Their lackluster performance in this game is the reason the Spurs are in this position, more than any other reason(s). . . Spurs blew the ultimate golden opportunity and it's really biting them in the ass, and even should they win in LA once again Saturday, it's going to continue biting them in the ass.

Technically, yes, but you could point to several other embarrassing meltdowns, as well, specifically the Knicks and Pistons games..

The Pistons loss was one of the worst losses in franchise regular season history IMO..

Not untrue from said "technical" standpoint, but from a mindset view, Spurs knew exactly what was at stake when they were warming up on NO's court - although "every game counts," the Spurs really couldn't have been aware exactly how important those others losses were when they occurred. IMHO that is why the Pelicans loss outranks the Pistons and Knicks losses.

As inconsistent as they were this year and losing two at home in this series they were probably not winning it all this year anyways imo. 2nd seed though would have been alot better because they beat Dallas in 5 imo and are resting for round two right now with HC.

Doesn't make too much sense, IMO. We won twice on the road this series, and gave it right back. HCA is great when you're actually dominant at home... but we've largely looked like patsies at the AT&T Center.

As far as matchups, you're going to eventually have to face some of these teams, tbh...

FWIW, I thought we played to win that Pelicans game, much like I think we're playing to win all of these games. We're just unable to put a long stretch of good basketball together, due to various reasons that have been rehashed almost all season.

They've been playing like they are playing against the Pelicans since that game

ONe of the few games I missed watching. I was shocked they'd lose a game that was so important and that said a lot. Hearts not in it people. Game 7 schmeven...win or lose in LA, the Spurs ain't going 'all the way'. If they do, all the way, on the road without HCA....MAN, that would make 2014 look like nothing in comparison and that was one of the greatest comebacks from humiliation and defeat in NBA history but this...would be off the charts.

The Knicks game is the one that epitomizes how frustrating this season has been.

That was the game where they were abused by the likes of Alexey Schved and Lou Amundson.

That's my personal second most frustrating loss of the season. The spurs went on a big run after that, as if they knew they had fucked up bad this time.

I can see ppl pointing to flaws in our coaching or just bad play in this series, but the Spurs wouldnt be in this series at all had they taken care of business in NO. I get there are other fucked off losses but Spurs not only knew the deal before tipoff, they completely had their own fate in their hands.

Its almost as if the Pelicans did get a playoff win, because the playoffs started a game early for the jostling 4 West teams.

I dont know why people continue to ignore this.. THERE IS NO HCA IN THIS SERIES. BOTH TEAMS LOST 2 GAMES AT HOME!!!!

We would have struggled with dallas too. The spurs always strugle with teams that have pfs that can shoot, because duncan, diaw, or splittter can't just sit in the paint. In the past, blake griffin coulnd't shoot as well as he does now, that's why it was so easy. Now that we give him those open 18 footers, he's hitting them with ease. That's why we've always struggled with the mavs. They have a jump shooting pf by the name of Nowitzki. You may have heard of him before.

You really think Mavs would challenge the Spurs like the Clippers? It is not like Dirk had a great series vs HOU.

It is not 2009 anymore. The Mavericks and HCA to start was the clearly more attractive option compared to now.

And the argument were going to face these teams eventually is fine on paper, may even have been true in practice, but it completely ignores the confidence building momentum of winning playoff series.. look at how the Spurs turned it on after last season's tough first round vs the Mavericks.

Of course, it is still possible, but the difference between now and then is HCA . . . Which we would have if the Spurs had taken care of business in NO, when they knew they absolutely had to.

If the Spurs took care of business and were prepping for the next round, we wouldnt be having this discussion. Instead they're going on the road in a game 7. That's directly tied to the situation right now. Unless you called a 7 game series 2 weeks ago, youre the one who's point isnt really clear, tbh. We all read the playoff brackets when they were published. No one knew exactly how the Spurs would fair.

I bet he wishes he had gone all in the last game of the season for the second seed...

I know we usually lose Game One of a Series (well, at least until 2012), but this looks bad. HCA MATTERS no matter what Pop says. We are in trouble.

So did you call a 7 game series, yes or no. Plenty of people said what you said, including Sean Elliott. It is not a hard conclusion to make. The difference in pointing it out now is that we are aftually HERE. It is actually biting us in the ass now.

And the language similarity is purely coincidental.

I never saw it even getting to 7 tbqh. I figured Clippers in six, possibly seven, though unlikely the latter.

somebody find the road team's W-L record for playoff game 7s.

http://hangtime.blogs.nba.com/2015/04/10/in-west-mix-home-court-advantage-not-necessarily-a-big-deal/

How much does home-court advantage matter?

Since the league went to seven-game series in the first round in 2003, only 37 of 180 series (21 percent) have gone to seven games. And in only three of those series did the home team win all seven games. So in 177 of the 180, the winning team won at least one game on the road.

The home team won 28 of the 37 Game 7s. And going back to 1948, the home team has won 80 percent of the 119 Game 7s in NBA history. That seems like a daunting figure for any team that starts and ends a series on the road.

But the home team is often the much better team. The home-court advantage doesn’t show up as much when you’re looking at two teams that are evenly matched.

There have been 62 series (all rounds) since 2003 that were played between teams that were within *four games of each other in the regular season. And the team with home-court advantage has won only 29 (47 percent) of those 62 series.

*Or within three games in the 2011-12, lockout-shortened season.

https://turnernbahangtime.files.wordpress.com/2015/04/20150410_within_4.gif

Furthermore, 13 of those 62 series have gone to seven games, and eight of the 13 Game 7s (including each of the last three – see below) were won by the road team.

Last three Game 7s between teams that were within four wins of each other in the regular season:
— Brooklyn (road) over Toronto in 2014
— Chicago (road) over Brooklyn in 2013
— Clippers (road) over Memphis in 2012

If you go all the way back, the home team has won 30 of the 44 (68 percent) of Game 7s played between teams that were within *four wins of each other in the regular season. That’s a high percentage, but not as drastic as the 80 percent for all Game 7s. There are plenty of recent examples of good teams overcoming those odds and, as noted already, most series don’t get to Game 7.

*Adjusted for shorter seasons in the 50s and 60s.

This year, we could see three first round series played between teams that finish within four wins of each other: the 3-6 and 4-5 series in the West, along with the 4-5 series in the East (with Chicago, Toronto and Washington in the mix).

There’s no reason why those teams wouldn’t want home-court advantage. But in recent series played between equally good teams, it hasn’t proven to be a difference-maker.

Spurs had allot of lazy games this season and yes it's come to bite them in the ass like some of us here thought it would.
