those guys can have someone step up and carry the load on offense while the rest of the team struggles, because it's not hard for 4 guys to stand around and watch. The Spurs motion offense is predicated on every single player on the floor doing what they are supposed to be doing, when they are supposed to be doing it, every time down the floor. It's not happening, so it makes good players look poor since there are not that many "better best" moments on offense. On defense, I see a couple guys cranking it up and the rest just mailing it in. I saw KL make a brilliant move to keep Ellis from going around a pick, forcing him down the lane. Tim and Boris just stepped out of his way and watched him run right by. Don't want to risk fouling him. The help defense wasn't there, to say the least.
You'd hope a team like that doesn't just take nights off when they're not on a b2b, but it looked like they were doing that tonight. They just lost interest once the Mavs got up by 10 or so.
If a song plays out, then a career in something as mundane as basketball must also play out eventually. Even great music plays out, you get tired of it. You cannot watch the same movie countless times. You cannot play the game of basketball forever and be just as enthusiastic about it as you were in the beginning, at least if you have a high IQ. Low IQ types seem to remain just as focused putting the same nut on the same bolt for 35 years, never once questioning what came before or after their station. Tim isn't one of those. He cannot be that interested in playing still. Interested in the team, sure. Interested in basketball, perhaps. Interested in earning money, absolutely, but interested in playing like it's important every single night? Probably not. He'll never say that though, nor will any of them except Pop. Pop will say that the game grows tiresome.

Monta is a punk. He was bitching about having Chandler Parsons making $17M per year and he makes $8M. When Jim Carrey calls them out as selfish dogs, Monta Ellis plays like a selfish dog.

You know a true player fan by the guys who make threads simply to bring down one player (to prop up their guy). Defending a player is one thing, but constantly ragging on a guy (especially one who's been playing great lately) is another level of insecurity.

"Not consistent" is not the same that taking a swipe at him. And no, he's not been the centerpiece on offense, he's not even top 3 in FGA for the Spurs this season. He's been by far our best defender all season long, covering a lot for those old asses that you referred to in your post. He has a bigger role and he's learning.

I'll give you the Lakers series in 2004. He had two bad games in the Dallas series(2006, right), but he also had games where he scored 33, 27, and 24 respectively. 24 being in the elimination we lost.

It never is on one player. This has been debated to death. You can count Hedo in 2004 being a choker too. Manu in 2013 was putrid, despite his great game 5 and solid game 7, but the Spurs collectively sunk: Danny couldn't hit a 3 anymore, Tony was hurt/couldn't score... People say Sefolosha on Tony turned the 2012 series, but Danny again couldn't hit for shit in that series... you can go on an on...

I live here and generally the fan base loves Tony. It's just a few guys here that need to denigrate him to prop up other players (namely Kawhi). It's similar with a few on NBA Forum, but they do it to prop up Duncan's legacy (as if it doesn't speak for itself). Duncan is still a top-5 All-time player regardless of what Parker has accomplished. Kawhi is still one of the best players in the game (probably the best peremiter defender) and has almost unlimited potential.

He's still really good, but noticeably slower and less springy than last season. Not sure if we can survive the playoffs without Tim playing at least like he did last season.
And as for Timmy and the team's fire, I do believe that they've lost a bit of interest in the regular season. That's the only explanation for the roller coaster ride this season. Even when healthy, we can't seem to keep a consistent level of effort and focus out there on the court. You see it in bursts, where the ball is humming, guys are where they need to be, and shots go from "good to great." Then, inexplicably, they stop and start throwing the ball all over the place, jacking up rushed outside shots, and not giving a shit defensively. Very Jekyll an Hyde ball from our guys this year, and it's been frustrating, but I'm still trying to treasure every moment knowing that it's probably over after this year.

It's tough to gauge whether Duncan is worn out from the November/December ball when Leonard/Parker/Splitter/Mills were out, too, tbh..he carried a massive load during that stretch(along with Manu and Green), it was statistically the most difficult scheduling in NBA history IIRC(December)..

Only Leonard, Green, and Tiago before this Dallas performance look playoff ready. The rest of the team still looks out of rhythm.
Tim has been very consistent this year, the rest I agree on fully. This team is still a ways off and there is 13 games left.
Perhaps, but they have the ability to run through everyone if they care to. It's the caring to that matters. It's not like Tim doesn't want to rebound, or like he doesn't want his shots to fall. It's like they need to return to individual performance measuring instead of hiding in the group. Guys find excuses for losing. Tonight everyone went all heroball after they got behind. Marco couldn't find anyone, had Manu wide open and took the shot anyhow (hit it but still, not the best look) then they'd have stretches where it was hot potato and no one would shoot. That's fine if it translates to ball movement later, but it didn't. Someone has to step up on defense in order to get the offense going.
Then again, the Mavs just brought it.

Hypothetical scenarios and subsequent ST reactions:
Parker goes 2/8 with 3 assists (win or loss) - "Parker sucks"
Parker goes 6/7 for 15 and 5 assists for win - "Spurs are so much better when Parker isn't shooting a lot"
Parker goes 6/7 for 15 and 5 assists for loss - "Parker stagnating the offense is the reason we lost the game"
Parker goes 2/4 for 9 and 10 assists for win - "See, we won without Parker scoring."
Parker goes 2/4 for 9 and 10 assists for loss - "If Parker would have just given us his average, we would have won."
Parker goes 13/22 for 28 and 6 assists for win - "Yah but he did it against a bad defense."
Parker goes 13/22 for 28 and 6 assists for loss - "Enrique playing heroball again leads to another Spurs loss."
Parker goes 16/22 for 35 and 10 assists for win - "We all know he can play in the regular season. It's the playoffs where he always chokes."
Close enough.

I think he got his rest during the ASB, because he looked fantastic right after the ASG. I think a great deal of it is pacing himself and just not getting up for some games. When he's dialed in/feeling good (Cavs game) he's still one of the best bigs in the league, but when he's not things get really ugly and he looks every bit his age. After watching Timmy all these years I can always tell how engaged he is/how his knees feel by seeing how he handles his post-ups and how aggressively he finishes at the rim.
One of the reasons why he shoots that awful one-handed fallaway with his right is because it allows him to plant on his good knee (the R one), so if he's avoiding the hook over his left shoulder, throwing up soft layups, and leaving his jumper short, then I'd guess his knee is acting up that particular night.
Offense aside, the biggest dropoff I've seen from Timmy this year is his individual defense. I've never seen him get scored on one-on-one as much as this season.

As far as the Tony hate, does it get a little overboard, sure, but I will say the Tony Parker fans rarely cop to Parker playing poorly. They tend to blame/bash another player (Manu or Kawhi) or post how Tony was great during ______ or how this team needs him to succeed etc.
As much as Malik and apal and others are big Kawhi fans at least they don't constantly make excuses, like the stretch when Kawhi was awful.
And the Manu fans were willing to admit that Manu cost us the 2013 title.
Maybe that's a wrong observation, but that's the way it appears to me.

Ugh, that was a third quarter from hell. Spurs kept turning the ball over, and the Mavs kept shooting what felt like 70% or 80% (they cooled off a bit toward the end of the quarter, I think). But overall, the Spurs just weren't sharp and didn't seem willing to put in a consistent effort.
Parker was worryingly bad, but then again, no one really played a good, clean game.
