View Full Version : I have a bad feeling for the Pelicans game

I'm usually one of the more positive people here especially when it comes to big games but the last game has a very unsettling feeling about it. Now I know if the Spurs play like how they played against gsw and first game against houston, that they are gonna win easily. But their last 2 games have been sloppy and esp. the last game where they played down to their opponents for 3 quarters. IMHO, they can't afford to play the way they played the Suns against Davis on the road. Those young guys will want to prove something, clinching the 8th seed in style and getting revenge on that New year's game loss. And their's that possibility of an injury, granted that it's present every game, I just hope none of that bullshit happens.

I'm not saying that we're going to lose but the game just has me feeling quite nervous and uneasy since the seedings will be decided on the last day and anything can happen.

Spurs by 15+ tbh

this whole thing of ":cry the pelicans really want to win teh game :cry" doesn't mean shit. its playoff time. everybody wants every game. really bad.

we'll be well rested for the game, and the first round of the playoffs gives teams a lot of time between games, so i doubt they'll worry too much about it.

I'm a little nervous about it. Winning in New Orleans won't be easy, and I think they'll be getting Jrue Holiday back as well. Hopefully the Spurs come out and match the Pelicans' intensity...can't let themselves fall into a hole like they did vs. Houston in both games.

I love that the Pelicans will be playing hard and with something on the line. The Spurs won't have a mental let down. If they lose, they lose but it won't be because they played down to their competition. Don't sweat it man. Its not the end of the world if they don't end up in the 2nd seed. The Spurs know what it takes to win on the road.

These team's success is predicated on Kawhi and Green playing well on both sides of the ball. If they come out balling, we win. If they lay an egg, we lose. Duncan has that look in his eye, and he's coming to New Orleans with hair clippers.

All our work this past month to move up in standing could go to waste with a loss, it will be hard to get a win, palicans will play with game 7 intensity as it's win or go home for them, they will have big support from their crowd and hostile environment for us...

IIRC, virtually all of the spurs matchups against new orleans since they drafted Anthony Davis have been close games.

Only 1 game out of 11 in the last 3 years has been decided by >7 points. Spurs are 8-3, with 2 of those losses coming this year. (http://www.basketball-reference.com/play-index/tgl_finder.cgi?request=1&match=game&lg_id=NBA&year_min=2013&year_max=2015&team_id=SAS&opp_id=NOH&is_playoffs=N&round_id=&best_of=&team_seed_cmp=eq&team_seed=&opp_seed_cmp=eq&opp_seed=&is_range=N&game_num_type=team&game_num_min=&game_num_max=&game_month=&game_location=&game_result=&is_overtime=&c1stat=&c1comp=gt&c1val=&c2stat=&c2comp=gt&c2val=&c3stat=&c3comp=gt&c3val=&c4stat=&c4comp=gt&c4val=&order_by=pts) I wouldn't go into this game expecting it to be a pushover matchup.

It's an easy game for the Spurs, just as easy as facing the Pelicans in round 1 of the playoffs would be. We'd take that matchup in a heartbeat. I feel bad for them, though. It sucks they have to play the Spurs for their last game, while OKC gets the Wolves.

If they pull off the upset, I'd be a little glad for them to make it and OKC to not make it. I wouldn't find it particularly devastating for the Spurs, but it would be nice to have home court in round 2.

They lose = will be a more difficult road, but will essentially be getting into playoff tempo earlier than other teams.

Only GSW and the Hawks have better records at the moment.

But about the game, I think the Spurs will be treating this like a playoff game. They were pussy footing for much of the year when guys taking extended time off for injuries. I see Pop playing for the win and the Spurs should get it.

It's been a long time since the Spurs had a reason to win the last game of a season.

I was thinking about the two teams I was scared of, not the teams who would actually have home court (my mistake). Pop would not lose a series to the Hawks.

TD 21
04-14-2015, 06:13 PM
Same. I'm concerned with the Davis match-up with no Splitter and with Pop doing his pretend-I-don't-want-this-game-as-much-as-I-do-in-actuality routine, so that if they do win, they'll have done so in his ideal way, so that he can come off as having stuck to his word of not overplaying anyone.

That made sense in a macro sense, but not in a one game scenario, when they're due 2-3 days off (probably the latter, considering they usually start on Sunday) and a good amount of rest in the next 7-10 days in general, considering how spaced out the first half of the first round is.

His ego shouldn't trump a month and a half of hard work that will probably be thrown down the drain if they lose.

Davis is definitely worrisome, but I'm much more concerned with their other players. We know Asik gives Duncan trouble and Davis is the best player in the NBA arguably, but generally their perimeter players are mediocre; let Davis get his 50 points and limit the rest to 40. Unfortunately they tend to play as world beaters against the Spurs. Tyreke Evans has been playing well, Jrue Holiday is back, Gordon could also chuck in 30 points, and Pondexter/Cole can hit their threes at a large clip too. That to me is the most worrisome aspect of this game. In a playoff series they prolly only take one game, but in this single game scenario anything could happen.
