View Full Version : NBA: What's More Important - Olympic Gold Or NBA Championship?

AFP (http://afp.google.com/article/ALeqM5izeHWI_rjHPgwwYqPNBHETA7DSyg): Kobe Bryant on Tuesday said winning Olympic gold was more important than the NBA title, as he bids to polish his legacy by returning Team USA to world basketball supremacy.

The triple NBA champion, who heads a star-studded line-up hotly tipped to end an eight-year international drought, answered immediately when asked which prize mattered more.

"Gold medal," said Bryant, wading into the club-versus-country debate.

"You're playing for your country, there's more at stake. I think when you're playing for the NBA championship, you're actually playing for a brand, you're playing for whatever motivation -- proving people wrong or whatever," he said.

"When you put on a USA uniform, you're playing for something bigger than all that. You're representing your country, and our country is going up against the other country, trying to prove who's best. For me, that holds more weight."

Team USA has long battled for the services of top NBA players in a row that has been partly blamed for a series of flops on the world stage.

After embarrassing bronze-medal finishes at Athens 2004 and the 2006 World Championships, a core national team has been established, raising hopes of a better showing in Beijing.

Since I'm not getting any replies maybe the better question is...would you ever quit on your country and how do you feel about people who quit on their country....

It's a championship ring. At least for a U.S. player, it's a much bigger accomplishment. For a foreign player, it's the gold medal.
But still, you shouldn't rape during the process of trying to win either.

You're looking at this with Rose colored lenses on.....they play NBA ball all the time so whereas the OLYMPICS every 4 yrs or so....but make no mistake they know whats more important....you're basically implying men from other countries are more patriotic than Americans....you're throwing the American athelete under the bus....In terms if Sports there is no greater joy than standing on the world stage competing with the best of the best people in all of the world and coming home with the GOLD...if I could experience the euphoria of something like that it would be amazing....

Now if I wasn't man enough to bring gold home I would feel like shit but I would still be proud I at least tried and represented...I wouldnt get mad and vow to never represent my country again...who does that it would be infantile tbh

No...just saying that the NBA is the highest level of basketball in the world. Elite U.S. players know that to put themselves in the discussion of the best ever, they need to win a ring.

NBA is not the highest level....it's just the most popular due to the original dream team...sure if you condense and cherry pick only the best ones you can make that case but outside of the top 1% of players the international league players are better and more fundamentally sound....why do you think we had to start using our best players anyway? I think most would place a gold over a ring. Why would they represent their country for free? Why was it so important to see the pros to the Olympics when David Robinson first brought home the bronze? Me personally... give me the ring that comes with a fat paycheck. I don't give a fuck about patriotism.

The 2 best HOF players in Spurts history led us to fucken Bronze. No Laker bound for the HOF ever did that shit. They probably can't even spell Bronze Medal. And the one Gold Medal Magic (Laker) led Daisy Robinson (Spurt) to should have been Shaq's. The Olympic Gold is definitely more important for Kobe, there's no question about it.

Instead of coattailing just the big men, he's coattailing everyone. Very important for a career coattailer like him.

Kobe was on trial for sexual assault the same month of the Olympic games. I'd rather have a bronze medal on my resume than a rape allegation.

Not me. The rape allegation never forced Kobe to swear off pussy. That bronze medal forced Jim to swear off the Olympics.:lmao

for US-Players:
NBA Ship > Olympic Gold
...simply because its easier to get Gold.

for others:
NBA Ship < Olympic Gold
..because only so many other teams have done it (in recent memory only Argentina?)

Magic in '88 and Kobe in '04? Clearly Tammy and Daisy don't make players around them better like Magic and Kobe. :lmao

Magic was great, no doubt.

As for Kobe, just the great coat tail rider in the history of the sport. Did it with the Lakers, then again with the Olympic teams. Just a phenomenal coat-tail rider, phenomenal.

San Antonio should be part of Mexico, your team did a slam dunk on the Alamo.

He gave the coach of the bronze medal team an NBA Championship ring. Brown could never break through until Kobe took matters into his own hands.

So your boy wasn't in the Olympics because he raped. A few of the others were skeert of the terrorists, and even more were getting married to their next child support and "half" exes.

Because there were no back doors.
