What if this had been the year of the Expansion Draft and the new Charlotte Bobcats? Talk about managing slots.
Let's say you have the current roster, you are RC and Pop and you can only protect 8 players. Who do you protect?
Nazr Mohammed......Fabricio Oberto.....Radislov Nesterovic
Tim Duncan............Robert Horry.........Sean Marks
Bruce Bowen..........Michael Finley........
Emanuel Ginobili......Brent Barry............
Tony Parker...........Nick Van Exel.........Beno Udrih
I am a fan of Oberto, so I have painted myself in a corner on not protecting Beno, Brent, Nick, and Rasho. Maybe I want to change my mind and gamble...or do I?
Who would you protect?

Tim, manu, tony, horry, bruce, oberto, nazr, and Beno.....
those guys are the present core and the future....however, horry isnt going to last too much longer, he would be a huge threat against us thats for sure

I would of protected everyone like yours, except adding Beno and not Bruce. Expansion teams don't want to start with old players that just play defense, so they probably won't claim him. So we would end up with both Beno and Bruce

Oh they would have picked him. He's still one of the best and his contract is cheap for a player like him.

a young team would take bruce for his defense skills so that he could help mold the other young players plus he would be an excellent locker room leader..

I would have to agree. If you don't have much talent or you have a bunch of young players, defense and clock management is the best way to stay competitive. Kinda like the way Mike Fratello coached Cleveland a few years back.

Just protect your starting lineup, Barry and Beno.
