Who and why?

Kawhi leonard because he is by far the best defender in the league!

Should be Kawhi, but it'll probably be DeAndre fucking Jordan, tbh:lol..

Draymond isn't that bad of a pick either, but we all know this isn't going to the most deserving players ( kawhi and draymond)..this will go to Jordan.

^back to back truth bombs

The Starters on NBATV chose Draymond. Their four candidates were Draymond, Jordan, Gobert and Gasol. :lol

Gobert has been the best defensive player in the league IMO, but he hasn't played enough to warrant the award..

Who? Kawhi...
Why? Because he's the best defender in the league...

The Jordan talk doesn't make sense to me outside of the usual hype based on raw, antiquated numbers IMO..

There has been an abundance of Chris Paul-defense talk, along with the Jordan hype, yet the Clippers are the 16th fucking ranked D in the NBA:lol..even if you surrounded 2 alleged DPOY-level and All-NBA 1st D-level with atrocious defensive players, they still shouldn't rank below the league average, defensively..

Dwight Howard's Orlando teams were loaded with terrible defenders, yet they still finished in the top 3 every year due to Howard's presence(which is what people are arguing in favor of Jordan), for example..

Why have these kinds of polls on a team forum? It's like asking Oklahomos who the MVP should be.

Pelicans have the 22nd ranked defense in the league and one of the worst interior defenses in the league, despite having Asik at C and Davis at PF, tbh..would be an even worse choice than Jordan..

Funny that you would say that....

The thing is..Kawhi not only is an elite defender at the most important position, he can also bring it on the other end too against the guy he's guarding to wear them down when they try to run offense against him.

Gobert is a lock to win it next year if he stays healthy, tbh, hopefully Kawhi can get his this year..

The hype can carry over into the following year, see: Tyson Chandler in 2012, winning an undeserved DPOY due to joining the Knicks + the impact he had on the Mavs' D the previous season..Gobert is fully deserving, though, he's a lock for next year IMO..

Not sure about that since they play in a tough conference. Jazz Record will probably ruin his chances, imo.

They're going to be a playoff team next year IMO, and Gobert's metrics are ridiculous..opponents are shooting 39% against him inside IIRC..

Their D will probably rank in the top 5, if they stay healthy..

i agree... really like their frontcourt of Gobert-Favors-Hayward, and Hood looks like he can be a good 2-guard (role player though)... they're still weak at the point (Exum and Burke :lol), but they've actually had a pretty good record since the Kantzer trade

NBA should cancel the award, in that case. Clippers are trash defensively and he is overrated. He's above average but not elite defensively imo.

Kawhi by a landslide. DeContract getting it would just cement the award as a completely useless "Who Stat-Padded the Most Regular Season Blocks and Rebounds" Award.

Biased but Kawhi and Green are the two that deserve it most. Maybe Kawhi's 24 minute 7 steals game will turn some heads. If Kawhi had played 10 more games then I would feel better about his chances.

KAWHI should win it

who won in 03/04 or 04/05 when ron and ben wallace was out with suspensions...i think 1 of them did win it even with the suspensions, so shouldnt it apply to players who miss 20 games?

dpoy voting is different to mvp voting, missing plenty of games u can still win those minor awards....

Ron Artest is the only perimeter player to win the award in the last 15 years. Speaking of Artest, how good of a defensive player was he in his prime?

Rudy Gobbert has been the best defensive player in the league this year, tbh. Advanced statistics support that. But he won't win it, because his team is shit and he hasn't played a ton of minutes. Kawhi would be my pick because of that. But he wont win it either. Will likely go to Jordan or Green imho.

Kawhi or Gobert should win it but because of stupid pre-established, unwritten ideas about what qualifies one to winning any of these awards means it will probably go to Draymond Green. The media is gonna hand GSW the MVP, COY, and DPOY, watch

True, but unfortunately for Mamba his contributions are the kind of stuff that don't show up on the stat sheet.

7 steals vs the best team in the W/L column in a game the Spurs really needed is why kawhi should win.
