Cheney may buy home on Eastern Shore
ASSOCIATED PRESS

ST. MICHAELS, Md. -- This Eastern Shore retreat town is used to famous people. Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld owns a weekend estate here. Vince Vaughn dropped in recently when filming a movie nearby.

And now, maybe the most famous resident so far: Vice President Dick Cheney.

That's according to rumor, anyhow, with St. Michaels abuzz that the nation's second-in-charge may buy a $2.9 million waterfront :king home not far from Rumsfeld's home.

The purchase couldn't officially be confirmed, but according to locals sitting down to breakfast recently at the Carpenter Street saloon and restaurant, Cheney's as good as moving in.

"I'd heard it was going to close either [today] or Wednesday of this week," said Carroll Hurley, a funeral home owner.

Police Chief Ed Henry -- who ate with Hurley -- even referred to the lot in question as "Cheney's house." It's a 9-acre estate with ornamental pools and extensive gardens.

Charles Mangold Sr., owner of a high-end realty company, was vague about Cheney's interest in the inlet-view home. "It's under contract, but he hasn't settled yet," he told The Washington Post.

Residents here take pride in not being dazed by stars. After all, they've seen Margaret Thatcher, Walter Cronkite, James Michener and Yasser Arafat pay visits to St. Michaels. But still locals are talking about having the vice president as a neighbor.

Rhonda Lewis, a 58-year-old bookkeeper at a bike shop in nearby Easton, said she's lukewarm on having Cheney move in. But she confessed she's always had a crush on Rumsfeld.

"He is just adorable," she said. What's with the old broads thinking Rummy is cute? :drunk

At Albright's Gun Shop, Jim Kohlhaus said Cheney visited recently and bought some shotgun shells.

He recalled telling Cheney he voted for him twice, "and I finally get to shake your hand."

The home rumored to be considered by Cheney was built in about 1930, possibly by one of Thomas Edison's daughters, said Robert Snyder, the Coldwell Banker agent who is listing the property.

"It truly is a magnificent piece of property," Snyder said.

Shopping Redux, let's keep the economy humming. (http://www.gawker.com/news/condoleezza-rice/index.php#breaking-condi-rice-spends-salary-on-shoes-123467)

Yesterday we had some interesting sightings of Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice enjoying her much-deserved break in Manhattan; she took in a show, played some tennis, bought some shoes. Sounds like the perfect vacation for a Lucky girl. Or not:

At the State Department’s daily briefing yesterday morning, before the New York incident, spokesman Sean McCormack responded to a journalist who asked whether Rice was involved with hurricane relief efforts by saying, “She’s in contact with the department as appropriate.” He made no mention that his boss had any plans to leave New York.

But yesterday afternoon, Rice had done just that. Department spokeswoman Joanne Moore told us: “The secretary is back in Washington, and she is being briefed on the situation.” Moore did not know whether Condi had planned a longer stay here.
So does this mean Madam Secretary won’t be spending today in that big corporate suite at the U.S. Open? Whatever. We’ve shitkicked yet another person from NYC; Ann Curry, we’re coming for you next.

Secret service is all over Seventh Avenue. That fucking worthless bitch is shopping in showrooms right now.
Whoa, such language! And how could anyone just assume that our leaders have anything other than the best intentions? We actually have it on good authority that Condi’s snapping up the best of the Spring 2006 collections and sending the fripperies directly to the Red Cross.

According to Drudge, Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice has recently enjoyed a little Broadway entertainment. And Page Six reports that she’s also working on her backhand with Monica Seles. So the Gulf Coast has gone all Mad Max, women are being raped in the Superdome, and Rice is enjoying a brief vacation in New York. We wish we were surprised.

What does surprise us: Just moments ago at the Ferragamo on 5th Avenue, Condoleeza Rice was seen spending several thousands of dollars on some nice, new shoes (we’ve confirmed this, so her new heels will surely get coverage from the WaPo’s Robin Givhan). A fellow shopper, unable to fathom the absurdity of Rice’s timing, went up to the Secretary and reportedly shouted, “How dare you shop for shoes while thousands are dying and homeless!” Never one to have her fashion choices questioned, Rice had security PHYSICALLY REMOVE the woman.

Angry Lady, whoever you are, we love you. You are a true American, and we’ll go shoe shopping with you anytime.

That story reminds me of Noriega's wife. Remember when he was taken out of Panama his wife had like 1,000 pairs of shoes.

:lol

This is how they are working Cheney in as if he's been there all along...and not saying a word, never mentioning the fact Cheney was on "vacation" and nowhere to be found when strong leadership was an absolute necessity ...Cheney couldn't care less about poor people... these are peasants, to this rich racist Halliburton lying prick Cheney!

"Beset with criticism over the federal response to Hurricane Katrina, President Bush said Tuesday, he is sending Vice President Dick Cheney to the Gulf Coast region on Thursday to help determine whether the government is doing all it can.

Bush, Condi Rice, and Dick Cheney we're all on vacation, and couldn't be bothered to interrupt it for the largest hurricane to hit the United States in generations. Especially since it had little to do with the "war on terror".

Can anyone say business trip for Halliburton's coastal rebuilding contract??

Not everyone can totally break down and cry for the cameras like Governor Blinko.

Dr. Rice is the Secretary of State -- what in hades does her itinerary have to do with Hurrican Katrina? As I recall, there were a buttload of people shopping in Austin this past week, as well.

Apparently, the WH thought they needed Rice in NO, cause they're sending her in now.

The real criticism is that Rice, someone who is sworn to protect the people, was buying 1000's of dollars worth of shoes while people were dying in New Orleans from a lack of water, food, and medicine. Is this administration as socio-pathic as TRO?

"I wonder what ted kennedy was doing, and where was john kerry, Nancy Pelosi and hillary clinton.... "

Didn't the Dems lose the 2000 and 2004 elections and so have NO responsibilty for running the administration, setting the tone for country, defining the national agenda and priorities?

So now the shit has hit the fan, AGAIN, and its the Dems' fault, AGAIN?

That's a boldfaced lie, she's already as ugly as a woman can get. Anymore and she'll be negative ugly.
