View Full Version : A rare, exciting end of the regular season

This might be the most exciting last week of a regular season in the Pop/Duncan era. Typically, at this point in the season, the Spurs either have nothing to play for, or they are willing to drop a place or two in the standings at the benefit of resting stars and avoiding injury. This was the first season in which they didn't have that option. Pop was forced to play everyone and treat every game in the last few weeks as a pre-playoff game. If we hadn't gone on this 11-game win streak, we'd still be in the 6-8 range, and everyone would be crowning the Rockets or Warriors as conference champs.

I think this season was more exciting than any previous one because of the trajectory it took. And I think that trajectory will benefit the team going into the playoffs, because they've been ramping up at the perfect time. I hate when the regular season fizzles out in an anti-climax, because it just kills the momentum, and it takes a few playoff games for the team to get back in rhythm. Hopefully this time, they'll be fully-tuned and ready to sweep through round 1.

Only other exciting finish was this one

Finley sent the game to OT, the division title was on the line (vs Houston) and we won in overtime in the last game of the year

I remember that game well. Dallas beat Houston that night I believe as well to move up and then face the Spurs in round one, that did not end well that year unfortunately. That 09 team with Manu out was not a contender and we knew it, but damn that game was exciting there.

BTW people loved to hate on Finley in here later but dude did hit some big shots here and came up clutch quite a few times I remember to win or tie the game. I won't forget his 06 Mavs series where he went all out as well and even had a few vintage dunks like a young Finley, he served his time in SA and made some good shots for the team. I think in 07 as well he had a great playoff run and hit a record threes in a playoff game vs. Denver and held at the time the Spurs record for threes in a playoff run? Danny Green broke it later I believe but man he hit some buckets during that run.

Hopefully, but we all know what happened the last time they charged into the playoffs like Sherman through Georgia.

I figure they will lose at some point in the first 2 rounds and stop the streak before it gets so big it causes a distraction.

Yeah, the refs dicked us over like never before. Streak had nothing to do with that.

I think I spend about 15 hours a week watching basketball and going to basketball forum so I'm going to have to figure out what to do with those 15 hours...

I do tons of outdoor stuffs in the summer, but seriously what do you do every other day weekdays at around 8-12 at night?

I haven't played video games in years, I don't watch TV, I haven't followed any soccer leagues in like 5 years...save for the champions league...

Work is over at 5..

And my rec league games are all scheduled once a week in the weekend...

Frustrating...

Since you used to game, and you love basketball, I recommend getting back into gaming and play some NBA 2K. The series has evolved a lot over the years, and the last few have been excellent. And this generation of game consoles are quite an improvement. With PS4 you can stream your favorite music with Spotify while playing a game, so you're not stuck with the premade soundtrack.

My last nba was 2k13 and. :lol

I bought the ps4 a few months ago before the season and was about to sell it until I realized I might end up getting so bored..I don't think I've touched it since the start of the season..:lol. It doesn't help that the new consoles now have very few games to choose form..

But yeah I might get into 2k15 or 16 whatever is available after the end of the season....

Ah that's badass, what other differences would it have vs. PS3 version? I play offline Association on PS3 and it's really fun. You get so in depth with trades, scouting, development, going for awards, manipulating seeding, offseason moves, the draft, and rosters. I love it.

I've been playing with a 2015 draft download that has all the new college kids like Okafor and Towns. It's cool simulating the draft and seeing how they wind up.

If all goes well, spursfan would be busy ordering championship stuff at nba online store, watching youtube highlights of the won finals, and nba features of how the spurs finally repeated.
