Oklahoma City Thunder star Russell Westbrook has been on a triple-double tear of late and the only thing that could stop him from another one on Sunday was an NBA ruling on Monday

:lol They should go back and check all his games.

Sucks that the league is targeting him, tbh..all of a sudden, they're actually checking the validity of box score stats, when in reality, the stat keepers miss at least 3-5 per game:lol..

2nd time in a week this Kevin Love-like statpadder been caught: http://espn.go.com/nba/story/_/id/12481095/russell-westbrook-notches-another-triple-double-denies-lobbying-clinching-rebound

OKLAHOMA CITY -- Russell Westbrook (http://espn.go.com/nba/player/_/id/3468/russell-westbrook) recorded his sixth triple-double in eight games Friday night, a feat sealed after a quick conference at the scorer's table awarded him a 10th rebound.

Westbrook had unlatched his mask and walked to the Oklahoma City Thunder (http://espn.go.com/nba/team/_/name/okc/oklahoma-city-thunder) bench with 2:13 remaining in their blowout of the Minnesota Timberwolves (http://espn.go.com/nba/team/_/name/min/minnesota-timberwolves), sitting with 29 points, nine rebounds and 12 assists. He was going to be left to watch the final couple minutes a single rebound short of a triple-double, but he looked over at the Thunder's official scorekeepers, holding up his arm.

"Tip?" he said, nodding his head. "Tip?"

Around the time the buzzer sounded on the Thunder's 113-99 win (http://scores.espn.go.com/nba/recap?gameId=400579263), Westbrook was awarded an offensive rebound, noted at 2:35 when Westbrook went up to tip back a missed 3 by D.J. Augustin (http://espn.go.com/nba/player/_/id/3415/dj-augustin). Westbrook was given a missed shot on it.

Westbrook denied after the game that he was campaigning for the rebound.

"Uhh, no," Westbrook said.

Pressed on the subject, he said, "No," unleashing a trademark glare.

How is that stat-padding? He's hurting his FG% and adding another FGA, which is the stat his haters love to discuss, tbh:lol..

He's such an alpha <3..

Alot of players are focused on stats ...how is this different than Lebron or Durant being concerned with their efficiency numbers? In sports, stats get you PAID. It is ugly when it is done shamelessly like Ricky
Davis or when Lebron tried to get the one at MSG (though I didnt mind that one much)

I just wish more players were honest about it.

Its fine to care about stats but typically if you want your stats you earn them and don't go beg the scorers table for another reound because the ball happened to brush your fingertip on the way to the opponent grabbing a board :lol I'm pretty sure thats Ricky Davis level of shameless stat chasing.

If he's asking the scorers table about it, then hes purposely going out there trying to get them.

He knew exactly which tip was not counted as a rebound, meaning he was watching his stats during the game and noticed they didn't count that at the moment it happened.

I think it speaks to his mindset when his team is barely clinging to 8th place in the playoff race that he's concerned about stats. If they had a playoff spot (god forbid a home court in the 1st) locked up, I'd be much more willing to look the other way.

But consider the thought process -- you have a team struggling to make the playoffs with a bunch of new players on the floor trying to learn the system, and then your superstar is talking to the scorer's table about his last missed shot instead of playing defense and communicating with teammates about the set and assignments. It's a terrible precedent to set, unless Westbrook has completely given up on this season, which would be understandable. Westbrook is basically guaranteed a max at this point though, so the only reason I could think of him fighting so hard for that triple double is if he's attempting to make a case for going elsewhere in free agency.

Russ and Harden aren't friends, despite how they act when they meet on the court. Russ doesn't want James to get a MVP. It says James should have been starting in OKC and that James is a better player than Russ. Russ wants the MVP also because Kevin got it last year, and Russ is 10x more concerned about competing against Kevin than competing for a title. He's made that obvious since the get go.

Now that KD is out, it appears to the untrained eye that Russ has stepped his game up, but he's only got more carte blanche now to stat pad. Sure he's a hell of a player if he actually played to win instead of playing for stats, but he doesn't.

Odd dichotomy, a guy who could be the best in the league perhaps due to his tenacity, skill and athleticism, reduced to a stats guy while he perhaps still have a team around him capable of a decent playoff showing.
