Exorcist, as a kid. My brother and I were going to sit up late and watch it and like always he fell asleep 10 minutes into it before it even got interesting. I watched all of it and it scared the shit out of me. Now I watch it and laugh when she says "suck his cock you faggot".. lol

The conversation between the demon and the priest is amazing. Linda Blair was phenomenal in that, the makeup was superb. They've tried for decades to recreate that atmosphere and have failed miserably because they have actors, not "people" and they over do it. That conversation could have lasted 2 hours and I would have been glued to it for 2 hours.

SPOILER ALERT:::The original "Wicker Man" from '73 is an intense experience. Pure evil from the initial frame as later you're to realize he never stood a chance...he'd been lured with the express intent to be sacrificed. This is strictly adult fare. You won't forget it, ever.

The original "When A Stranger Calls"---as the murderer's weapon to kill a babysitter's charges is his bare hands. He's insane. We're not shown any of the murders, not his incarceration, but, we are privy to a tape recording of this man in custody in the asylum. It's unsettling to say the least. Years later he's released--and by chance finds the babysitter, now married. The original detective on the murder case (Charles Durning) now retired decides to "murder" this psycho, lure him and end him with lock picks. Ron O'Neal, also cognizant of the original case and now a Captain with the police dept abides with his blessing..."take your time, do it right."

The end is handled straight, with a finality that is cathartic as the babysitter ends up in bed with this man.

Event Horizon was such a disappointment. It could've been great but the graphics and shit are so damn cheesy. Favorite horror movie of all time is the 80s The Thing but movies I actually find the scariest are the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre, The Exorcist, and believe it or not Signs. Take away the stupid connection with Mel Gibson's wife and "swing away" and the whole allergic to water shit and that would be a great movie

Just watched excorsist clips on YouTube since I haven't seen it and I'm thinking this is a comedy movie right?

Your posts reek of insecurity. You're like a 15 yr old who's too cool to really get into a horror movie. The kinda person scared to just fucking enjoy something. Obviously none of us are genuinely scared as a child might be but we let ourselves open our imagination for a couple hours to feel a little bit of fear and discomfort

I love horror movies. Good. Bad. In between. Don't care - love them. I've never been truly scared but I am entertained. I think there are so many different types you have to have multiple categories.

An underrated film IMO because of the creepiness factor is: When a stranger calls / calls back

Supernatural horror is entertaining but the movies that were always scarier to me were the ones that just had a psychopath in it like Cape Fear (Scorcese's) & Silence of the Lambs; just simple, realistic terror in those flicks. De Niro's acting in the boat scene of Cape Fear was great.

I remember taking my wife to see "The Blair Witch Project".

Just an awful movie....one of the worst horror movies I've ever seen. Not scary at all....no plot...and you never even see the "ghost/demon". My wife thought it was awesome however. She was terrified for a week.

Different people just have different opinions about what is scary and what is not....

I loved Blair Witch. Agree with Darth though - things like SOL or TX Chainsaw are great because it's not supernatural. I love the Supernatural films too, but there are so many categories.

i'm the opposite, the supernatural stuff always bothers me far more. seeing a psychopath with issues doesn't scare me the same way. Cape Fear is such a great flick though, saw it in theaters when I was probably way too young and still love that one. looks and sounds great on BluRay.

Films I remember messing with my head/sleep as a kid would be the Exorcist. big fan of Friedkin but I don't revisit the Exorcist. part 3 is very good/scary as well.
the first Nightmare on Elm Street scared me the most growing up, just the atmosphere (music and visuals) really got to me. still does. the sequels lost that edge of the first one.
the first Evil Dead is surprisingly disturbing as well, since the sequels went more crazy in a good way.

Yep, that is the word(s) to describe this film. The way it gets away from him at the end even when he's so fucked from the start. Flying over all that land and water.

And so, when (she) dances naked in the next room over he's genuinely tempted as any MAN would be. He doesn't know she's naked, but, he senses it, fantasizes it and triumphs over this temptation...the truest measure of man. And, he's a good man, a fine man so when he comes across the prepubescent girls dancing naked he's genuinely outraged and doesn't look for pleasure sake. Me? I'd a sidled over to the window while pretending to talk to Lee.

The remake of "Invasion of the Body Snatchers" from '78 has some moments, but, it's the romance of this film that I so enjoy. The relationship between Sutherland and Brooke Adams is amazing. The love between them especially him to her is just astounding and so tender. Then the marriage twixt Veronica Cartwright & the adorably existentialist Jeff Goldblum is equally enjoyable. That only the Cartwright girl "survives" is the boundless tragedy here.

Just last week I read a bio on Bette Davis and she stated it was an awful production with the fellow actors very unprofessional and Oliver Reed drunk most of the shoot.

And yet you can't see any of it on the film.

And a key to this film is the presence of Karen Black. She is solid, good substance, round & curvy. Reed too is substantial, even the kid is a puddger. It adds something to a film like this. The kid was big shit back then, well for a kid. He had a role in "Ben" the sequel to "Willard."

And there is trouble in this marriage, even before they get to the country She's unsatisfied with him as husband & lover. He's trying to climb over her to be the family head again, but, she's very assertive and keeps him down here & there.

No. Sure, once the jig is up and the squalid intent of the masked killers is presented the frost is off the pumpkin, yes, but, there are nuances that upon retrospection are well stated. This is a family in extreme turmoil and crisis. The father has failed as the patriarch and he's bitter at himself and his children. The mother is disappearing before our very eyes withdrawing from the light and into a house that is huge and soulless. And the children "bite & claw" one another in bits & pieces.

Only then does the killing commence.

When I was a kid it was Poltergeist. The scene where his face melts off. And the kid with the braces outta control.

Thanks for the thread OP, going to have to check out a lot of these movies.

Not particularly scary but creepy and fucked up: House of a 1000 corpses, Devil's Rejects, and The Hills Have Eyes.

And in this case the remake trumps the initial entry. A stellar cast comes forth, lending strong credence to a tired vehicle. The highlight? The young husband, now a fresh widower is face ass down when he is risen, only his wedding ban--half buried in dirt lights the frame(s) of this scene.

Whereas in the original it's not personal, it's just mindless rampaging. In the remake---it's personal,,,there is calculation & hesitation and it's key to make "us" forget the old & straighten in our seats for this one.

---

And the (Rejects) is a powerful lead off of 30 minutes that is grand movie making on any genre. Only the principals are seen clearly, but, there is so much going on in the shadows, and we don't miss anything.

It burns out after the half hour and loiters the mediocre but it's forgiven. We got the 30 minutes and nobody can take it away.

The Strangers. Only movie that I lost sleep over. Watched all the supernatural shit and ll that mess but none ever scared me. Something about the Strangers that gives me the chills when I watch it.
this is a pretty underrated one. i remember even the trailers were pretty fuckin creepy. the one where one of the masked people sorta fades in and fades out of the kitchen.

the worst part was, i saw that movie before i had my drivers license, so when i saw that with a friend, we walked about 2 miles to the movie theater, and had to walk back at night, and in between the theater and my house is a bigass park with a bunch of trees. at nighttime, it looked a lot like the backyard from the movie :lol

Yep, those kind of scenes made this movie. There is another where either the husband or her are in the living room and one of the killers is in the background and they don't know it.

Not a fan of horror flicks but my brother and mom are so I ended watching more than I would've liked. It, was probably the only one that really scared though. Creepy ass movie.

Entertaining movie. I figured there would be a sequel with the way it ended.

I watched this recently on NetFlix. Enjoyed it. I don't know if it is "legit scary," but it is definitely bleak and downright disturbing in places.

I watched one last night. "Hit and Run"---it had some surprisingly scary moments. Unfortunately near the end it fucked up, for no reason & screwed itself.

---

I also watched a "scary" type film "Bad Call"---I did not realize it was a "short film" until it ended abruptly 15 minutes in. I'm going to watch it again, because a lot is happening that I thought I'd figure out as the movie moved along. It's about a Gulf War veteran suffering PTSD. He's home now, but, still having flashbacks. He's married, but, the wife, while empathetic is teetering. It's worth the 15 minutes.

It was actually an ok movie, much better than the latest horror flicks. Got a respectable 7+ imdb too. The best scene for me was when the huge dude came in to the room, a close second was that when the ghost was the mom knocking :lol

How did that guy not know :lol? The only thing I didn't get was how the ghosts got to places so fast. They made it seem like "they" always walk. You see it multiple times in the movie - "they" are just walking towards the person. So when they drive hours away, how the hell does it get there so fast :lol?

I feel like the "IT" was always near the person who has the curse, so even if they drove to a far place they will always be followed? :lol

Also when that old lady was walking towards the girl while she was in class gdamn that sent chills. The movie has prevented me from sleeping too late now. :lmao

I think the movie had a very positive message - just have as much sex as possible. As long as your having sex, nothing bad will happen to you
