Spurs cant beat their opponents in their respective primes. They have to wait around for dynasties such as the Bulls, Lakers and Heat to get bored (or get broken up) or for gifts from the league such as the Amare Diaw suspensions.

You could argue that THIS season was another "transition" season. The Warriors are in their first year in their prime. The Cavs and Bulls are still adjusting to their new rosters etc. They were even gift-wrapped an injury with Chris Paul's lame hammy.

The Spurs cant repeat because they were never THAT good. They just hung around in the background waiting for the competition to diminish.

2005 - Lakers got blown up. Suns and Mavs hadnt come into their own
2007 - Amare/Diaw suspesion. Cavs had no business in the finals
2014 - Heat got bored/diminished. Again, four straight trips to the finals. What do you expect to happen.

When the Spurs play their respective teams in their primes, what happens?

2000-2001: Win a SINGLE game against the Lakers in TWO playoff series
2004: Lose to Lakers again
2006: Lose to the Mavs, at home, in game 7, in overtime
2010: Swept by Suns
2012: Curb-stomped by Thunder before Presti blew up that team
2013: Lose to Heat in epic fashion

This year was no different.
The Spurs lose to everybody when they (the opponents) are healthy and hungry.

2010: :lmao a team that had George hill as their best player
2012: game 6 officiating, porky getting afraid of sefellatio
2013: yep we lost that, choke

So in all of the losing years, you are saying that the spurs were in their primes and were a perfect team that was expected to win the championship year after year but in the years they won the teams just werent in their "primes" even though those teams were 3peating, repeating, on the rise. Duncan, Ginobili and Parker werent on the 2010 team?

Also, I meant that in 2001 and 2002, the Spurs managed to win a single game in two playoff series against a hungry and healthy Lakers.

The 2000 Spurs would have no shot against the Lakers either. Shaq was dominant. Duncan was not.

Did you not watch the whole season when all of them were injured or the mavs series where Hill was basically the go-to-guy?

And yeah I meant, that Duncan was injured. And yep Lakers weren't hungry in 2003 clearly shows with how they were back to the finals the year after. Sure Spurs doesnt have a shot, spurs beat teams that werent hungry or out of their primes, teams that just 3peated and repeated, sure as long as mr dudley>carmelo says it it's true.

See..thats like Rocky losing to Clubber Lang when he lost the eye of the tiger and basically "got bored".

Then he got back into shape and kicked Clubber's ass.

The same can be said for the 03 and 04 Lakers. They needed a wake-up call and handled the Spurs in six.

lol at three peat = dynasty.

A sports dynasty is a team that dominates their sport or league for an extraordinary length of time. The definition of dynasty by academics implies a single leader over the bulk of that period, a great example being John Wooden who led the college basketball powerhouse UCLA Bruins.

I agree, I think we have become unrealistic as fans. We expect a team to win 6-7 championships within 8 years now a days to call them a dynasty. It's unrealistic in todays sports. While I have a tremendous amount of respect for MJ and feel like he played in a nasty and tough era of basketball from a physical standpoint, it was a weak ass era from a basketball stand point.

No matter how MJ tries to spin it, his Bulls would have been eviscerated had they faced some of the ridiculously tough teams of the last few years.

The worst of the worst in the series was getting owned by Matt Barnes. Barnes? Wings is where the Spurs were supposed to dominate, and yet the Clippers, with Barnes, Reddick, and Crawford, actually managed to outplay, or at least match, the Spurs.

Deserved to be laughed at.

If 5 championships and 7 finals appearances in the span of 10 years isnt a dynasty, then its an impossible measurement to reach. Salty ass spurs fans

Ah but there's a span of two consecutive years where the playoffs were missed. Hardly dominant. Laker fan always wants to group these two championship runs together but the reality is that they are two different happenings. Hence my initial post.

Looks like we have 2000s as co champs since the lack of continuity between Shaq and gasol Lakers makes it two separate dynasty. The latter team of course being not a dynasty.

Nope.

LOL only a Spur fan would consider making it to the playoffs a success. :cry but but we've made it to the playoffs 18 years in a row...yeah but but we've won more championships in a shorter span.
