This is it folks, Spurs can leave LA with a nice tan and face the Rockets...or they can head home and off themselves starting with Parker.

Shore up the defense, hit the open shots and let's bring this thing home.

The moving screens are getting old, tbh. Kawhi's hook shot will need to drop with more consistency, those things were in and out. Timmy will probably get some tough minutes unless we actually show up and run the place down. Our defense has been getting more rewarded in L.A. surprisingly it seems. It's been tough getting into the passing lanes when all they run is a high pick and roll with CP3. Beli had some nice sequences on him but we obviously don't wanna have that be our defensive match up against Paul. The key to start was costly turnovers and some poor early fouls by the GOAT. Diaw 2.0 has been money for us, these type of performances from him must not go to waste. Manu on Crawford anybody? A little Patty on CP3? Sometimes it's nice to put an unfamiliar body on someone shooting so efficiently. That mid range jumper is a thing of beauty. Tiago on the defensive end was pretty noticeable during this game in particular. I wanna see the Spurs force Blake into picking up his dribble more. Driving to the rim is a thing, spread the floor. It's awfully tough to box out comfortably when you know they can just take off in a flash with Blake and DJ, but we got to see the continued effort at least to have a chance. The last thing I wanna point out is that the Spurs need to let the Davis injury be more important than what it really is. What I mean is that although he's not a star player or even a top role player by any means, they can't let the injury to Davis be a good thing. Don't let Hawes be a positive spark off the bench, make them want to play the starters heavier minutes by exposing the 4th best big man for stretches of the game. Go Spurs Go, not giving up on these guys. They're facing a good team, but I'm confident that they're gonna show up and win in Los Angeles . Race to seis! :flag:

I hate seeing the Spurs settle for so many 20 foot jumpshots, really need to fix that in Game 7.

Is it worth trying to stay home on the roleplayers and force Griffin and Paul to beat them for 48 minutes? Maybe that's already what they've been doing for this series :lol

Very true. I don't want to read too much into post game quotes but some of the Spurs (manu, parker) don't sound too confident about game 7 but I'm probably just crazy.

At least with the clippers they can rely on Blake/cp3 who have shown up virtually every game this series (outside of game 3). For us it's hard to figure out who will definitely show up. Thought Kawhi would have a field day but these last two games have been a little alarming.

I think duncan, Kawhi and diaw will be great tomorrow. Just really hope Pop brings his A game tomorrow with the rotations.

Shoot it better. Play with more urgency and effort. Don't stick too long with cold shooters if there's a hot hand available. Don't go to Hack a Jordan with 7 minutes left in the 2nd quarter.

As for the officials, Capers and Phillips worked two Spurs playoff games together last year -- Game 6 of the First Round at Dallas and Game 2 of the Finals; Spurs lost both. They worked one game together in 2013 -- Game 2 of the WCSF vs. Golden State, which the Spurs also lost.

This exact crew did work Game 7 of Brooklyn-Chicago in 2013, which Chicago (the road team) won.

True, but the problem then is that you're giving Jordan and/or Griffin clean rolls to the rim and easy lobs.

The answer Pop seems to have chosen is to offer a token hedge from a big as Paul clears the screen to try to flatten him out a bit, with Paul's principal defender trailing the play and trying to regain position with the potential to switch it Paul pulls up and threatens a shot. The problem is that Paul is an exceptional shooter in that mid-range, but if you contest the shot too aggressively with a big, he can find the lob opportunity that exists when the big brings help. It's a killer play for them and the way Paul has used it in Games 4 and 6 have opened my eyes to just how dangerous he can be.

They also seemed willing in Game 6 to switch everything and bring help to the mismatch. Parker/Mills ended up isolated with Griffin a few times in Game 6, and the Spurs had help coming - though generally only from a wing - as soon as an entry pass was threatened.

Maybe just a simple matter of the Spurs communicating better and not letting that develop. Or, go under it early and gamble with Cp3 hitting long 3's. At least they won't be running it with Big Baby.

The Spurs are shooting something like less than 60% on FREE THROW shooting. If we could just make our free throws tonight, we can keep it competitive till the end. If we are in it at the end, I think we keep our composure better and pull off a win.

Pressure is on Pop to come up with something to mitigate the effectiveness of the double screen that Paul has used so well. He might as well figure it out now...it has been so effective that even if we pull out a win tonight, every team we play is going to employ it against us. So figure it out now and don't let them think they can do anything about it.

Since Pop didn't mention anything about defense after Game 6, do you think he's settled with the mindset that in order to beat the Clips, we'll just have to focus on improving the offense because he simply doesn't have an answer for that double-screen for Paul or anything for Griffin? In other words, is he going into this with a D'Antoni mindset?

Pop has no idea what he's doing, he's just waiting for his players to actually play a full 48 minutes. If they win tonight it'll be because they gave maximum effort and Pop will be there to reap the benefits.

Don't know why Pop didn't try the zone that was so effective in game4? when Paul and Griffin were dissecting them in the second half of game 6. Play the hot hand whoever that is. Why didn't he use hack a Jordan in the second half of game 6? That pick and pop with Paul is killing them. Better Jordan at the free throw line than Paul and Griffin in a groove.

I was worried before Game 7 against the Mavs last year. I'm far less concerned this year for some reason. Maybe my expectations are just lower and the hunger that was still there last year has been satisfied. At this point, I'm just hoping for a good effort. If they give a good effort and don't win, that happens and I can live with that.

If the Clippers win this series, they will have earned it. You can complain about the Spurs in Game 4 and Game 6, but I thought the Clippers (and, most specifically, Paul) were just exceptional when they needed to be in big spots on the road of must-have games. They might not win a title, but those were championship level efforts by that team and they should be credited for that, even if the result is a disappointment for Spurs fans.

With that said:

They might not win a title, but those were championship level efforts by that team and they should be credited for that, even if the result is a disappointment for Spurs fans.

With that said:

I was worried before Game 7 against the Mavs last year. I'm far less concerned this year for some reason. Maybe my expectations are just lower and the hunger that was still there last year has been satisfied. At this point, I'm just hoping for a good effort. If they give a good effort and don't win, that happens and I can live with that.

Yeah, I'm proud of this team regardless of the disappointment they might have caused for their efforts in the close out game 6. The Clippers are a top three team in the league when Blake Griffin and CP3 play the way they've been playing. Just gotta tip your hat to them.

The Clippers are a very good team. There would be no shame in losing the series to them. Nobody is getting past the Warriors, anyway.

Agree with the first. The Clippers are no joke. I don't think the Warriors are as good as people think they are. They are very flawed. Memphis will make it a series with them.

I have no confidence in pop tonight. None

littlecoyotecoin
05-02-2015, 03:04 PM
Since Pop didn't mention anything about defense after Game 6, do you think he's settled with the mindset that in order to beat the Clips, we'll just have to focus on improving the offense because he simply doesn't have an answer for that double-screen for Paul or anything for Griffin? In other words, is he going into this with a D'Antoni mindset?

If he were going to make any changes, we would surely not hear about them in the pregame or postgame pressers.

littlecoyotecoin
05-02-2015, 03:22 PM
Don't know why Pop didn't try the zone that was so effective in game4? when Paul and Griffin were dissecting them in the second half of game 6. Play the hot hand whoever that is. Why didn't he use hack a Jordan in the second half of game 6? That pick and pop with Paul is killing them. Better Jordan at the free throw line than Paul and Griffin in a groove.

I am somewhat ambivalent on the Hack-a-Jordan, and this is one reason why. In some of these games we have been impotent on defense to stop them. I believe that without it, in a game or two, they would have blown us out of the water. It allowed us to keep it close, and at least be within striking distance for a chance to win.

I do think it takes the game out of the refs hands, to some extent, as well. Blake isn't getting rewarded with questionable and-1 opportunities, Paul isn't being rewarded with flops and and-1's, similarly. We end up giving up 1 point for what often would have been three.

That is not to say it doesn't have it's disadvantages, as well. It does give Blake, et. al. rest, and with no bench, they need it. When our offense is working, it may funk up our rythm, gets us into foul trouble, and we lose some of the o-rebounds on the second attempted free throw.

Luckily, those lost offesnive rebounds were lost earlier in the series. I believe they got that cleaned up after one particularly bad game were they lost like three of them. I don't remember this being a problem since that game.

All said, it is a mixed bag, and a strategy that Pop wrestles with employing, himself, as it doesn't show up in every game, nor at every time Jordan is on the court. It is a tool, anyway, but maybe not always the right tool for the job.

Clips' defense has been pretty tough, disrupting Spurs offense, while Spurs defense gives awa too many open mid-range jumpers. It is now and has been a Spurs' game plan to guard against virtually everything BUT the mid-range jumper, because it is one of the least efficient shots normally. So it is not surprising that we are playing that way. The coaching philosophy on the defensive side has appeared to be "if they beat you with the mid-range jumper then you tip your hat and say "well done".

I can understand favoring guarding other areas over the midrange but you can't consistently give nba players consistent open looks and hope to not get burned. We learned that lesson with Lebron in the Finals in '13.

The home team in Game 7 typically comes out tight because the pressure is on them. The Spurs need to take advantage and jump on the Clips quick for a change. If they can get a good enough lead the bench can come in and really do damage.

5. Who wins Game 7?

Adande: The Spurs. They were my pre-series pick, and I hate having to go against myself, even if the evidence this series indicates otherwise. The Clippers have put themselves in position to win five of the first six games so far. But the other trend is the road team has won five of the six games. One of the hardest series to predict that I've ever covered.

Pelton: Spurs. In a series with such close margins, Glen Davis' ankle injury could be a difference-maker if he's unable to go, further stressing an already-thin Clippers bench. I'm not sure they'll have quite enough for another hard-fought 48 minutes.

Shelburne: If I answered this question 10 times I would pick each team five times for five different reasons. Part of me says the Clippers just need this series more. Another part says the Spurs' experience will carry the day. How much does home court matter when each team has won twice in the other's building? The Clippers' superstars can be more dominant when they're on. The Spurs are far deeper. I like Manny Pacquiao by decision over Floyd Mayweather in the fight Saturday night, can we stop there? No? OK, if I must pick, I'll say the Clippers, if only because I think they're more desperate.

Wallace: Spurs. I can't -- and won't -- count the Spurs out until they're actually out for the count. They've earned the benefit of the doubt after coming back time and time again against the odds.

Wright: San Antonio wins this one because they've overcome situations such as this in the past. They captured Game 7 in the first round last season against the Mavericks, and they lost Game 7 of the 2013 NBA Finals to the Miami Heat. Besides, Gregg Popovich called the Spurs "soft" after their loss Thursday night to the Clippers. The Spurs will respond resoundingly.

Go Big 3, go!
Go SPURS, go!

We HAVE TO win tonight!

I'd rather not be defeated by the Rockettes either, but we have to beat these Clipper bitches!
One more win and we can destroy them like we destroyed the Heat!

Their players will scatter!

Please Spurs, please Big 3....

ONE MORE WIN!
