I have a 2005 Mazda Tribute and is brand new. I have only re-filled the gas tank once. However, after that time, my gas guage is moving down faster than usual. When I bought the car, there were no problems. Should I be worried? What is the problem?

Go siphon your gas back out of your neighbor's car.

Seriously, if the car is that new and you're not comfortable with something, run it into the dealer and make them take a look if you have the time.

You might have a small leak in your fuel line or something. I am no expert with cars, but that is my guess. Or your engine is burning gas faster than what it is suppose to.

The problem about sending it to my car dealer is that its about 1 hour away.

You should be able to take it to any Mazda dealership.

If there are no obvious gas leaks or smells and the car is running fine then there probably isn't much they can or will do. Analog gas gauges can be quirky. Next time you fill up your car, write the mileage down. Then the next time you fill up write down how much gas you used and what the mileage is and calculate your mpg. If it is WAY off the EPA mileage estimate THEN take it to the dealer. EPA estimates for your car are 20/25. They are almost always a little optomistic but you should be within 2-3mpg.

The fuel filter probably isn't connected to the fuel lines properly. Take it back to the dealership and tell them you smell gas when you're driving.

:lol yeah, you may need to look into getting a locking gas cap.

Compare your mileage like CC said. Gas guages are pretty finicky.
