I listened to this band called The Veils for a long time since their album came out last year. They are a great band but they have this song that with the current events is really weird to read the lyrics...

Here they are...the song is called..The Valleys Of New Orleans

Someday the walls will tremble with terrible flames here
‘Til the mouth of some hurricane sweeps them away
And If I had either love or fortune I’d shed them both here
But those cards are so rarely played I’ve hid them away

The valleys of New Orleans
The valleys of New Orleans

Oh Stanley I’ve heard you laughing your way around here
There’s a game that I wish to play, so slow down
I found another in Sidneys’ pocket, she knows my name
And she says she wants to drive all night in the dark through all

The valleys of New Orleans
The valleys of New Orleans

Sidney says God is watching so don’t fear now
She says he’s bound to come, give him time
Her mouth is the taste of sea salt and saddled rum
She speaks in a vagrant language I’d heard once in a film about

The valleys of New Orleans
The valleys of New Orleans
The valleys of New Orleans
The valleys of New Orleans

What? New Orleans is in trouble? The levees could be breached?

Unheard of.

Maybe the song writer is a prophet.

Manny and I were listening to the Best of Poco in the car on the way to volunteering on Sunday, and this song came on:

In the heart of the night
In the cool southern rain
There's a full moon in sight
Shining down on the Pontchartrain

And the river she rises
Like she used to do
She's so full of surprises
She reminds me of you
In the heart of the night

There's a nightbird singing
Right on through till the dawn
And the streets are still ringing
With people carrying on

It's been so long waiting
Just to be here again
Anticipating
All the time I could spend
In the heart of the night down in New Orleans
In the heart of the night down in New Orleans

And I trust in your love never falling down
And I trust in your love
Just like I do in this town never falling down

And I'm so glad to be back in New Orleans
Please don't wake me, don't shake me,
If this is only just a dream
It's the only place I can face that feels so right
Below that Dixie moon and loving you
In the Heart of the Night

Apparently everyone and their mother has written a song about New Orleans that somehow relates to rain and/or flooding and/or destruction.

Anyone notice the song Aaron Neville sung on the NBC fundraiser? It was written by Randy Newman.

Louisiana 1927 lyrics

What has happened down here is the wind have changed
Clouds roll in from the north and it started to rain
Rained real hard and rained for a real long time
Six feet of water in the streets of Evangeline

The river rose all day
The river rose all night
Some people got lost in the flood
Some people got away alright
The river have busted through cleard down to Plaquemines
Six feet of water in the streets of Evangelne

CHORUS
Louisiana, Louisiana
They're tyrin' to wash us away
They're tryin' to wash us away
Louisiana, Louisiana
They're tryin' to wash us away
They're tryin' to wash us away

President Coolidge came down in a railroad train
With a little fat man with a note-pad in his hand
The President say, ";Little fat man isn't it a shame what the river has
done
To this poor crackers land.";
