I believe Tony Parker and I believe that he understands that while there are times that it will be crucial that he be aggressive and score -- early last night was one of those times, since nobody else could find the range and if Parker hadn't gotten those first 11 points, the Spurs might have been buried quickly -- there will also be times when he needs to use his playmaking abilities to create opportunities for his teammates.

People can cast stones at TP all they want, but when it's mattered to the team, Tony has (in a variety of ways) acted in ways other than his own self-interest to be a good teammate. The fact is that the Spurs have options on offense that most teams don't. Everyone in the league is talking about Kwahi doing so well on both ends of the court. So its natural for coaches/teams to be aware of that and set their defense to stop him with doubleteams. Pick your poison, assholes.

That opens the defense for Parker or Manu when their man drops down to double. Or, if they double with a big man, if Kwahi can find our undefended big down low, TD or Baynes or Splitter or Diaw will get a good shot.

The key to the Spurs offense is trying to go from a good shot to the best shot. As Kwahi learns more about how to handle the defensive attention on the doubleteam, he can be a great passer as well.

Spurs basketball isn't about someone averaging 30 pts a game and winning by 2. It's about a bunch of players having fun by scoring in double digits and winning by 15.

I believe Tony Parker and I believe that he understands that while there are times that it will be crucial that he be aggressive and score -- early last night was one of those times, since nobody else could find the range and if Parker hadn't gotten those first 11 points, the Spurs might have been buried quickly -- and times when he needs to use his playmaking abilities to create opportunities for his teammates.

People can cast stones at TP all they want, but when it's mattered to the team, Tony has (in a variety of ways) acted in ways other than his own self-interest to be a good teammate. I've never understood the need to see Tony vs. some other Spur as an either/or proposition -- dating back to the Manu v. Tony days.

The Spurs are where they are because of Duncan AND Parker AND Ginobili AND Leonard AND others. Tony's statement is a testament to his understanding of that truth -- one that seems beyond the grasp of a lot of Spurs fans.
