I was just on the ESPN NBA frontpage and noticed that the Poll asking if the Spurs would repeat as champs is now at 51% yes and 49% no. How the hell is that. With the signings of NVE and Finley, plus the fact that we lost virtually nobody, how can 49% of the country hate so much? I know we aren't a lock, but who did better than us in the off-season that could legitimately have a chance to knock us off?

Those aren't bad percentages. Remember that we are only 1 of 30 teams, and at least 5 teams (along with their fans) believe they have a legitimate chance of winning it all.

Maybe David Stern conspired with NBA officials to be sure that the results would at least be close.

Or then again, maybe fans outside of San Antonio weren't blown away by the Spurs up-and-down performance during the Finals and think that other teams have improved enough to give them some trouble.

Well, if you used ESPN as your primary source of sports news would you expect the Spurs to repeat? Hell, would you be aware that San Antonio had a basketball team? IIRC the Spurs championship win was even the top headline the day after they won. They had some big picture hyping their NBA draft preview.

Suck it up and be proud that your team walked away with the trophy. Besides I can think of about 3 teams teams that could win the Championship next year just as easily as the Spurs.

Not surprising. If the poll question was 'Will Miami win it all?' it would probably be at 75% yes. But those are the breaks when you are a Spurs fan.

Are you serious? I'm not crying, and I am very proud of our team. I was just making an observation and wanted to know what the rest of the board thought. Do Spurs fans have an inferiority complex? I don't know, maybe.

51% is a large percentage for the reasons others have mentioned.

The fact is that the Spurs will never get the national media attention that the Knicks and Lakers receive. They could win the next 10 championships in a row, and Dan LeRetard would still be up Shaq's @$$.

Do you really care what the hacks at ESPN think? In all fairness, is it still frustrating at times? Sure, it ticks me off, and the Spurs aren't even my favorite team. (ESPN totally ignores the Pacers as well, but they haven't even made it to the Finals recently.) It mostly upsets me because ESPN has gone into the toliet, yet has driven most of the regional sports networks in the midwest out of business. Bleecchhh!

At any rate, don't sweat it. The Spurs are virtually a lock in the current, diluted NBA. Name even one other team that doesn't have a glaring defect in its starting 5.
