Did you guys know about this? I found it on mlive.com:

The Pistons also introduced Maurice Evans, their other summer free agent catch. Evans, who played in Sacramento last year, said turned down an offer from San Antonio to join up with Detroit, citing the presence of new coach Flip Saunders as a selling point.
"I'm a student of the game, and that makes me a good defender," he said. "I had an offer from San Antonio, but I liked this opportunity. Everyone knows about Detroit's defense, and Flip is a great offensive coach. I think that combination is going to put us over the top. This can be a dynasty."
Do you guys know the details of that contract that was offered? This actually turned out great for both teams. We got Evans and you guys got Finley, who would have probably signed with Miami if you had spent your money on Evans.

Well, he did play under Flip before in Minnesota, and he played with Chauncey there as well.

The Spurs might have told him what they would offer him if they did not get Finley.
But the Spurs were not issuing out any contracts that would draw from the remainder of the MLE until they knew where Finley was going. So Evans was not going to SA unless Finley was not or for the minimum.

Skipped over the Spurs to go play for Flip? Sounds like he's not smart enough to be a Spur anyway.

can't some of you Spurs fans except the fact that not every player wants to be on your team :rolleyes
Some players love your coach and system and other players don't...
some players want to piggyback to a championship and some guys want to get some decent minutes and feel like they are really contributing
Some players like to stick to styles that they have played under before and some like to change it up.........
big deal........if i had to choose between who wasn't smart in this instance, i wouldnt say it was Mo.........id say it was some homer spurs fan
You mean not everybody wants to wear the silver and black?
Get outta town. :shootme That's crazy talk.

That's true. He watched the Finals last year and saw how close these two teams are. He figures, if he comes here and we win the title it will look like he helped "put us (back) over the top". Where as in San An he'd look like he's just along for the ride.

I believe Evans got a longer term contract from Detroit than the one the Spurs were offering or would have offered.

I completely agree.
