Sí TV Challenges Conservative Talk Show Hosts To Spend a Weekend in the Urban Jungle


Los Angeles- CA – As it kicks off production for the second season of Urban Jungle 2: South Central, Sí TV has issued a challenge to several conservative talk show hosts. In an ad in the June 8th issue of The Hollywood Reporter, Sí TV challenges Bill O’Reilly, Tucker Carlson, Rush Limbaugh, Ann Coulter, Sean Hannity, Lou Dobbs, and Pat Buchanan to spend one weekend in the Urban Jungle house, located in South Central Los Angeles.

Urban Jungle is a reality show that pushed the boundaries of the “reality” genre by transplanting a group of privileged suburban kids into the barrio to experience life as immigrants.

“It’s easy to take an anti-immigrant position from an ivory tower,” says Sí TV Co-founder and Chairman Jeff Valdez, who grew up in the housing projects of Pueblo, CO. “We want to give these journalists a chance to find out what it’s really like to live in the hood and see if they come out with an appreciation of immigrant issues and challenges.”

Urban Jungle 2: South Central began taping this week on the alleged “mean streets” of South Central Los Angeles with a new batch of sheltered twenty-somethings and a whole new set of challenges plus a few surprises.

Returning producer Roni Menendez and camera crews will converge on the tiny two-bedroom, one-bath home to follow a new batch of 13 privileged suburbanites as they adapt to life as immigrants in South Central L.A., a predominantly Central American and African American neighborhood. For three weeks contestants will face harsh manual labor when they are forced to pick strawberries in the fields and compete against each other in a paleta (popsicle) selling contest, graffiti removal, selling oranges on freeway off ramps, and cleaning houses in Beverly Hills.

“Our first season of Urban Jungle was wildly successful,” says Valdez. “Many of the contestants had life-altering experiences and to this day still visit the community. We’re hoping that a weekend in the house will also enlighten these political hardliners by exposing them to a drastically different way of life and in the process uncover the humanity of the working-class immigrant.”

In the second season participants will not only take on labor intensive jobs but will be expected to volunteer their time working with children at the neighborhood community center. With the help of, Pete Esquivel, Monique Marvez, and Thea Vidal, three street-wise yet benevolent Padrinos, (Counselors) our contestants will try to adapt and survive in the Urban Jungle in a quest for the $50,000 in cash and prizes, and perhaps learn a thing or two about life on the other side of the tracks.

The new participants include:
Georgie Donovan, 29, Winnetka, CA, the daughter of a wealthy South African family.
Jeremy Darrah, 23, Los Angeles, CA, an anti-war ex-Marine who doesn’t mince words when it comes to politics.
Michael Shackelford, 28, San Antonio, TX, a conservative neat-freak who considers himself a metrosexual and has a hard time being around “minorities” even though he’s Filipino.
Jason Lampley, 23, San Pedro, CA, a highly opinionated surfer and musician who has no patience for “stupid fake” people.
Frances Leann Walls, 23, Springdale, AR, a small-town country girl who has never been exposed to city life.
Vanessa Macias, 24, San Antonio, TX, a Texas princess with an attitude who works as a local TV personality.
Aubrey Jangraw, 22, Woodside, NY, a social butterfly who has lived a sheltered life and spends summers at her family’s Italian villa.
Mark Harley, 21, San Rafael, CA, a quintessential jock with a nose for politics.
Kristi Swartz, 24, Burbank, CA, a tough-talking straight-shooter who loves to party.
Tristan Robinson, Los Angeles, CA, 26, an eccentric playboy clothing designer who lives on Los Angeles’ west side.
Erik Rivera, 23, New Rochelle, NY, a comedian of Puerto Rican heritage who has never been to the barrio and lives in suburbia with mom and dad.
Afradet Zuri, Austin, 22, TX, a sexually experimental student of Middle-Eastern background who has likes to “tell it like it is.”
Vanessa Van Vleck, 23, San Diego, CA, a controversial contestant from Urban Jungle: Season One who returns for a second chance at the prize.



This article is pretty old so I don't know if its for the fall season or the maybe its already been on over the summer... The concept of the show sounds cool and of course I would watch it for Vanessa ;) Do we get SiTv here in SaTown??? If so what chan is it on TWC???

The latest episode of Urban Jungle starts with the housemates going to a night club and getting drunk and horny. S.A. native Vanessa Macias Ballou, who most remember as the curvaceous spokeswoman on World Car ads, is embarking on a new TV adventure.

Starting Saturday, you can see Ballou, 29, as host of a locally produced travel show. "Vamos!" will air at 6 p.m. Saturdays on Fox affiliate KABB. Executive-produced by Luis MuÒoz (formerly of KENS' "Great Day SA" and now with Bauhaus Media Group), the half-hour will showcase spectacular Mexican resorts — destinations like Canc˙n, Playa del Carmen and Cabo San Lucas.

First stop: Cozumel. There, Ballou went scuba diving, swam with giant stingrays and ate exotic dishes. The Incarnate Word High School grad described the half-hour as more "fun reality show" than travelogue.

"It has evolved," Ballou told me over chips and queso at the Josephine Street CafÈ. "Weird things happen to me when I travel."

For instance, no matter where she goes, Ballou said, she brings rain. The minute she hit the water in Cozumel, she said, it started to pour. "I swear to you; I'm cursed," she said.

Moreover, she may be on a travel show, but she hates the process — packing, getting on a plane, etc. "If I could teleport, it would be perfect."

Don't expect a polished hostess. "I have fallen in the salty water and come up looking like a drowned rat. On vacation, you look like hell."

She's a self-described worry wart. "I constantly think I'll be abducted; I won't even park next to a van with sliding doors."

First thing she asked resorts in Cozumel and Playa del Carmen was about the swine flu. "Thankfully, they told me they weren't at all affected by that."

Viewers may remember her as "Daring Vanessa" on "Great Day SA" five years ago, where she took on challenges such as skydiving. However, she was spooked recently by one experience: horseback riding in Playa del Carmen through swamps that reportedly contained crocodiles.

Though known for her looks, Ballou says she was "a nerd" at the University of North Texas, where she studied broadcast news/political science. She also was a fervent human/animal rights advocate.

Her "favorite job ever"? Writing speeches. She had experience doing just that while working for former and current state Sens. Frank Madla and Carlos Uresti.

Ballou also loves sports; a fond memory was working with Don Harris as a sports intern at our local NBC affiliate. She even married a sports anchor — Bob Ballou, the former weekend sportscaster on KENS who currently does sports for Austin's CBS affiliate.

She can't complain about her current gig, however. "What's not to like about spending nine days in Puerto Vallarta?" she said, adding that she'd love to see the half-hour go national — a la the Brooke Burke-hosted E! travel show, "Wild On . . ."

Ballou certainly has had moments that could be classified as "wild." While learning to surf in Port Aransas for the "Close to Home" segment on "Vamos!" she inadvertently "mooned everyone on the beach," she recalled. "There was such a strong current. I nearly lost my bikini bottom."

Will this be on the show? "I believe so," Ballou said. "They're going to find a way to pixilate it."

Vanessa Macias -- part of the Dating Divorcees team on last season's "Amazing Race" -- was arrested in Texas early Friday morning for driving while intoxicated ... TMZ has learned.

32-year-old Macias -- who came in 4th place on "Race" -- was pulled over by the San Antonio Police Department around 2 AM on October 26. During the stop, officers claim they detected the presence of alcohol.

Macias was arrested and hauled to a nearby station where she was booked for misdemeanor DWI -- and posed for an extremely wide-eyed mug shot.

Macias was released a few hours later after posting $1,000 bond.
