Spurs' head coach Gregg Popovich said that Tiago Splitter (calf) went through a light practice on Friday, but he would not commit to his availability for Game 1 against the Clippers on Sunday.
"If he plays, he plays," said Popovich of Splitter. Splitter is likely headed for a game-time decision on Sunday, but if he's forced to sit, there will be more minutes for Tim Duncan, Boris Diaw, and Aron Baynes. Stay tuned. Apr 17 - 1:26 PM

Tiago versus Clippers Regular season

Game 1 - Splitter DNP - Spurs win 89-85

Game 2 - Splitter 6pts 2 rebs +3 in 18:30 min - Spurs 125-118... Griffin 22pts *Splitter had a defensive rating of 129 - only player worse Bonner 131
Game 3 - 8pts 1 reb - 9 in 17 min - Clippers 105-85.... Griffin 31pts 13 rebs *Splitter had the lowest Rb percentage on team - Defensive rating 111 team avg 108-
Game 4 - 11pts 1 reb -3 in 16 min - Clippers 119-115... Griffin DNP - Splitter defensive rating 115 Baynes defensive rating 116. Splitter Orating 134 Baynes 139 Baynes outplayed Splitter here easily - 14/4 plus 2...

Needless to say Splitter has done anything that warrants his contract against the Clippers this year. He has been outplayed by Baynes, and only averages 8 points 1 rebound in 17 minutes of action. Would Spurs like to have him, sure, do Spurs need him to win, absolutely not. 1-2 against the Clippers with Splitter in the lineup. 1-0 without him

Regular season games are all about the circumstances: Who was injured/resting? Who had the rest advantage? Who had more motivation?

Statistically, it may not appear that Splitter made much of a difference in the season series, but that's highly unlikely to be the case in a playoff series.

Baynes can't guard mobile, face up fours (obviously, Griffin is also adept with his back to the basket, but he's not stupid; he knows that would be playing into Baynes' hands); Splitter can.

Splitter is precisely the type that gives Griffin trouble, with his combination of length, lateral quickness and decent enough strength.

They didn't play the Clippers after the point where Splitter started looking right. This is what I mean by you have to consider the circumstances.

Baynes has pretty good hips and is good at keeping his feet through motion and contact. He's been pretty good when switched off onto guards all year long as well. I sometimes wonder if you watch the game at all.

What % did he shoot, though? The average is irrelevant. Griffin is going to play roughly 3 quarters and score 20+, no matter the defender.

Baynes is slow laterally and is only useful when it comes to banging with back to the basket brutes with little to no face up game. Your bizarre obsession with him blinds you to this.

I don't it matters about percentage. Say he misses the first rebounds then gets an and 1. His percentage is lower but he got a better result.

Every time Blake scores is a momentum play for clippers. Splitter or Baynes need to man the fuck up and throw his ass into the front row. Unfortunately Baynes played like a bitch. But equally as terrible as Tiagay.

Splitter transition d was awful
