Not sure if this means a reduction in the penalties or simply talking Kraft into being a good company man, but interesting nonetheless.

"..... Well,*according to a new report from ESPN's Adam Schefter,*it was actually the NFL's decision to punish McNally and Jastremski, not the team's.
From Schefter:
For those asking why Patriots suspended two employees if those two did nothing wrong, as New England claims: NFL asked Pats to suspend them prior to discipline being handed down, per a league source in New York. New England obliged with the NFL's request.
This complicates what the NFL said in a statement about the punishments........"

I have no idea, nor do I care. But I think it only matters if he gets no suspension. I'm just enjoying watching Pats fans who think everyone just hates them, and that they never do anything wrong. Teams bend and break the rules all the time. I respect their franchise in the Brady era, and have no ill will towards them whatsoever. Brady missing games isn't going to help us win any games. But if a suspension holds of at least two games, it makes no difference between 2 and 4 to me. Week 4 is a bye, and so is week 3 seeing as how it's Jacksonville.

I like justice and this story is fascinating to me. That's about it.
Seriously, Brady is getting suspended for four games because they think he probably knew the ball was ever so slightly deflated?
It's beyond retarded. It's bizarro world.
I think he should get zero. I think he's a pussy if he agrees to anything more than zero and he should sue the ever living fuck out of the NFL if Goodell upholds any kind of suspension during the appeal.

yeah no doubt.
Step 1:
" With Brady and the NFL Players Association making a strong push for Commissioner Roger Goodell to delegate a neutral arbitrator to handle the appeal and with the league leaking on Friday that Goodell is “very unlikely” to step aside voluntarily, it’s highly likely if not certain that a lawsuit attempting to force Goodell to delegate the appeal will be filed, possibly soon....."

There is to the NFL standard, Blake. This not under American jurisprudence.
The NFL/Goods has handled this satisfactorily and according to the laws that were agreed upon by ALL parties. Kraft understood that to keep breaking these laws would serve no one. There is no back room deal to pull the 4 game suspension. Kraft most likely looked in a mirror, counseled with his wife, remembered his parents & acted like somebody.

Tom Brady was suspended four games by the NFL for his role in Deflategate. Since then, the NFL Players Association has filed an appeal on his behalf. Not only has the suspension hurt Brady on the field, but it has also hurt him off of it.
Brady’s trust level, appeal and endorsement credibility has plunged since his suspension, according to Marketing Arm’s Celebrity DBI, which is an index that measures and ranks specific attributes of celebrities.
Brady’s trust level dropped to 3,027th of 3,686 celebrities measured, from 967th on Feb. 5, shortly after he was named the Super Bowl MVP. His trust level is now on the same level as Bill O’Reilly and Billy Bob Thornton.
“We expected a significant drop; this is a huge,” Matt Delzell, Marketing Arm’s managing director of celebrity talent acquisition, said in a phone interview done with Bloomberg.
His appeal level is now 3,570th, which ranks him next to 50 Cent, Rex Ryan and Brittney Spears.
“If you were in the financial services business, where trust and credibility are paramount, it’s not the right move,” Delzell said. “But if you are in the fashion world, and people aren’t looking at you to be their moral compass, rather a trend-setter and they follow your style, that’s a different story

Deflating ‘Deflategate’
Our study, written with our colleague Joseph Sullivan, examines the evidence and methodology of the Wells report and concludes that it is deeply flawed. (We have no financial stake in the outcome of Deflategate.)
The Wells report’s main finding is that the Patriots balls declined in pressure more than the Colts balls did in the first half of their game, and that the decline is highly statistically significant. For the sake of argument, let’s grant this finding for now. Even still, it alone does not prove misconduct. There are, after all, two possibilities. The first is that the Patriots balls declined too much. The second — overlooked by the Wells report — is that the Colts balls declined too little.
The latter possibility appears to be more likely. The Wells report notes the expected pressure for the footballs at halftime in the Patriots-Colts game, factoring in the decline in pressure to be expected when a ball, inflated in a warm room, has been moved to a cold outdoor field. If the Patriots deflated their balls, their pressure levels at halftime should have fallen below the expected level, while the Colts balls at halftime should have hovered around that level.
But when we analyzed the data provided in the Wells report, we found that the Patriots balls declined by about the expected amount, while the Colts balls declined by less. In fact, the pressure of the Colts balls was statistically significantly higher than expected. Contrary to the report, the significant difference between the changes in pressure of the two teams’ balls was not because the pressure of the Patriots balls was too low, but because that of the Colts balls was too high.

"...... the quarterback and representatives from the NFL Players Association are planning a vehement rebuttal of the charges in the Wells report, and they will seek to have the suspension lifted in its entirety. That news came Tuesday from ESPN’s Sal Paolantonio, who*told the network*that he had gone over a four-page document sent from the NFLPA to Troy Vincent, the league executive who officially handed Brady and the Patriots their punishments.
In talking to people who are close to this situation, Brady wants the entire suspension removed, and he wants to be exonerated,” Paolantonio reported. “He feels he has done nothing wrong, and if you listen to [team*owner] Bob Kraft, it’s pretty clear that the Patriots believe that they will have Tom Brady for the Thursday night opener [of the NFL season].”

" If he gets the suspension reduced to two games and then he accepts that, he’s basically accepting guilt and I don’t think he wants to accept any guilt whatsoever in this situation,” Paolantonio added, “because while the commissoner is trying to protect the shield, Tom Brady is trying to protect how he’s going to be remembered.”
Exactly. Accepting a plea deal of two games here would be ridiculously stupid.

Most likely outcome today imo: Goodell reduces suspension to 2 games, Brady says "fuck that, see you in court"
Another possibility: Goodell exonerates Brady for any involvement in deflating footballs but keeps 1 game suspension for not fully cooperating in the investigation, Brady accepts and it's over.
Dream Pats Fan scenario: Goodell throws out the suspension, shits all over Ted Wells. 0% chance of this happening.

I have a hunch he won't go with the predictable 2 game reduction. It looks weak from both sides of the argument and it gives Brady ammo in court because the commissioner already admitted that the punishment was initially capricious.
I'd be surprised if Goodell does something other than all or nothing. He's gonna talk to every lawyer who will listen about how much of a shot Brady has at winning in court and make his decision based off of that. If he thinks Brady has no shot in court, he has no incentive to change the suspension because at that point he might as well look as strong as possible. If he thinks Brady has a good shot in court, imo he'll waive the suspension just to ensure he avoids the worst case scenario of Brady embarrassing the NFL in court after how bad the last year has been with handling suspensions.
Blake

The only negative for Brady going to court is that judges rarely overturn arbiter decisions.
Lawyers would probably have to show that it's unfair practice for Goodell to be the arbiter.

If Goodell keeps the suspension the way it is, he's setting a precedent he doesn't want to. Remember when the Vikings heated up game balls on the sidelines? Nobody cares if the Vikings or Packers cheat. They only care if the Patriots cheat. Goodell has the majority of public opinion on his side if he unfairly crucifies the Patriots here, so he'll do it because he's a desperate spineless cunthole. He's not interested in what really happened, he's interested in what will get his approval rating up. Shitting on the Patriots is a surefire way to get the fans back on his side. So while I don't think he wanted Deflategate to blow up like it did, he certainly took advantage of it. He got Ted Wells to deliver a guilty verdict with zero actual proof and scientific data so shitty and stupid it makes Furious 7 look like a physics textbook in comparison. He kept himself as arbitrator to ensure his ability to hammer the Patriots stayed intact. And soon he'll be hoping a court will ignore the idiotic nature of everything surrounding this case, and rule in his favor on the technicality of the CBA.

Thanks for making my point for me. If Goodell really was Bob Kraft's lap dog this story would have been buried in January. All Goodell had to do was release the PSI numbers that completely debunked Mortensen's initial report of "11 of 12 balls were deflated by over 2 PSI" which started this whole mess. Instead he let that completely false report play out on the national scene for months. If anything, Goodell getting Kraft to back off his threats to sue the league shows their relationship is the other way around, Roger carries the leash and Bob wears the collar.

NFLPA to fight Tom Brady ruling in court if any of QB's ban remains
The NFL Players Association is expected to contest the results of Tom Brady (http://espn.go.com/nfl/player/_/id/2330/tom-brady)'s appeal in federal court if any of the New England Patriots (http://espn.go.com/nfl/team/_/name/ne/new-england-patriots) quarterback's four-game suspension remains, union sources told ABC News' Ryan Smith.
If Brady's suspension is lifted when commissioner Roger Goodell announces his ruling and he is fined instead, the quarterback will decide whether to challenge the decision in court.
If the NFLPA does challenge the appeal verdict in court, it will argue:
• The ball-deflation policy was incorrectly applied to Brady, as the rules were meant for club personnel and not players.
• Against the "general awareness" standard used by Ted Wells' investigators to determine Brady's involvement.
• If it is determined the ball-deflation policy did apply to Brady, the league failed to give him notice of the penalty, in essence making up the punishment with precedent.
• The NFL doesn't have proper techniques and standards for measuring deflation of footballs.
• Goodell should have recused himself as the arbitrator for Brady's appeal hearing.
The commissioner said last week that he expected to have a ruling soon, possibly sometime this week.
In addition to Brady's four-game suspension, the Patriots were fined $1 million and stripped of a 2016 first-round draft choice and 2017 fourth-round selection as a result of the Wells report. Patriots owner Robert Kraft said at the owners meetings in May that he "reluctantly" accepted (http://espn.go.com/boston/nfl/story/_/id/12913741/robert-kraft-says-new-england-patriots-appeal-deflategate-punishment) the team's portion of the penalty.

IMO it was a tactical error of the union to leak a story the same week Goodell was expected to rule about how they're going to take it to court if he doesn't overturn the suspension. Once that happened, Goodell almost has to double down and uphold the suspension in order to avoid looking weak. People are retarded and think Goodell works for the general public (:cryhe should be fired for Ray Rice:cry) but the people he actually works for (the owners) don't want to see a commissioner who buckles to pressure from the players' union.

The Commissioner's ruling today did nothing to address the legal deficiencies of due process. The NFL*remains stuck with the following facts:
The NFL had no policy that applied to players;
The NFL provided no notice of any such policy or potential discipline to players;
The NFL resorted to a nebulous standard of "general awareness" to predicate a legally unjustified punishment;
The NFL had no procedures in place until two days ago to test air pressure in footballs;
AndThe NFL violated the plain meaning of the collective bargaining agreement.
The fact that the NFL would resort to basing a suspension on a smoke screen of irrelevant text messages instead of admitting that they have all of the phone records they asked for is a new low, even for them, but it does nothing to correct their errors. The NFLPA will appeal this outrageous decision on behalf of Tom Brady.

That way Tommy can bitchslap Baddell in front of every-fahkin-body when a judge overturns this bullshit. It's going to be wicked awesome when that happens!

Hopefully this leads to the commissioner being stripped of "absolute power" and they can find a reasonable third party who will hand out punishments on a fair and reasonable basis.

You can still film another team's practice and even their signals. You just have to do it from a designated location. The Patriots got in trouble because they did it from a non-designated area, for one game, the first year those rules went into effect.
But please, don't allow facts to get in the way of your hatred of the Patriots.

Even if you are against Goodell ...Kraft basically admitted he took the team punishment for a unspoken promise of leniency for Brady. IF Tom was in the right (which should also absolve the team since that would make those employees :rogue" since Brady and Hoody were innocent) why would they need to to cop to aNYTHING?
this whole affair is silly.

I've seen a lot more QBs say that they would prefer an under-inflated over an over-inflated football.
Aaron Rodgers is the only exception. Am I missing others?
Plenty of ex-NFL QBs say that they can "really dig their fingers" into an under-inflated football. Should I ignore all of them just because Aaron Rodgers says that he prefers more air pressure in his?

Brady is probably no different than all of us in the sense that he sends racist, homophobic, and sexist texts to his friends in jest. There's no way that he was turning over his cell phone to the league and no way he risks going to federal court where they can get a court order to read all of his texts through his cell provider. Deflating footballs would then be the least of his problems.

“You guys made a mistake by drumming up business for the show and how I would address my reporting for the first time,” Mortensen informed WEEI. “I will not allow WEEI, [Patriots owner Robert] Kraft or anybody to make me the centerpiece of a story that has been misreported far beyond anything I did in the first 48 hours. Maybe when the lawsuit is settled, in Brady’s favor, I hope, we can revisit. Don’t call.”

Brady Blowjobbers are conveniently omitting how less fumbles occur with the under inflated. Esp in cold and often misty - rainy New England weather.
Less fumbles = more possessions = way more wins.
One of the good posters at SpursTalk posted a link to the stats for the Cheatriots since they started deflating.
Also tracked players who played for another team, joined the Cheats, then got traded again.

4. The NFL had no clue that lower temperatures could affect air pressure in footballs
5. NFL officials violated their own rules by going into the refs' locker room to test the balls at halftime
6. The "independent" lawyers working with Ted Wells were examining witnesses FOR THE NFL at the hearing
7. The NFL punished Brady using a rule they admitted wasn't subject to players

Ahh right on. I actually used to like the Bucs back in the day when I was growing up. They were the 2nd team I rooted for, back when they had Warrick Dunn, Mike Alstott, Derrick Brooks, Ronde Barber, Keyshawn, John Lynch, etc. That was a great team. I used to own a Dunn jersey too. I don't really want to agree with Kim Jong-il, but that transcript didn't do the NFL many favors in terms of demonstrating that it acted fairly as to Brady.
Brady's evasive, unquestionably, but the science the NFL relies upon is hardly compelling and Goodell's opinion after the appeal just ignores or pretty blatantly misstates the evidence against the league's conclusions.
I don't know that any of that is enough to convince a judge to find an abuse of discretion in the NFL's process, but there's plenty here to explain Brady's unwillingness to simply accept a punishment and his continuing insistence that he didn't do anything wrong.

Judge shreds Goodell like any logical person should
Finally, Berman said he could not understand how the commissioner opted to keep a four-game suspension over some other penalty. He asked what portion of it was for involvement in a deflated football scheme and what part was because Goodell concluded Brady didn't cooperate with the probe.
He also was troubled by Goodell's defense of the penalty on the grounds that it was comparable to penalties on players who use performance enhancing drugs.
When NFL lawyer Daniel Nash said both violations are an effort to gain a competitive advantage, the judge responded: ''I still don't see how the four games is comparable to a player using steroids.''''It goes to the integrity of the game,'' Nash said.
The judge used stronger language than he had when he seemed to lean against the NFL at a similar hearing a week earlier, though he cautioned that he had not yet made up his mind which side would win.......

In an interview with ESPN.com, Joe Thomas touched on many elements of the deflated football saga and ruling, and on the authority of Goodell. He called Goodell's decision "completely ridiculous" because the league allows quarterbacks to go to great lengths to make game footballs the way they want them.
"If you want [quarterbacks] to play with a brand new football that comes out of the box, then make that the rule," Thomas said. "If you're going to allow them to break it in because you want more passing yards, then let them do whatever they want.
"Who cares if they throw a football that has no air pressure? What does it matter? Why don't we let the quarterbacks do whatever they want to the football? I don't understand why there's any rules."
"We know [quarterbacks] already doctor [footballs] 99 percent, why do we care about the one percent in the air pressure?" Thomas said. "Why does that matter? Nobody's even explained why that even matters."
Thomas said Brady is not a cheater.
"I think he's trying to do everything he can to gain a competitive advantage to help him do his job better, which is to throw the football," Thomas said. ""Why should we be punishing a guy that wants to do his job better?"
"I would equate what [Tom Brady] did to driving 66 [mph] in a 65 speed zone, and getting the death penalty."
