A student at Duke University has admitted to hanging a noose on a tree on campus that sparked protests throughout the week.

The college announced that the individual has been identified as a result of its investigation but the person's name has not been released.

What, if any, punishment the student will face remains unknown.

"The student is no longer on campus," Duke spokesman Keith Lawrence said in a statement. "The student will be subject to Duke’s student conduct process."

I currently live in San Diego. Sometimes when I'm shopping or doing cardio at the gym, I look around and ponder to myself: how are there so many Hispanics/Filipinos around? Dark hair, skin, features. Granted there are variations unlike black darkness but it just shocks and to an extent saddens me. Start feeling like they carry an unreverse-able disease. No-way their children will ever attain light features. And I look at some of my non-White guy friends in serious relationships with White girls and I wonder if the girls realize their children will be very little if at all like them. I remember strangers in public use to come up and tell my father and I how similar we looked. I didn't think much of it at the time because I didn't notice color.

I think that's why whenever I'm in Poland, I almost cry. All the beautiful children with their innocent glistening light eyes and angelic hair/skin. My White GF remarked it's not so easy to find a White guy in San Diego, when I asked why girls do it. I recognize most Americans are mutts so handing down their ancestry doesn't apply, and I'm aware not everyone has the same tastes (heck I was into Asian girls in the past) but at a certain age (late 20's, early 30's) how could a good looking White girl with light features not want to have a beautiful angelic child? You really gonna have a brown, filipino or black kid? It's a globalized World. You don't have to settle for the person in your hometown, you can easily connect to a White guy/girl all over the World.

Brittany Clerkley and a group of about 90 adults and teens were wrapping up a college tour. On their way back to Flint, their bus had mechanical issues. They ended up spending the night at the Econo Lodge in Live Oak, Florida.

Coordinator Blake Odum says right after dinner, is when the trip took a much different and disturbing tone. "It was owned by white people. And they started taking pictures of all the kids as we were walking in and out of the hotel," said student Melissa Blacque. "I heard one of the ladies, she said, 'If I see one more of them, I'm calling the law,'" Odum said.

Blacque says the students were peaceful, but felt uncomfortable at the hotel. "They were calling us the N word and called Blake the N word. We were just like 'whoa,'" Blacque said.

In practice, "potentials criminals" translates to "African Americans."

According to the Times, officers have figured out a way to use "an obscure subsections of a Florida statute that outlaws things most people have tried on a bike, like riding with no light or carrying a friend on the handlebars."

The resulting statistics are striking. Eight out of 10 bike riders stopped in Tampa from 2003 year to 2015 were black, meaning they received 79 percent of the bike tickets despite making up a quarter of the city's population. But the narratives that go along with these numbers are nearly unbelievable.

Here are some of the stories from the Times's report on the study, which analyzed over 10,000 bike tickets issued over a period of 12 years:



After a 56-year-old black man rode his bike through a stop sign while pulling a lawnmower, police handcuffed him while they confirmed that he had not stolen the lawnmower, but borrowed it from a friend.
Police confiscated the bike of a 54-year-old black man because he didn't have a receipt proving that it belonged to him.
A 63-year-old black man was stopped for not having lights on his bike, when he did actually have lights on his bike.
After a 33-year-old man ran a stop sign on a bike without a light, police officers punched, kicked, and choked him until he was unconscious. Later, the officers explained to a judge why they were suspicious that he may have had a weapon on him: "He was in a high-crime area," and "He had large clothing." ("Was he black, too?" the judge asked. She dismissed the criminal charges.)


"It's possible blacks in some areas use bicycles more than whites. But that's not what's driving the disparity," the paper concluded. "Police are targeting certain high-crime neighborhoods and nitpicking cyclists as a way to curb crime. They hope they will catch someone with a stolen bike or with drugs or that they will scare thieves away."

This isn't just speculation. A 2007 department memo uncovered by the Times outlining what officers called "Bicycle Blitzkrieg" made it plain that goal was "to aggressively enforce bicycle infractions ... where there has been increased criminal activity ... opening more avenues to make arrests."

Most of the police force and several officials resigned after the small town of Parma, Missouri elected its first African American woman as mayor, reported KFVS.

Tyrus Byrd, a former city clerk, was officially sworn in as mayor on Tuesday after beating incumbent Randall Ramsey. Ramsey had served as mayor of Parma for 37 years under two terms.

The outgoing mayor said five of the city's six police officers submitted their resignation, citing "safety concerns." Parma's city attorney, clerk and water treatment supervisor also quit.

Some Parma residents say they aren't worried about safety now that the police force has shrunk. "I think it's pretty dirty they all quit without giving her a chance," resident Martha Miller told KFVS. "But I don't think they hurt the town any by quitting, because who needs six police for 740 people."

One day after a Michael Brown memorial tree was planted in Ferguson, Missouri, someone appears to have slashed it in half.



A memorial stone placed at the foot of the tree is also missing, according to a local news channel, which was planted by members of the Black Caucus of the American Library Association.

Caucus members had planted the tree in January Wabash Memorial Park on Saturday. But just one day later, community members found it cut. Police say they have no idea who desecrated the memorial.

Residents of the city were shocked.

Authorities say they found a black man hanging from a tree in Greene County, Ga. Monday morning.

A spokesperson for the Greensboro Police Department tells News Radio 106.7's Nathalie Pozo that a 43-year-old man was found hanging from the tree just after 11 a.m. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation say Roosevelt Champion III was found dead in a brushy area behind a home in the 600 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Drive.

Investigators say a witness spotted the man and called authorities. Authorities say the man does not live at the house where it happened.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is assisting the Greensboro Police in the death investigation. Authorities have not yet determined the cause of death.

Rise in Suicide by Black Children Surprises Researchers

The suicide rate among black children has nearly doubled since the early 1990s, while the rate for white children has declined,

Suicide rates are almost always lower among blacks than among whites of any age. But the study, published in the journal JAMA Pediatrics on Monday, found that the rate had risen so steeply among black children — to 2.54 from 1.36 per one million children — that it was substantially above the rate among white children by the end of the period. The rate for white children fell to 0.77 per million from 1.14.

It was the first time a national study found a higher suicide rate for blacks than for whites of any age group, researchers noted.

The way the children were dying seemed to provide some clues. Dr. Christine Moutier, chief medical officer for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (http://www.afsp.org/preventing-suicide), who read the study, pointed out that gun deaths among white boys had gone down by about half while staying about the same for black boys, signaling that gun safety education may not be reaching black communities as effectively as white ones.

Suicides by hanging, on the other hand, roughly tripled among black boys, while remaining virtually unchanged for whites.
