They got at least Barnes(?) and Reddick
Deandre is very much improved maybe not a lot of hack a jordans before since Deandre is not yet as good?
They got Doc Rivers

Which do you think is the biggest thing?

Nothing really, Griffin improved a lot, and our players played like shit, Danny Green was like a turtle, Tiago like a mummy, Parker mentally crippled, Kawhi scared and Pop senile.

Having CP3, Crawford, and Reddick; smaller players who can come off screens to shoot 3s and/or drive to the basket. Something Spurs have trouble defending when a player can do both off PnR.

Hasn't Griffin developed a better jump shot since 2012 to make him a more dangerous scoring threat???

Griffin hitting that mid range jumper

That's a scary sight. It's like he's shooting a free throw because they concede it to him.

When he hits that, he's unstoppable.

Stoudemire was basically unstoppable in '05 against us. Averaged 37ppg. That's fine if he does that but the 7+ apg he was averaging is what killed us. We can let CP3 and Blake get theirs but we can't let the other guys get off. When guys like Matt Barnes and JJ Redick are killing us it's tough to win.

Parker is insanely worse.

Griffin is loads better.

Manu is worse.

Green was cold.

Kawhi cratered.

Reddick stayed hot the entire series.

Spurs couldn't win on their own home court.

This is about it, that and Griffin improved alot on his J. Spurs deep runs though and being tired or banged up had alot to do with it. Tony was messed up and we all know Splitter is never healthy so that hurt.

Blake has vastly improved his game. He can now post up pretty well and his outside J is money. As I was watching series I kept telling those around me that Blake has the whole skill set now and is a monster on offense. I wasn't a big fan of Blake before but he has earned my respect. And he's a pretty decent actor in his commercials.

Clippers improved in a lot of areas(Paul, Griffin, Jordan) and it still took them seven games to beat a team who was playing without a point guard the entire playoffs and a coach that was drunk halh the time. Spurs are still a damn good team but Tony is clearly holding them back. Also, Manu can no longer carry Tony when he's choking like he's done numerous times in the past(Dallas first round, OKC WCF last year).

Matt Barnes made surprisingly good contribution. SPURS should have made a better offer to lure him from playing in LA few years ago. Reddick was supposed to suck like Marco in the playoff when he was guarded by KL but he didn't. SPURS should have spent MLE to sign Crawford few years ago too.

1. Spurs didn't play at 100% when they needed to
2. The whole Clippers team went on a shooting tear throughout the series; not sure if it's streaky or just good, but they couldn't seem to miss shots throughout
3. cp3 got a bit more clutch

THE BIGGEST FACTOR is BLAKE GRIFFIN. He shot like 95% of his mid range jumpers, and improved his ft shooting percentage to 70 from 50. That's a pretty admirable move in my book tbh, because he could've been lazy and not work on his ft. If this was the case, Spurs would've been able to hack both DJ and Blake easily. He improved leaps and bounds this season, and I have to give him respect for that.

JJ Reddick imo. That and internal growth of the players they retained.

Clipper Nation
05-05-2015, 02:42 PM
Not sure why people keep saying we went on a shooting tear, we were ice-cold from three for most of the series and weren't making uncontested shots at a significantly better clip than the Spurs :lol

Both teams were pretty evenly matched this year, judging from the 2-2 season series record and the playoff series going the full 7 games with most of the games being extremely close. As cliché as it sounds, the series really did ultimately come down to who made more big plays down the stretch in Game 7, and the Clippers made more of those plays than the Spurs.

Also the Clippers had all the best free throw shooters in the league on their team and we used to much hack-a-dj.

Tony Parker couldn't even come close to matching Chris Paul like he used to. Leading up to the series all the analysts said it was a "toss up" between the two which as Spurs fans we knew was complete bullshit. I knew Paul was going to eviscerate us and Tony would struggle. He's just not the same. We no longer had a go to guy to create penetration which would in turn lead to ball movement to the open guy. Green was a corpse on offense and Griffin was just an absolute monster we had no answer for. With all those factors we still almost won.

mercos
05-06-2015, 12:19 PM
Blake Griffin played like one of the five best players in the league, while two of our five starters (Parker and Splitter) had bad series coming off of injuries. Despite both of those scenarios, we had a 7 game series that came down to the last second. If Griffin doesn't become Triple-Double Man, or Parker and Splitter were healthy, Spurs probably win again.
