View Full Version : Why is Pop so reluctant to play Kawhi 35+ mpg
I can see not wanting to tire out Duncan, Manu, and Porker, but Danny and Kawhi are young and should be able to handle big minutes. They don't have to play 45 mpg but 35-38 should be easily attainable. Especially when we need one of the two out there to guard J Crawford when CP3 is on the bench..

I don't understand this either, he'd rather fuck around with belli. I have no problem with that if he's shooting well and atleast one of green or leonard are on the floor.
He played like 38-39 vs New Orleans. Im guessing without the early foul trouble he easily hits 35+. I'm more concerned about Danny's minutes...even when his shots aren't falling his defense is key vs the most efficient offense in the league. I'm afraid Belli hitting threes last game will cut into his minutes even more.

This. Green should be playing 35+ mins just like Kawhi. Even when his shot isnt falling his D is still superb, especially when the other option is Belinelli..

Leonard is the alpha dog of this team now. No reason he shouldn't be playing over 35 minutes per game right now.

Hopefully Belli suffers a non life threatening injury that takes him out the rest of the playoffs. When we went on our win streak, he was benched most games iirc
edit: He was injured

At least he came in and knocked down some 3's. Our offense was pathetic last night. Sure we take a hit defensively with him, but can't mount a comeback without hitting shots. And he did that.

He'll give you a good game or two but he should be used sparingly. He's not someone who should get consistent minutes.

our defense wasn't that bad. They didn't score a hundred thirty points. We just did not score enough points to beat them. Hell we were neck and neck until the half even though we were playing like shit.

He was on Track to play like 38 if it was close down the stretch. Took him out early cuz game was over. Kawhi also sat a little longer in the first half because he picked up two quick fouls.
So short answer is he's not....

Trapped!
First look at this picture (below). This is a really bad situation being caught in the corner, hemmed in by both sidelines. Don't let yourself get caught in a corner. Don't ever stop your dribble in the corner or along the baseline... if you've dribbled baseline and find that you've got nowhere to go, just back-dribble back out, but never stop the dribble there.

Avoid the Trap
Avoid getting caught by dribbling into one of the "trapping zones" (colored areas) seen below.
http://www.coachesclipboard.net/images/TrappingZones.gif
Escaping a Trap
Once in a trap, get in triple threat position and get low with the ball protected on the hip. The common mistake is to stand upright and pivot away from the defenders. This allows the defenders to "squeeze" into your backside. Now you can neither see the floor, nor can you pivot. See position below

"Take an Outside Leg"
If you have a little room along the sideline, from triple-threat position, if you can't find someone to pass to... "take an outside leg". Get your leg around the outside leg of one of the defenders and bust out of there with a dribble. In the diagram, the left foot is your pivot foot. Get low and take a long step with your right foot around the defender's outside foot, while pushing the ball forward, protecting it with your body.

"Split the Trap"
If the trappers are not "knee-to-knee", then "split the trap". From triple-threat position, stay low and aggressively step thru, between the two defenders, and dribble out of there. This is a little like a "football move", like a running back getting low and running thru the line.

In either case, you've got to be tough and strong. Don't be afraid to make contact with the defenders.

Right, and I think cause Green sucked, and no one could get it going offensively, he went w/Belli more. He knocked down some shots. I'm glad him & Patty hit their shots, with Patty struggling and Belli really not getting it going last playoffs, it's good to see him come in and knock down a few shots

"Our offense was pathetic last night"
Clips defense was excellent, geared to Spurs' strengths. and it worked. Pop was outcoached badly.
