Its a good time to do it. They are already recovering. I doubt they ever go this low again. Im betting on it. Cresco Labs is my biggest holding and its ridiculously cheap right now.

However, former Goldman Sachs hedge fund manager, Raoul Pal, says he’s sticking to his $250,000 price target because ‘rocket fuel’ is coming, MarketWatch reports.

“I think BTC goes well above $250,000 in the next 12 months and ETH [Ethereum] well above $20,000.”

Ethereum ETHUSD, -1.38%, the second most popular cryptocurrency behind Bitcoin, is also down almost 20% from last week’s all-time high of $4,382.

Pal says a long-awaited U.S. exchange-traded fund should be announced by September. It should boost digital assets and lift prices across the whole crypto market “due to new sources of demand from RIA’s [registered investment advisers] and asset managers," he said.

On the tech side, at least with Bitcoin, the design is such that monetary emission becomes more and more scarce as more coins are mined (over time). It is balanced in such a way that very early on inflation outpaces scarcity, which is desirable in many ways. Since the coin is easy to come by, it can be spread around quickly, and that's always a desirable early on in adopting currency. Over time, scarcity overpasses inflation, mined coins are harder to come by and thus the value of coin stock gets higher and higher. This obviously happens only if the coin is desirable as a monetary instrument.

The system has two weaknesses, one currently more real than the other. The first one is that since transactions are based on majority consensus to avoid double-spend, should a bad actor gain control of almost half the network nodes, they could approve double-spend transactions, thus 'creating money'.

The second issue is that the balance of scarcity/inflation is based on proof-of-work that relies on the intractability of reversing hashing functions. In the bitcoin case it's SHA256, in other currencies, different algos. In general, these are well known algorithms with no vulnerabilities. As the network increases the difficulty on the proof of work, more brute forcing of values need to happen, thus slowing the monetary emission rate and increasing scarcity.

However, a shift to quantum computing can make these hash algos technically reversible. They wouldn't be reversible per se in the sense that you would work from the desired result back to the unhashed data, but because quantum computers allow you to explore processing paths in parallel, you can effectively brute force the hash in parallel, until you obtain the desired result.

IRS whammy announced

Coming off one of the most tumultuous days (https://heisenbergreport.com/2021/05/19/up-in-smoke-crypto-disaster-sparks-anger-incredulity/) in recent memory, the cryptosphere could have done without a headline featuring the letters “I” “R” and “S,” all capitalized and arranged in that order. Alas, when it rains…

“As with cash transactions, businesses that receive cryptoassets with a fair-market value of more than $10,000 would be reported on,” Treasury said Thursday, in a 22-page report detailing proposals for more stringent tax enforcement.

“The IRS operates outdated systems and lacks the ability to fully take advantage of the benefits of more modern technology due to its resource constraints,” the report said, adding that,

Noncompliance has been exacerbated by enhanced opportunities to shield income from tax liability, and even from audits. These opportunities are particularly available for those in the top end of the income distribution who can avoid taxes through sophisticated strategies such as offshoring, creating complex partnership structures, or moving taxable assets into the crypto economy.

The word “crypto” comes up 17 times (netting out footnotes), but the gist of it is captured in a single paragraph. Namely, this one (from the report):

The President’s proposal includes additional resources for the IRS to address the growth of cryptoassets. Despite constituting a relatively small portion of business income today, cryptocurrency transactions are likely to rise in importance in the next decade, especially in the presence of a broad-based financial account reporting regime. Within the context of the new financial account reporting regime, cryptocurrencies and cryptoasset exchange accounts and payment service accounts that accept cryptocurrencies would be covered.https://heisenbergreport.com/2021/05/20/24-hours-after-collapse-crypto-hears-three-dreaded-letters/

Disagree. The reason they are raising the volume of cracking down, taxing, regulating it is because they want in at a cheaper price!!! Elon can't stop the bitcoin train. And one or two country can't stop it either. Once the regulatody news fades off this will go back up hard.

INSIDE THE RISE AND FALL (AND RISE AND FALL) OF SHIT COINS

Welcome to the era of “pump and dump,” where investors bummed about missing out on getting rich with Bitcoin are being taken for rides by online jokesters pushing tokens with nonsensical names and no clear value.

touting FEG as the opportunity of a lifetime (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kX_FGdnFLtI&ab_channel=UPNEXTCRYPTO), dissecting the company’s white paper, and :lol Feed Every Gorilla

waxing prophetically about it being the “coolest, newest (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=trm3aBLspck) crypto” imaginable.

On Saturday, May 8, after a few weeks of tepid movement, FEG took off into the stratosphere as hundreds of thousands of random investors (who had been enticed to do so on all of those platforms) started to buy the coin. Over about a three-day period, the value of the token rose exponentially (https://www.coingecko.com/en/coins/feg-token).

Then, on Thursday around 1 p.m., the value fell like a mudslide, and over the next three hours all of those anonymous investors who had touted the value of FEG for the past few weeks off-loaded about $120 million worth of profits.

What happened to FEG was an orchestration called a “pump and dump,”

where a group of random and anonymous crypto traders pump up the value of a new cryptocurrency across the entire internet,

so that hundreds of thousands of unsuspecting wannabe investors, hoping this is their opportunity to get rich quick,

buy hundreds of millions of dollars of this new coin,

only to watch their fortunes vanish when the pumpers collectively “dump” their share, and make off with the money

Bitcoin and Ethereum Are Dead (And Their Honest Investors Know It)

The $1+ trillion concept is brilliant, but it won’t end well

1. It’s already old technology

2. People are realizing crypto isn’t a hedge against inflation

3. It’s expensive

People hate transaction fees.
It’s why people ditched Paypal for money transfers and moved to Wise.

4. The bigs will do what they always do

The top 4% of hodlers own 95% of all Bitcoin (https://insights.glassnode.com/bitcoin-supply-distribution/).

5. It’s horrible for the environment

Bitcoin is a brutal energy hog, generating 22+ million metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions per year (https://www.nbcnews.com/tech/tech-news/big-bitcoins-carbon-footprint-rcna920) —

the equivalent of 6.7 million cars (https://oee.nrcan.gc.ca/corporate/statistics/neud/dpa/calculator/ghg-calculator.cfm).

If Bitcoin was a country, it would be the 9th biggest electricity consumer on the planet (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electric_energy_consumption).

Aristotle thought so. Using money to make money is the mode of getting wealth "most contrary to nature" and he viewed interest on debt as morally wrong.

Isn't his company Microstrategy a BIG player in bitcoin - he's seriously biased - why would anyone take his opinion seriously?

do you think that what is says, that China blocking crypto mining in preparation for creating its own crypto currency, and taking China miners out of the game, makes sense?

do you think he is the only one with that observation?

I think it has a solid foundation, and I think NFTs are going to take off big time soon and with it ETH will go up as well since ether is needed for the transaction. plus it's made me a solid return already, despite the recent dip from its all time high. give it a few years and it'll be above 10k a coin, imho. maybe sooner

I'm not putting my life savings in crypto but I have invested about $20K and it is hovering around $35K even after this past week. In that same time I invested similar amounts in the stock market and I am up may $7K. I do plan on pulling out of crypto though because I think it comes crashing down. My problem is I don't have the time to pay attention to either market so its all kind of a guessing game here. I will say that I am losing money in my pot stocks right now. CC screwed me there, but I'm in it for the long haul now.

I was screwing around with my comment about you. I bought 500 shares of Cresco Labs in early March. I typically sit on my stocks and rarely sale because I use very little of my income investing. When I started saving was going to buy Amazon and Google and they were $400 or something each. Invested in some companies that sell groceries (Pepsi, Coke, Quaker, Nestle, Danona, and Monsanto or something) as I figured they were super safe. They were safe in terms of not losing value but I literally gained like $20 in two years lol. Still have them but have like $6-7 in crypto and its been annoying as hell. This is easy to dodge.

Move your bitcoin.to a private wallet ASAP.

Then you have option to spend.that bitcoin for goods (IRS will never b able to track this) or sell them overseas for cash (IRs would never know if done right)

I guess "receives" being the key word or is it "this tax year"? (as in what happens when there were no IRS rules)?I don't give out tax advice, due caution and personal preference, I guess.

Good luck!

When looking for someone to launder your Bitcoin, it's important to make sure they drop sick beats. Props to Heather Morgan -- aka Razzlekhan -- for 1) rocking the fanny pack and 2) appearing to implicate herself in the scam halfway through the song.

The only question is whether this will be a feature film or an HBO Max/FX limited series.

Prosecutors said on Tuesday the illegal proceeds were spent on a variety of things, from gold and non-fungible tokens to 'absolutely mundane things such as purchasing a Walmart gift card for $500.'

Bipartisan Senate Proposal Raises Alarm Over El Salvador's Bitcoin Adoption

Senators Jim Risch, Bob Menendez, and Bill Cassidy's Accountability for Cryptocurrency in El Salvador (ACES) Act (https://www.foreign.senate.gov/press/ranking/release/risch-menendez-cassidy-introduce-legislation-to-mitigate-risks-of-el-salvadors-adoption-of-bitcoin) would require a State Department report on mitigating risks to the U.S. financial system from El Salvador's adoption of Bitcoin as legal tender (https://www.coindesk.com/policy/2022/02/16/bipartisan-senate-proposal-raises-alarm-over-el-salvadors-bitcoin-adoption/).

CoinDesk reports: "El Salvador recognizing Bitcoin (BTC) as official currency opens the door for money laundering cartels and undermines U.S. interests," said Bill Cassidy (R-La.). "If the United States wishes to combat money laundering and preserve the role of the dollar as a reserve currency of the world, we must tackle this issue head on." If passed, the bill would require the State Department to report on a laundry list of subjects with respect to El Salvador and Bitcoin, including the flow of remittances from the U.S. to El Salvador, bilateral and international efforts to combat transnational illicit activities, and the potential for reduced use by El Salvador of the greenback.

The move quickly drew a partly comic, partly angry response from (https://twitter.com/nayibbukele/status/1494066643625988107) El Salvador President Nayib Bukele: "OK boomers ... You have zero jurisdiction on a sovereign and independent nation. We are not your colony, your back yard or your front yard. Stay out of our internal affairs. Don't try to control something you can't control."

What's appealing is that it's decentralized. ie: monetary emission is well understood and dwindles over time, appreciating the currency.

But being unregulated means trading in the currency is basically the wild west. From artificial bubbles, to zero protection for the investment, etc.

Ric Edelman (founder of huge financial advisor company) is leaving his company to go HUGE into bitcoin and block chain technology. I've been listening to his radio talk show for years now and this guy is sold on block chain technology and AGING (especially Alzheimer's, SS, preparing for retirement, etc.). He's written a lot of books - The Truth about Money, The Truth about Your Future and upcoming The Truth about Crypto.

I agree with much of his financial advice - except getting as big a mortgage as you can - I wanted to be able to live on 1 income (that was back in the day - don't think that's possible these days with house prices the way they are).

IMHO, it's not going to crash to zero - too many big players are invested. But yes, you should have ignored your wife and sold when it was in the mid 60s - AND be buying at half price now - your wife sounds just like my husband who will never sell - not at $19k, not at $38k, not at $62k.

I got most of my original investment out so I'm not bag holding per se. But yeah. Another instance when I should have listened to my gut lol.

Those big players invested are waiting to unload ASAP they just can't all at once or it'll plummet to zero like i said lol.

It looks like there is some potential FDIC coverage though if you're holding it as cash. Which I don't know how that works in a crypto account.

This is all true. I don't know at what point Crypto becomes too big to fail. Maybe they're already there.
But in the end, everything is potentially worth nothing if the whole thing crashes. I suppose you could make a case for hard metals (bend over). But
really, it's probably food, guns and ammo.
