Internet nerds don't have a say in this. When it comes down to NBA alphas you need 3 things:

1) Drawing ability- The NBA's a business. Michael, Kobe, Magic, Lebron, etc. all have this.
2) Aesthetic appeal
3) Championship rings

Duncan's lucky he had Popovich to get him some rings, but he severely lacks in all other departments.

Once again, the three principles to an NBA alpha male:

1) Drawing ability
2) Aesthetic appeal
3) Championship rings

Kobe, Michael, Magic, Kareem are the only ones with all 3.
Lebron, Bird, Shaq have 1) and 2) but not 3)
Duncan, Horry, Fisher, Kerr have only 3)

That's why even if you spot Duncan 8 titles, he still wouldn't be better than Kobe, at all.

I don't know about you, but entertainment value on the court depends on the novelty of the product. Jordan had the fadeaway.... Kobe is simply imitating it. Zero novelty value.

I would rather watch someone do something that isn't done very often or haven't seen before rather than watching someone trying to do the same things that someone else already has.

If you want to talk about money, it is simple. Kobe has made money by emulating Jordan. He is even relying on yet another superstar to get himself paid off the court as well as winning on the court. No self respecting person could ever claim a person like that is "great". Kobe is a cheap remake, nothing more.

Meanwhile, Tim Duncan isn't recognized for being like any of the other players in his categorical greatness. He stands alone... an original and bonafide credit to the game of basketball. You can go ahead and keep watching your pathetic sequel bomb at the box office, while I will continue being mesmerized by a true artist on the court.

how is that important for you as a fan? How is it more important that Kobe has more money and generates more money than having a player make the playoffs every single year, and be a consistently great player until the age of 39 years old? How is it better to have a star player alienate every good teammate he's ever had except maybe Pau, and how is it better to have someone who is clearly an inefficient chucker (even the media says that now) than have a player who has gotten along with every teammate, has always been great on both sides of the ball, and is in position for a 6th ring potentially at his age? But nah you're right he lost money in a divorce he can't be an all time great what kind of all time great has marital problems?
