More from BBC Sport's Richard Conway, from the Fifa hotel: "It's too early to say if the election will go ahead. The indication from officials this morning is they see no reason why it should not.
"Sep Blatter, from what we understand, has not been arrested. Prince Ali of Jordan who is also at this hotel has not been affected.

Away from the press conference, the US department of Justice has released a statement to the media saying 14 defendants have been charged with "racketeering, wire fraud and money laundering conspiracies" over a 24-year period.
Four individual defendants and two corporate defendants have pleaded guilty.
Acting US attorney Kelly T Currie said: "After decades of what the indictment alleges to be brazen corruption, organised international soccer needs a new start.
"It needs a new chance for its governing institutions to provide honest oversight and support of a sport that is beloved across the world, increasingly so here in the United States.
"Let me be clear: this indictment is not the final chapter in our investigation."

Sepp:
This is a difficult time for football, the fans and for FIFA as an organisation. We understand the disappointment that many have expressed and I know that the events of today will impact the way in which many people view us.
As unfortunate as these events are, it should be clear that we welcome the actions and the investigations by the US and Swiss authorities and believe that it will help to reinforce measures that FIFA has already taken to root out any wrongdoing in football.
While there will be many who are frustrated with the pace of change, I would like to stress the actions that we have taken and will continue to take. In fact, today’s action by the Swiss Office of the Attorney General was set in motion when we submitted a dossier to the Swiss authorities late last year.
Let me be clear: such misconduct has no place in football and we will ensure that those who engage in it are put out of the game. Following the events of today, the independent Ethics Committee – which is in the midst of its own proceedings regarding the awarding of the 2018 and 2022 FIFA World Cups - took swift action to provisionally ban those individuals named by the authorities from any football-related activities at the national and international level. These actions are on top of similar steps that FIFA has taken over the past year to exclude any members who violate our own Code of Ethics.
We will continue to work with the relevant authorities and we will work vigorously within FIFA in order to root out any misconduct, to regain your trust and ensure that football worldwide is free from wrongdoing.

FIFA Frantically Announces 2015 Summer World Cup In United States

ZURICH—After the Justice Department indicted numerous executives from world soccer’s governing body on charges of corruption and bribery, frantic and visibly nervous officials from FIFA held an impromptu press conference Wednesday to announce that the United States has been selected to host this summer’s 2015 World Cup. “We are thrilled to reveal that, for the first time in 21 years, the World Cup will finally return to America, with matches set to kick off today at 5 p.m. local time in Los Angeles,” said FIFA president Sepp Blatter, smiling broadly before unveiling the tournament’s official logo, a hand-drawn stick figure kicking a soccer ball with “USA 2015!” hastily scribbled in black marker above its head. “With world-class venues in cities across the country and a rapidly growing passion for the sport, the U.S. is the perfect choice—really the only choice—for this summer’s tournament. Everyone at FIFA is certain that the 2015 World Cup in America will be a tremendous success, and billions of fans from around the world will, in just a few hours, come together to enjoy this wonderful display of soccer over the coming weeks.” At press time, the U.S. national team was leading defending champions Germany in the World Cup’s opening match after being awarded 12 penalties in the game’s first three minutes

I think the US arrests on FIFA officials are because Bill Clinton is salty and asshurt because the US didn't win the 2022 World Cup. But who cares, this is awesome. They gave the WC to a country without the necessary football tradition and infrastructure while there is enough football stadia in New York and New Jersey to host a World Cup.
Clinton gets to wag his dick on the FIFA and we get to see how corrupt this governing body is with each passing day of this United States crackdown.
Soon, the United Kingdom is going to be on this because they got shafted in their London 2018 bid. London has enough football stadia to host a World Cup and FIFA still gave it to Russia. :rollin

i think i started a reply to this thread before the election on my cell but never finished posting it, now its more interesting.
Im glad the crooks are going down and they even managed to get blatter to come down which was looking impossible. But the rot comes from deep within, and the basic structure of FIFA has to change- the current rules were there largely before TV money even existed, let alone the insane amounts of today. This is a very delicate moment, and UEFA is already showing their intent to take over things, but the question is who is coke, budweiser hyundai etc has in their pocket, and the answer to that could well be: everyone (that btw is the most likely inspiration for the FBI investigation, corps fed up with bribing FIFA over and over).
FIFA has always been controlled by europeans, even Havelange was surrounded by europeans and all of their main operations are based there, yet the investigation AFAIK has only picked up stuff from the americas federations, conveniently leaving every other region off the legal hook. All 10 conmebol federation were busted, and all of those conmebol federations have long histories and established teams (not to mention represent large populations). What does that leave for the junk federations everywhere else, federations that represent a few thousand people, barely have a couple decades of existence, federations made with the sole purpose of being an extra vote to buy and sell. I've been hearing people talk about UEFA taking off on their own before blatter stepped aside, as if that were a solution. I fear UEFA- they're already balls deep with the tv money from european club football which is tv's bread and butter. Even though spending on top players keeps going higher and higher (and leagues more and more top heavy), more and more teams are facing bankruptcy, operating at huge losses, and the financial fair play rules platini and UEFA cooked up have been toothless. And platini voted FOR qatar 2022. I was looking for the specifics of platini's own scandals and came across this just posted article which runs it down:

The German government sent a shipment of rocket-propelled grenades to Saudi Arabia in order to secure support for their bid to host the 2006 World Cup, according to the latest sensational claims in the FIFA scandal.
German newspaper Die Zeit say the country's Football Association arranged for then-Chancellor Gerhard Schroder's administration to supply the arms in order to swing the Saudi vote from Morocco to Germany ahead of the vote in 2000.
It helped tip the knife-edge vote in Germany's favor as they defeated South Africa 12-11 in the final round and duly hosted the World Cup finals six years later.
