View Full Version : Anybody worried about Kawhi in crunch time games?

MVP Finals aside, Kawhi has struggled mightily in the fourth quarter of games. Some of it has to do with his number not being called but there's also been a passivity to him in this series. Has Jordan's presence down low gotten to his head? But his defense seems affected too. Anyways, we need him to take control on Friday and reassert himself. He definitely had his great moments tonight.

Timmy just said Kawhi was clutch for them down the stretch.

I'm scared of most of the Spurs at the line in any quarter, KL included.

Patty... Nope.

Well, that's part of what I mean. He's gotta call for the ball out there.

Can you elaborate?

They barely even looked for him down the stretch..I know he missed a few floaters, but so did Duncan..

As good as Kawhi is, he's a defense-first SF, you aren't going to give him the ball and ask him to create from the top of the key..there aren't many SFs in the NBA that play that role, even Durant doesn't do that most of the time(over 50% of his shots are assisted)..they need to give him looks in the mid-post/mid-wing/post like they did on that iso vs. Barnes..

To be fair, the Spurs really struggled to get into their sets after Manu fouled out, which is probably the reason for the unorganized offense..

Kawhi is still young so I don't expect him to perform like our veterans but missed shots, free throws and turnovers need to be addressed

We can't blame TP hero-balling in the 4th this time.

No. I am not worried. Earlier in the year when his number was being called a lot, I worried, but he has grown. My, how he has grown. He watches and learns from some of the best talent in the league every game. His passing and mid range game is getting pretty nice, and he is only what? 23? Not sure, but still dedicated, learning, and very hungry.
Its the other team fans that are worried.

I'd rather have Leonard Iso then constantly throwing the ball to Duncan who can't really score on post ups anymore
Most of his baskets are assisted on pick and rolls, hand offs, tip ins

The only thing I'm worried about with Kawhi is his tendency to fall in love with the jump shot. Would like him to attack more.

I am more worried in him not being able to become as good passer as he needs to be. But i am nitpicking here.

Kawhi is shooting so well in this series and having really good numbers 16-28 FG 57% 3-5 from 3 60% 20.5 pts 7.5 reb 2.5 stl 3 ast in 36 minutes

14 shot attempts per game and 20.5 points...so effective. If people want he score more, just give him the ball MORE.

I'm not sure about this but I think one of Pop's adjustments is not calling plays for Kawhi for this game. I didn't notice any plays called for him to get the ball in the post. I think it's because Kawhi has yet to learn how to make the right play when double-teamed, as we have seen in Game 1. IMO, Pop's key adjustment that led us to a win tonight was letting Duncan do damage and make plays in the post. With perimeter players surrounding him, Duncan, as compared to Kawhi in game 1, was able to play his post game without that much defense from the Clippers. Expect the Clippers to make adjustments on putting more pressure on Duncan when he touches the ball in the post.

Kawhi misses a lot of free throws and 3s in clutch situations but otherwise he's a stud

Did you watch the game? Duncan did work on the low post. Yeah DJ is a excellent shot blocker but not a good post defender. Very much like Ibaka. We definitely have a better chance of winning this series if we let Duncan do play his game in the post.

Yeah Doc's a good coach and the Spurs are going to have to change it up to keep from being predictable.

This. They either kept him parked in the corner or used him as a screener. What a waste of his talent.
